alright this should be the last thing, I added a bunch of SV points that only affect the hitsound volume since it was hard to hear things like the hitnormal during certain parts, which will be problematic since maps aren't usually ranked with one particular hitsound volume. just go ahead and paste this into the [TimingPoints] section in the .osu notepad for both diffs so both diffs can get the same hitsound volume adjustment.

Changed the song genre to Pop

on the website, you set the genre to 'Electronic' but honestly this song works so much more under the 'Pop' genre. there's so much more to the song that's pop-inspired rather be it Electronic, which is why I think it'd be a lot more accurate if it under Pop.

i have no strong preference either way on this, so i'll go with your suggestion and change it to pop

Difficulties modded thru irc: https://pastebin.com/u4pVnbpE
General changes:

  • Fixed some snaps, missnaps, etc.
  • Changed some LN ends to fit with pitch discrepancy
  • Fixed any missing notes
  • Fixed minor consistency issues
  • Generally changed a couple LN patterns to better suite playability or the sound
  • Changed a couple things in hard for relative difficulty sake + RC violation

After consulting with multiple BNs, it would be better to not use capitalization for the artist field and instead using "Wednesday Campanella" which is what the current ranked sets of this artist use (see: https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1014364#mania/2122926 ). This is because the full capitalization seen in some sources (official sources vary for what capitalization they use) is mainly likely used for a logo purposes. The theme is common amongst JP artists for appeal.

Given the progression of the OD/HP is decent from Hard to Shakushaku, I feel like the HP can be a bit meaner somewhat. It attests various things, and it can be a good case study to raise the HP by another .5 for both of them. So you can set the HP for Hard to 8 and Shakushaku to 8.5.

(Hitsound Mod for the Review)

I won't go too in depth with the "why" on each suggestion as I'd be incredibly verbose while doing so. If there's any doubt on why was something suggested, or if you want to refer to any of the suggestions below, I'll be marking them with a number as to easily tag and track them. I'll go in chronological order as well as to not convolute each point. Unless it's specified by either "H" (Hard) or "S" (Shakushaku), the suggestion will be directed towards both difficulties.

(95) 02:26:545 - Add W (H. Same reasoning as (20))
(96) 02:26:083 - Add W (H. Inconsistent, as the same concept is not focusing ONLY on vocals as it has been done in 02:26:776 (146776|0,146891|1,147006|3). Either add that one, or remove 02:26:891 only from Hard difficulty. S however uses the same reasoning as (20))

It seems the biggest issue here is a lack of sounds being represented. The low bass is sometimes being represented, and other times it's being omitted. Moreover, each difficulty has some parts that vary. Sometimes "Shakushaku" will focus on the roll, while "Hard" on the bass as an example.

I've probably missed a bunch despite the revisions done. But the gist of it is that the bass is being heavily underrepresented. Every time that bassy sound kicks in AND the patterning is not focusing on a roll (Such as 00:13:506 (13506|0,13564|1,13622|2,13679|3) for example), a W should be placed.

Only (52) (60) seem to be missing. But hey don't be discouraged, that's only like 1.98%~ so I wouldn't call it "blatant" by any means.

Holy shit I just realized I didn't start after the intro, but a couple seconds after it. I've missed some points because of it, solely my bad on the next ones:

(1.1) 00:04:391 - Add W
(2.1) 00:05:083 - Add W

Just a couple of them, but enough to render the whole concept inconsistent. Again, my apologies. There's a slim chance to find other missing hitsounds. However after 00:06:237 I've checked the level thrice. The possibility is there, but it should clearly be way less probable to find than, you know, a part I literally forgot about?!

Will be updating here everything I find along revising all the changes done!

Currently, both difficulties are using the same HP/OD values (8/7.4 Respectively). While there's not a problem with that, after seeing both of the map's patterns and after getting a better general feel of each difficulty, I've felt like the OD value in Hard should be lowered a bit while the one in "Shakushaku" should be increased.

The thing is, while the maps have their differences, patterning wise they share a lot of similarities conceptually. Leaving some parts aside, the contrast of both difficulties is not big, and maybe sharing the same OD might not increase said contrast.

Again, very subjective, but maybe a 0.5+- difference could better increase this aforementioned contrast.

permalink
DeletedUser_10235296

I kicked around the idea of having the Hard difficulty be a lower OD value to contrast better as well. I played through it a couple times today on OD7.4 and OD7 respectively and the score difference is slight but noticeable. I'll lower the OD to 7 on hard to differentiate.

Looks like a good change. I've noticed the difference myself as well, so that heavy LN focus should be less straining/stressful to properly ace!

Metadata mod. Basically I always do this first as a mod marking. Hope you don't mind

Metadata source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1oxh8Z-2ko
(Some link in the desc seems dead, for example the one that's crediting the video director seemed to now link to a medical pet store...)

Artist Website: http://www.wed-camp.com/#home

Ranked set of the same artist is quite a while back, but could be useful: https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/967776#osu/2025224

A Tower Record (CD/DVD saler in Japan) site on the CD of this single (apparently you can have one song in a CD and sell which is interesting and it's only 100 yen + tax which is like 1.2 USD): https://tower.jp/item/3837221

(edited: Now that I think about it most likely it's digital copy and they just used "CD" instead of digital single here...)

Fun fact - In the artist twitter ( https://twitter.com/wed_camp ), they sometimes tweeted out おは水 (Good Wednesday) on Wednesday lol

----------------
Okay, so let's first fix the artist and title

Artist: 水曜日のカンパネラ

Romanized Artist: WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA
(Actually I am not so sure on this one, it could just be "Wednesday Campanella" cuz that was used in a couple of places, it could even be the romaji version of the artist name, but I would suggest to stick to the YouTube internationalized name of the artist).

Title: シャクシャイン

Romanized Title: Shakushain

-----------------
Okay now onto tags. I will list them out with reason first and then I'll make a copy thingy for you so that you can just use it to replace your current one.

"suiyoubi no kanpanera" <- The artist name in romaji

"ケンモチヒデフミ" <- katakana name of "Kenmochi Hidefumi" (I can't seem to find a kanji version of this somehow. I guess it's either an alias or they just wanna be cool)

"コムアイ KOM_I" <- The stage name for the singer of this song

"demo6 TRNW-0138" <- CD title and CD code

"北海道 hokkaido" <- The whole lyrics is about places in Hokkaido so this seems appropriate to be here

also I think "j pop" should be removed as "jpop" and "j-pop" kinda serves the purpose of that already (it doesn't make it search easier because osu can kinda understand substring of a tag).

So final tag should be
"jpop j-pop dance music electronic EDM japanese suiyoubi no kanpanera ケンモチヒデフミ Kenmochi Hidefumi コムアイ KOM_I demo6 TRNW-0138 北海道 hokkaido"
-----------------

Hopefully I didn't miss anything. Pattern modding will be coming up some time soon!

I'll follow up Ping's Metadata with some extra comments as to work upon his work, as well as to double check its veridicity:

  • Hidefumi's name in Kanji would be "釼持英郁" as mentioned in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wednesday_Campanella#Members. I would personally not use its Katakana version UNLESS an official source has used it to refer to them, as the romanization would already be there to spell the name in different syllables.

  • "TSUBASA RECORDS" alongside its alias "つばさレコーズ" should also be added, as that's the Label from where "demo6" was released.

  • There's another album where Shakushain can be found. Used https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/水曜日のカンパネラ/ジパング-zipangu.p/ (+ Discoggs + Their discography from Wikipedia) as a source. The name of the album is "ジパング" // "Zipangu". Its code would be "TRNW-0150", and for those cunning enough to notice, the Label is the same as the one where "demo6" was released from. However they now go by the name of "Tsubasa Entertainment" (http://tsubasa-ent.co.jp) as that's their parent company.

  • "KOM_I" is just an alias (More of an acronym) for the vocalist/lyricist's actual name. Her actual name goes by "Misaki Koshi".

  • While "j pop" as Ping said wasn't really needed, removing "Pop" as well could've been avoided. At the end of the day it's still pop, just that it's "Japanese Pop". Adding that extra standalone tag will make it easier to find.

Those are all the points I could come up with to further reinforce this pack's metadata.

Should've eased up the tags to be added, my bad:

釼持英郁 つばさレコーズ Tsubasa Entertainment Records ジパング Zipangu TRNW-0150 輿 美咲 Misaki Koshi Pop

Edit: Added "輿 美咲" as its "KOM_I"s real name in Kanji as mentioned in https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B0%B4%E6%9B%9C%E6%97%A5%E3%81%AE%E3%82%AB%E3%83%B3%E3%83%91%E3%83%8D%E3%83%A9 (And spotted by someone who actually knows Japanese, thanks Ping)

Removed the katakana spelling of Hidefumi's name in place of kanji, and added all of the other tag suggestions you've given. Thankyou for the help

ah sorry to reopen this, but I would suggest still keeping "ケンモチヒデフミ"

as RandomeLoL said " I would personally not use its Katakana version UNLESS an official source has used it to refer to them"

Now, in this case the official doesn't mention much about using katakana or the kanji of the name. However, Hidefumi's twitter profile show them using katakana: https://twitter.com/h_kenmochi which means that they prefer this writing as maybe like their "stage name"

So what I suggest is to keep both the kanji and katakana.
