A lot of newer players don't know about the other game modes when starting out, because the game never really tells you that there are other game modes in the first place. The ones that do know about the other game modes, almost always don't know about mode-specific maps and play converts instead, which are generally low-quality. This causes a lot of newer players to not give the other modes a proper chance.
A solution to both of these problems would be tutorials for these game modes, which explain the controls and the mechanics of the game modes, similar to the osu!standard tutorial. The tutorials should also mention the difference between converts and mode-specific maps, and that you should probably not play converts (catch is kind of an exception in this regard, but it should still get mentioned).
