Hello everyone! The General Assistance thread is for members who might be uncertain about something in a beatmap they are not very familiar with. For a better overview of people who might be able to help you with your problem, we created this thread. Feel free to post here with your concerns as well as any discussion. Optional you can directly contact listed people. Additionally, who ever is interested to help, can contact Bakari, IamKwaN and OnosakiHito or post in this thread and we will add you into the list. You are all encouraged to do so if interested, but keep in mind that you should have a decent level of what you are doing!

1. Metadata

If you are unsure if a web site you found is official, ask people with the expetise for these cases. Lately some modders mention download sites as an official source and it makes mappers confused. The reason why websites such as download services and wikipedia can't be an official source is, sometimes labels on them conflict with ones on official websites. In order to prevent future confusion over a metadata issue, do not hesitate to ask the downbelow listed people:

  1. alacat
  2. Bakari
  3. ByBy13
  4. IamKwaN
  5. KSHR (for opinion as native speaker only)
  6. neonat
  7. Okorin
  8. Venix
  9. Wafu
  10. ...

2. Timing

Timing a beatmap correctly is one of the most important factors in a beatmap, especially when it contains more than only one timing section, as the hitcircles are subordinated to it. Therefore, it is important to have an accurate timing and offset in a beatmap. Following members can help in this matter:

  1. _Gezo_
  2. Deif
  3. JBHyperion
  4. pishifat
  5. Raiden
  6. Shiro
  7. Skylish

3. Storyboarding and skinning

These following members are able to assist in any storyboard or skin related issues or to answer any questions you might have concerning them:

  1. _Gezo_
  2. Chaoslitz (skinning and basic storyboarding)
  3. Deif
  4. Pereira006 (basic SB commands)
  5. sheela (basic SB)
  6. Wafu (general SB and codding assistance)
  7. ...

4. Video

Looks like this form is not filled yet. Are you familiar with video-related aspects such as encoding? Then you can ask to be added into this list!

  1. sheela
  2. Wafu
  3. ...

Love this! Sadly Kwan is the only member who we can ask for metadata clarification atm. (? xD

Who ever is interested to help can contact us(Bakari, IamKwaN, me) or post in this thread and we will add you into the list. You are all encouraged to do so if interested. New rubrics (such as timing fore example) can be of course added as well. You just have to mention it.
Okoayu
I can usually find more or less reliable sources concerning metadata. I however do bother KwaN whenever i'm unsure.

I can help with general questions about CODING storyboards, I do not have any experience with the ingame SB Editor. I know a few things regarding optimisation of these things, if necessary.

I can't help you much with skinning-related questions that are above "what skin sets do i need and where do i find these". And lastly idk anything about video encoding so lol.

IDK HOW TO TIME PLS STOP SENDING PPL TO ME WITH THIS STUFF (I get like 3 reqs about this a week and deny every of them :[)
Raiden
I can try to help with timing stuff (so much death metal mapped must have served me for something I guess)

edit: you might as well add people like Shiro pishifat lolcubes Charles445 etc on timing
Yuzeyun
I can provide help in skinning, storyboarding and timing. Additional help may be given for metadata as well.
Chaoslitz
i can help in skinning and basic storyboarding (I guess it is better to seperate this two?)
Tari
I'm free if anybody needs metadata assistance :).
meii18
I can somehow help with metadata stuff mostly. With timing I can help only with finding the BPM :(
neonat
Any metadata related stuff with regards to doujin music like vocaloid, touhou, kancolle, I should be free to help out. I do quite an extensive research on many of these and I also do have my own collection of the actual stuff.

Don't forget that you should have a decent level of what you are doing, as people might have to rely on you!
sheela
I can help with video and basic SB stuff, but not much skinning.
JBHyperion
I can help out with most timing-related stuff, Bonsai would be another good person to ask here.
Deif
I could assist with timing and storyboarding as well. Metadata is mainly googling stuff, so it's not that a big deal (unless Japanese/Chinese runes appear)
IamKwaN
I would like to have you guys' opinion on the Romanised Artist for this map.

The Unicode Artist is every♥ing! or every♥ing! as shown here and here respectively.

The issue is whether we have the Romanised Artist as everying! or every-ing! or something else?

Please discuss, I really need opinions. Thanks!
HappyRocket88
I'm not really sure if it's a good idea to use such as unicode caracters as "♥" is for the Romanised Field. I think every-ing! would fit the translation the best and it would correlate as well with the artist.
Natsu
every-ing! every*ing! ?

@Fycho was searching as well, and where it say that ☆ = * , is that official?

Edit3: Oh I see, didn't know about that o:
Fycho
Objectively speaking, the official provides two type of romanised artist, so both are rankable.

But on a subjective way I think every-ing! fits more, ignoring something on original artist is not a good idea.

every*ing! is a no-go, which alters the artist. It's ♥ not ☆, we only use * to represent ☆.

Edit: @Natsu, don't we use * only for ☆ in osu all the time? Sometimes people misunderstand that * can represent the unromanised symbol and abuse it, so me and KSHR, IamKwaN ever discussed about it internally at past. Japanese authors use * for ☆.
Kibbleru
im no metadata expert but i think every-ing would be better
Monstrata
Yea, every-ing looks the best. Is there an official list of what represents what? Like where does it say the * asterisk replaces ☆? And if we have a substitute for ☆ are there not substitutes for other symbols? ☆ is quite common but so is ♥.

What about using every<3ing
Okoayu
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/207441 has a triangle romanised as * just to add to the discussion. Uh i think every-ing or just leaving this character out would be better lol.
IamKwaN
really weird having triangle romanised as * LOL

I think we have come up to a conclusion. I will tell the mapper to use every-ing! as the Romanised Artist.

Thank you guys!
IamKwaN
I would like to resume the discussion about the same map again.

Is it acceptable to have Shining Sky (Short ver.) as the Title? The creator told me they use this as reference. The music video thingy really bothers me so I would like to have your opinions.

Thank you once again! :P
Fycho
The Music Video(Short ver.) is cutted by the official from the full version and has the (Short ver.) added to it, and the map's mp3 is from the PV, it should be fine in my opinion.

Like the mapper mapped the PV version not the TV OP version(compared it and found their beats on the end are different...)
IamKwaN
Should the Title be Shining Sky Music Video (Short ver.) then?
DakeDekaane
「Shining Sky」Music Video(Short ver.)

This rather be interpreted as a music video of the short version of the song "Shining Sky". Whether it can be used as "Shining Sky (Short ver.)" is still debatable. I'd go with just "Shining Sky".
KSHR
Dake's post is exactly what I thought.
DVD in which the full version of the music video is recorded have been released as the limited edition privilege. The video that the mapper refered was uploaded to advertise it, so it's not the actual short version of the song. Actually the short version of the song is not recorded in any CDs.
Voting for Shining Sky.
Wafu

DakeDekaane wrote:

Exactly. In addition, vast majority of things that are in 「」 are usually just to distinguish titles from regular text.

hey little help of metadata my map World of Wandag - Winky Face.
the artist on youtube and soundcloud is WorldofWandag without space but in CD on steam you can downlodad OST free http://store.steampowered.com/app/426000/.

I have my last rank map World of Wandag - HuniePop Theme because that lanturn told me follow CD cuz is official, but this map World of Wandag - Winky Face what I should follow Soundcloud or CD ?

thank in advance
meii18
I think you have to follow the CD since the CD is the proof of the official metadata as i see.i would go for World Of Wandag since on soundcloud and youtube it's not fully official like the CD.
Monstrata
CD. If you have an official source, you should follow it. Even if another official source says something different, that just means both interpretations would be acceptable.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
Wafu
Well, both Soundcloud and Youtube are official. They also have a website, where they use both World of Wandag and WorldofWandag, so you can choose. I wouldn't use Steam as a reference, because there are often differencies between languages and artists usually don't have any access to that, developers do and in this case, I'd consider artist as a more valuable proof than developers of the game, who might have done a mistake here. This often happens on anime websites, which are sometimes not in correspondence with anime's soundtrack which is on artist's website.

You can pick any, but Steam is not 100% official from artist's side.
Pereira006
thank guys, I would prefer use World of Wandag for follow CD, and will add tag WorldofWandag.

Thank again, guys.
HappyRocket88
Greetings! I hope you're having a great time. I wanted to post here to see if is possible to get a metadata clarification of this map since it is currently bubbled.

This is the map: https://osu.ppy.sh/b/956099

We're at some point discussing the correct metadata of the song but we couldn't get into agreement due to I'm unsure of the correct Japanese written way of Sakura no Zenya.

Here I list the sources he used for it:
  1. http://utaite.wikia.com/wiki/Kano
  2. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm19819855
So, should the correct metadata go like this?
  1. Artist: 鹿乃
  2. Romanised Artist: Kano
  3. Title: サクラノ前夜
  4. Romanised Title: Sakura no Zenya
  5. Source: すきなの。
  1. l Clarification. Is this the correct translation into kanji?
  2. l Explanation. Is it necessary to put the album name on the source?

Thank you very much! Any further opinion regarding this metadata would be awesome! Have a nice day!
Okoayu
sources are for series/games/movies WHATEVER popularised the song so an album doesn't belong there, it's used for games and tv series such as anime where songs originate from.
Yuii-
I would say there's no source. Although I would add some tags as for the album: "Sukinano." and "すきなの。"

As for the title you provided, it's fine. Found another link here

Couldn't find too much on her official website, though.
Seijiro
My question is rather if the romanized version is the correct one.
サクラノ is a word by itself: "sakurano" and not "sakura no" because you have to de-attach that "no" only if it's written as の.

In this case tho, the "no" part is written with katakana (japanese alphabet for foreign words) therefore it's part of the word and not a particle (as the one I wrote above)

Please do note I'm not a mothertongue in japanese so I may be wrong. You should ask a japanese person for the correct translation imo.
IamKwaN
Question guys!

How do we romanise 「テノヒラ」? My major concern is the quotation mark.

Does "Tenohira" make any sense?

Thanks :P

btw, Sakura no Zenya makes more sense than Sakurano Zenya to me, considering the lyrics. And it's probably common to use katakana as song title even though it is not a foreign word.
Sonnyc
Seems the quotation is a different usage with p/5255761 ?
Not sure where that source is.

If the quotation is a must, using " seems rational enough for me.
IamKwaN
yea different, here is the map https://osu.ppy.sh/s/444288

References that I find:
http://puu.sh/pF9QP/4d2aadfcb7.jpg from http://hero-izm.com/disc.html
http://puu.sh/pF9TP/c04193c1c9.jpg from Opening film of the Anime
http://puu.sh/pFa0j/d188dad8ca.png from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtOH-e4zl38

Seems this band loves to include quotation marks in the titles of their songs .. weird
but sometimes they don't include them, so i am quite sure they are part of the title for this song
IamKwaN
Hello, it's me again.

Map: https://osu.ppy.sh/s/475646

It's a song from the special CD of Hanayamata BD Box Volume 1 and my doubt is regarding the Artist. Downloading the Box scans and searching on the web, nothing official could be found. The only information I found related to the matter is the .cue file. Does anyone have any idea what it is and whether it is suitable / justifiable to use 関谷なる(上田 麗奈)as the Unicode Artist?

If no, how about using the same Artist as this map - https://osu.ppy.sh/s/343628 ?

Thanks.
Sonnyc
It was pretty hard to found information regarding that ;w;
If that is the only related information that could be found, wouldn't it be fine to use? 上田 麗奈 did the character voice of 関谷なる anyways, so nothing seems to be inaccurate by using that.

hi! about source of Touhou/beatmania IIDX map.

I have been seen the different source recently.

beatmania IIDX
DJ Noriken - Elektrick U-Phoria(Extended Mix)
Source : beatmania IIDX 21 SPADA

Eagle - Icarus (Extended)
Source : beatmania IIDX (tag : beatmaniaiidx 15th)

USAO - Dynamite (Extended Mix)
Source : beatmania IIDX 23 copula

USAO - Night sky
Source : beatmania IIDX 22 PENDUAL

Camellia - Routing
Source : beatmania IIDX (tag : 23 copula 22 pendual)

Touhou
Komiya Mao - (can you) understand me?
Source : 東方輝針城 〜 Double Dealing Character.

Komiya Mao - (can you) understand me?
Source : 東方輝針城 〜 Double Dealing Character.

Yuuhei Satellite (Arranged: Iceon) feat. senya - Yuudachi, Kimi to Kakurega
Source : 東方Project

I think we should unify these. In my opinion, It's better to use a game name on source instead a series name because It's a further information. I would like to hear opinions series name or game name :)
Okoayu
as the host of https://osu.ppy.sh/s/409898 :

The reason I took the full game name including the weird double-byte spaces next to smaller ones is simple: It's a more accurate description of which game the song relates to. The Touhou series is a lot of games, so while slapping 東方Project on all of them may look more simple it's by no means telling you a lot. And since I want to be accurate about where stuff is from I'd be for being as accurate as possible in sources.
Chaoslitz
Considering the huge amount of songs in the same game, I think it is better to be more specific to clarify each series so that players do not need to search for a music under the whole general source as well as for a more accurate metadata

I must entirely disagree. Using franchise name is an inaccurate information and should be avoided where possible. We also use exact name for anime for example, why would we do it differently for games?

Also, you are using "series" and "game" wrong. Game is the concrete one and series can be a franchise. You're maybe mixing it up with TV series, where one series is for example one anime.

Anyway, what's the most important is that source, and any other metadata should be accurate because usually, 1st game of a franchise is called the same as the franchise and sometimes, the games in the franchise are changing a lot - even when it comes to music. For example Devil May Cry. The 1st and the 2nd game had quite "okay" soundtrack. 3rd and 4th had a brilliant soundtrack because they swapped some composers, who together did absolutely awesome job. However, the newest game, DmC: Devil May Cry, kicked them off completely and hired Noisia who devastated it into unlistenable statement. This isn't probably a problem of 東方Project, because ZUN is probably never getting kicked off his own one-man company. But think about it this way - the "further information" avoids conflict if the 1st game's name is same as the franchise and also avoids mixing up games that could become a lot different (mostly from musical, but also any other side).
Okoayu
I'm confused about the point you're making Wafu. alacat was for using as accurate metadata as possible (so linking an accurate game title instead of the whole franchise) and you say you entirely disagree and then explain how being as accurate as possible should be done, which is basically agreeing with alacat?
Wafu
Oh, then didn't alacat word it incorrectly? He stated "I think we should unify these.", which means to make it one or merge it together. For that reason, I thought he just missused "series" and "game" - that's more likely to swap if you use both in one sentence than misusing "unify". Based on the first sentence, I thought alacat considered "further information" as a useless information and that people will likely search for the whole franchise than certain game, I just thought he swapped these two because of the misuse of "unify". In that case, I agree with him.

Edit: Nevermind, you were talking about sources and then said that you want to "unify these", you confused me. If you were for using the accurate name of the game, then I agree.
Electoz
Hi!

Official site: http://toneworks.product.co.jp/ginharu/music.html
Metadata provided from mapper: p/5488542
There's other reliable sources(but can't be used directly as a reference) like vgmdb and vndb which their titles are conflicting each other.
Also, I found the romanised title(for the visual novel title, not the song) on http://toneworks.product.co.jp/ginharu/ ... op/top.png so does that mean can we use GINIRO-HARUKA as the romanised title for the song? Since the song title and the visual novel title are the same.
My question is, should the romanised title be "Gin'iro, Haruka" or "Giniro, Haruka" or "GINIRO-HARUKA"?
Sorry if my wordings are a bit complicated, thanks in advance!
