I apologize in advance for the links, I’m writing this on mobile and I’m not sure how to add links to text yet. :)

So I recently spent ages mapping a song that’s audio file was transferred from another map of the same song (I’m not quite sure if this counts as stealing since I didn’t copy the actual map or background, and only used the song. Song credit goes to Gero: https://osu.ppy.sh/users/1467715, https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/480765#osu/1169865).

I finished a little while ago, but when I went to upload the map, an error message appeared saying I couldn’t upload the beatmap because it wasn’t mine. The message read “The beatmap you’re trying to upload isn’t yours!” Is this because the song isn’t my .mp3 file, or is there another problem? And does using someone else’s song file count as stealing?

I’ve already read guides by VeilStar-(https://osu.ppy.sh/users/4255720)
and Venix-
(https://osu.ppy.sh/users/5999631)

I tried both of their fixes, and neither of them worked. So now I’m stumped.

Should I find a different method of getting the .mp3 for the song, and replace the file, or is there a different solution? If anyone has any information on this, please help! Thank you so much! :)

Upload your map to an external file hoster and link it here so we can look into the specifics.

The thread you linked explicitly says that if it doesn't work, recreate the mapset and copy paste timings and objects.

Oof. I didn’t see that part.

Edit: aight I tried exporting, renaming, editing, renaming once again, and re-importing the mapset, and it’s still not letting me upload the map. ):

To be fair I never actually read that forum thread until the end.

If nothing actually works, pretty sure this should fix it :
  1. Reimport the mp3 under a different name. The map folder is first based around the name of the mp3, so rename it to avoid conflicts with existing one (I think, never actually tried xd)
  2. Create a new difficulty and sets all metadata and settings in this new mapset
  3. Open the old and new .osu files
  4. Copy and paste the entire [TimingPoints] and [HitObjects] sections from the old into the new. You can also copy [Editor] to keep bookmarks or [Difficulty] instead of setting them from song setup
  5. Reload the new mapset by either reentering the editor or by ctrl+l if you are already in editor
  6. You've now duplicated the old mapset with a completly new one from scratch. You may now delete the old mapset

And if this still say you didn't created the map, contact the support, there is a issue with your account...
