- 01:55:675 - probably use whistle S:C78? that sounds more similar with bgm rather than soft finish when there is no cymbal at this time

00:37:975 (2) - maybe remove this? this feels random imo because it breaks consistency with 00:26:875 (1,2,3,4) -
00:32:875 (2,3,1) - yeah i know but why not keep use 1,7x spacing like 01:50:275 (2,1) - for consistency i mean

Spoke to some people about CS on Rain, gonna meet in the middle and try 4.5. Waiting for AZ and Wild to respond on their diffs and then will update all together.

Edit: Fixed the hitsound on spinner end, jumps on Rain intro feel fine to me though.

adding an extra note between (4,1). This makes it consistent. I want that note because it represents a new section.

Fixed up some things on my part, listed below as to make sure all parties know what has happened:

00:08:500 (3) - Moved this a bit to the right, to make it a more curved movement and also to fit the decreasing pitch of vocals better.
00:17:875 (2) - Moved this a bit to the the right, the backforth with antiflow distance was a bit too strong here, so decided to make it the same as the previous one.
00:35:275 (1) - Moved this a bit too the left, distancing felt a little too strong to me.
00:38:500 (3) - Same as first point.
01:12:475 (1) - Moved a bit to the right to add some extra emphasis to the change in section, not much though.
01:13:075 (2) - Moved this a bit to the right as the jump to 3 was a bit too hard as it was.

Gave this a quick play and noticed in the rain that 00:23:125 (7,1) - is a pretty edgy dash, just 8 units away from a hyper. Looks like similar parts of the song use a distance snap much closer to 3x rather than the almost 4x here so I doubt this is intentional ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

About consistency you are right and I'm agree that reducing the distance could be a good solution, in the other hand this is totally playable, (tbh I didn't notice at playing cause I like this kind of jumps and I dind't think that it was a problem xd) anyways there is almost 0.20x of distance to get the hyper, enough for the top diff considering the BPM imo, but JBH has the last decision, is not a huge change so it can be requalified easy. Also as I said before I was waiting 4.6 of CS to get the Insane Icon but well, it's only my taste >.<

Personally I'm alright with this from a playing perspective, since the movement (6,7,1) is played as a streamed dash anyway. But yeah, from a nagging consistency perspective, (6,7,1) should probably be equally spaced with ~ 3.0x DS as Sorcerer suggested. I've asked the other QATs to give an opinion, if they feel it's worth DQing over I'll be fine with that, we should be able to get it fixed up real quick.

And no, I'm not making the Rain CS4.6 just to get a red I icon xD

I've noticed some things in this mapset, so hopefully you can enlighten me as to your design choices or fix them appropriately while I point them out!

General

Difficulty settings spread issue

  • The difficulty settings in the mapset pose a real question mark to me when I first opened the editor. From odd CS choices with an irregular spread (2.5 -> 3 -> 3.8 -> 4.5) to difficulties using the same HP (Cup and Salad both use HP4), it seems like certain things could be made to be more linear rather than erratic. At the very least, the circle size is an issue that I feel needs to be addressed.

Design choices

  • To start, the SV on this difficulty is really low. Paired with a low AR setting and low BPM, the difficulty seems very squished in many places and that could potentially hinder readability at a lower level. When all 3 ends of a repeat slider can be caught with only a 1 ms tap of the left or right key, there's an inherent problem with the difficulty itself. Considering Wild's Salad is 1.8 SV, something like 1.5 would do quite nicely.
Additional Modding
  1. 00:02:275 (2,1) - Some additional emphasis could be placed on 00:02:875 (1) - here. Not a ton, but maybe moving 00:02:875 (1) - to x:352 would be nice. These kinds of low bass sounds at the beginning could use similar treatment.
  2. I'm actually quite concerned with the usage of 1/1 in this diff while undervaluing the 1/2 or 1/4. For example, not cutting the repeat and making a circle at 00:03:925 - is a weird choice, considering that since players don't need to click in ctb, there's no issue with withholding various rhythms (while used sparingly and appropriately).
  3. Nitpicky, but I'd make 00:28:075 (3,4) - a slider so that way it feels like 00:28:225 - is still represented by droplets. That's what I do in lower difficulties,
    anyways.
  4. The kiais pose a problem mostly because you use the same distances outside of the kiai as you do inside of it. I think increasing note distance from 1.0x to 1.2x would give it the variation it needs.
  5. Following vocals but skipping 00:42:925 - ? 00:42:175 (2) - 1 circle + 3/4 slider maybe (plus a circle on 00:43:075 - ?)
  6. 01:10:675 (2) - the one time where there's actually a 1/2 sound to represent and you skip it :<
  7. 01:12:475 (1) - whistle + finish but no added distance
  8. 01:14:275 (3) - x272 creates a bit more movement here rather than having to stand still and wait for the fruit to fall.

Collab Rain

Placement issues

  • From a design perspective this difficulty is a little weird. Of course, it's a collab, so the two mappers will map it differently, but the biggest issue is that the jumps feel VERY overwhelming in places where they shouldn't, and the exact opposite in places where they should.
  1. 00:01:075 (2,3) - , 00:03:475 (2,3) - 2.82x is quite high for such a soft section, even moreso since it's the softest section and right at the beginning of the map. Reducing these to somewhere around 2.3-2.5x felt much nicer to me and far more manageable.
  2. 00:03:925 (3) - Curve could definitely be improved. Right now, there's too much upwards motion, and not enough LR movement. Try something that looks more like this
  3. 00:19:075 (4) - skips a VERY important 1/4 note that's hit on every single other difficulty.
  4. 00:23:125 (7,1) - The distance feels like it was meant to be a hyperdash but is mistakenly made to not be one. If this is unintentional, increase to a hyperdash, if not, then the distance should definitely be reduced.
  5. 00:33:175 (3,4,5,1) - Is this really appropriate for a rain difficulty? The sounds are quite soft bar the strong bass drop on 00:34:075 (1) - . Normal dashes would have sufficed quite fine.
  6. 00:43:075 (4,1) - Even though the distance is fine, it could definitely take some people by surprise on the first run. Lowering it a bit would be really nice for players who are playing rain difficulties for the first time.
  7. 01:17:275 (1,2) - Held vocal but 1/4 + 3/4? Overmap or ?
  8. 01:22:075 (1,2,3,4) - Now it's inconsistent with the previous because you aren't following the vocals..
  9. 01:26:875 (1,2) - etc etc etc
  10. 01:31:675 (1,2) - Feels a bit cramped, could definitely use a small dash in between here maybe

Unconventional CS choices are what I do, there's a clear progression in terms of "increasing with difficulty", but there's no requirement for this scale to be perfectly linear and even. This would be the case even if there weren't Guest Difficulties with an added degree of leniency. I don't see anything "erratic" about the CS scale and (aside from my admittedly questionable decision to try CS5 on the Rain, which has been reversed) the difficulties were mapped to accommodate the settings selected for them.

I will ask AZ to consider the HP drain on his difficulty, however.

Collab Rain

  4. 00:23:125 (7,1) - The distance feels like it was meant to be a hyperdash but is mistakenly made to not be one. If this is unintentional, increase to a hyperdash, if not, then the distance should definitely be reduced. Was pointed out by Sorcerer before, as far as I can tell, 00:22:825 (6,7,1) - is intended to be a streamed dash, since the sounds are more similar than 00:22:525 (4,5,6) - for example. The kiai section alternates between these hypers and streamed dash patterns to follow the two different vocal intensities, so I made the spacing equal between these
  5. 00:33:175 (3,4,5,1) - Is this really appropriate for a rain difficulty? The sounds are quite soft bar the strong bass drop on 00:34:075 (1) - . Normal dashes would have sufficed quite fine. Considering the low BPM I don't think it's wholly inappropriate, but it is a bit of a weird difficulty spike, and I used normal dashes in the later kiai section, so made this one a pair of normal dashes also
  6. 00:43:075 (4,1) - Even though the distance is fine, it could definitely take some people by surprise on the first run. Lowering it a bit would be really nice for players who are playing rain difficulties for the first time. Moved 00:43:075 (4,1,2,3,4) - closer to each other, since was a bit uncomfortable also
  7. 01:17:275 (1,2) - Held vocal but 1/4 + 3/4? Overmap or ? Synth pitch decreases on 01:17:425 - which is what I'm following here
  8. 01:22:075 (1,2,3,4) - Now it's inconsistent with the previous because you aren't following the vocals. Alternating between held synth and vibrating synth for variety
  9. 01:26:875 (1,2) - etc etc etc ^ As above
  10. 01:31:675 (1,2) - Feels a bit cramped, could definitely use a small dash in between here maybe Added a small dash and made 01:31:975 (2) - face left instead

Design choices

  • To start, the SV on this difficulty is really low. Paired with a low AR setting and low BPM, the difficulty seems very squished in many places and that could potentially hinder readability at a lower level. When all 3 ends of a repeat slider can be caught with only a 1 ms tap of the left or right key, there's an inherent problem with the difficulty itself. Considering Wild's Salad is 1.8 SV, something like 1.5 would do quite nicely.
I think that while it is relatively low, it gives me more freedom to play around with patterns and also makes for spacing variety.

Additional Modding
  1. 00:02:275 (2,1) - Some additional emphasis could be placed on 00:02:875 (1) - here. Not a ton, but maybe moving 00:02:875 (1) - to x:352 would be nice. These kinds of low bass sounds at the beginning could use similar treatment. ok.
  2. I'm actually quite concerned with the usage of 1/1 in this diff while undervaluing the 1/2 or 1/4. For example, not cutting the repeat and making a circle at 00:03:925 - is a weird choice, considering that since players don't need to click in ctb, there's no issue with withholding various rhythms (while used sparingly and appropriately). 00:02:275 (2) isn't following exactly anything strong enough--so that's why it's specifically separated. In general, I wanted to simplify things a bunch, but i'll list the changes i made at the bottom to tailor some more nuances, specifically in the kiais.
  3. The kiais pose a problem mostly because you use the same distances outside of the kiai as you do inside of it. I think increasing note distance from 1.0x to 1.2x would give it the variation it needs.I think that it's fine being relatively uniform--but as I stated earlier, I'll make some changes.
  4. Nitpicky, but I'd make 00:28:075 (3,4) - a slider so that way it feels like 00:28:225 - is still represented by droplets. That's what I do in lower difficulties,
    anyways. I like it like the 3 hitcircles now because i think it follows the drums better this way.
  5. Following vocals but skipping 00:42:925 - ? 00:42:175 (2) - 1 circle + 3/4 slider maybe (plus a circle on 00:43:075 - ?) it's a little dense for something without any background music or percussion in it.
  6. 01:10:675 (2) - the one time where there's actually a 1/2 sound to represent and you skip it :< Yeah sure, made it 1/2 slider and a hitcircle.
  7. 01:12:475 (1) - whistle + finish but no added distance ok, 1.67x.
  8. 01:14:275 (3) - x272 creates a bit more movement here rather than having to stand still and wait for the fruit to fall. yeah, good idea.

I don't think the SV being low is a bad thing, I just think it should be a bit higher than what it is. My main issue with the low SV is the slider formation, there's almost no movement in them, which is why I recommended 1.5SV as a potential solution. Hopefully you can reconsider it though

As for the non-generic CS spread, I wish the bottom 2 diffs would follow the same formula of having higher-than-normal CS settings. I was thinking maybe 3 -> 3.4 -> 3.8 -> 4.5?
