It's probably a pointless idea since I normally just search the song that I want to play or just the middle scroll.
But some people do not have the scrolling button (tablet players or mouses without it)... Dragging the list can be a hassle.
So why not add a spin to scroll feature?

It's really simple, the osu logo in the middle of the beatmap list can serve as the spinner, the logo itself could also spin while you scroll.
Spinning clockwise would scroll down the list while counterclockwise would scroll up.
Now I can predict a few flaws with this concept while there are players who use the keyboard combination to play and spin in their own preference.

These flaws could easily be fixed with the following:
1. Enable/Disable Spin2Scroll (making #2 defaulted if enabled)
2. Have the search clicked before searching (for players who use the keyboard to play, also enablable and disablable)
3. Spin2Scroll inversability (to suit player preference)

This could also make players practice their spin if you think about it, just apply the same mechanics from the in-game spinner.

just an FYi, you can also click and drag during the song select

Looks like you didn't read the whole thing...

When you have so many maps it's tedious to scroll like that, use search.

Probably for you, but it can practice your spinning if the spinning mechanics from in-game are implemented.

I dont know, but spinning looks more tedious and tiring than click and drag to me.

Well, right-click?

Also, you probably wouldn't get that much practice from it, but that might just be me.

You could just disable the spinning, it's completely optional.

I play have a mouse with a broken wheel. My initial solution was to use Page Up/Down and Arrow Up/Down, like I do when playing the keyboard mode. Eventually, I went and made the Back/Forth buttons on that mouse into Wheel Up/Down. Spinning is a cute idea, but I'm not overly fond of mouse gestures, because I'm always triggering them when I don't want to, so I'd probably just turn it off.

This would be annoying because when you'll make circles with your cursor (also by not paying attention) it will scroll down or up. :/
