Problem details: Blackscreen when entering Editor. Happens when choosing Edit from main menu as well as going into Editor from song selection. Can be somewhat circumvented by using windowed method as stated in https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/313245. However, the same blackscreen is given when first entering this mode. Blackscreen persists until restart.

Windowed mode works fine after restart. No blackscreen when switching from windowed to fullscreen. Editor works fine in windowed mode. Music can still be heard during blackscreen, and full control of the game is still available (e.g. I can hear the cursor moving over buttons, exiting via hitting Esc Esc 1, etc.). Happens in Stable, Beta, and CE. Issue was not present previously.

What's extremely bizarre is that I can still see the gameplay when capturing with OBS (at most points), so I'm not even able to capture a proper video of the issue. It's simply the display that won't show it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

osu! version: Beta 20190409.1

I have the exact same issue that you have, probably because an osu update or something. It happens only in the latest nvidia drivers since an older version didn't pop up this problem. If you want, you can uninstall the drivers you currently have and install older drivers, this should get you using osu normally. The issue comes if you need a program that requires drivers updated (Like adobe Premiere or After Effects). Hoping that someone answers this issue quickly here, or in my reddit post.
Edit: Do you use a double monitor setup? Because whenever I deactivate my second monitor the bug goes away too.

I'm not entirely sure how you can say in one sentence that an osu! update broke something, and then immediately after point out the update that actually seemed to break stuff (i.e. the nvidia driver update)...

Still trying to figure out what they changed by the way. So if you have multiple monitors to test on (I don't), by all means, please fiddle around with some of the multiple display settings/Gsync settings that seemed to change in the latest drivers. Those are the two main things I noticed in the latest drivers that seem to have the potential to break things.

I stated that maybe it was the osu update because there was an update recently and not long after that the issue happened, that's why the "or something" at the end, I am not sure what is causing the issue, sorry if it sounded I was blaming the game.
Already tested a few things, I plugged my second monitor that has a lower resolution (1360x768) than my main one (1920x1080) and the issue did not happen, my main monitor was not plugged. After that, I switched what monitor used the main display, using the lower resolution as the main display, the issue did not appear. After switching back the main display to the higher resolution monitor, the issue appeared again. I switched what port the monitors used in the graphic card, the issue remained. After doing some more testing, I can pinpoint what causes the issue: If the resolution in osu is set to something higher than 1366x768 on the main display, having 2 monitors set up using full screen to run the game, the blackscreen will pop up. The issue will not appear if you run the game borderless, but if you use letterboxing at something higher than 1366x768, the blackscreen appears. I changed my desktop resolution to something lower than 1920x1080, but the issue keeps going on and only stops when you get to 1366x768. After doing all of this, I still had to disable my second monitor since I still don't know what settings to change in my nvidia control panel after I did all of this :( I would have to get someone to help me troubleshoot the drivers. Still, going to my first point in this response: I cannot say it for certain, but I think I used the editor before the osu update came in and the issue started to appear, and still stand by what I say that I'm not sure even what's going on with the drivers vs. the game, I'm not sure if it was the update of the game or the nvidia driver, and I'm not poiting fingers, I just want some help and getting the issue solved :( I could rollback the drivers yes, but I also mentioned how After Effects pops a window literally saying how it may not work properly unless the latest drivers are installed, and I'm using the software daily too. Hopefully this serves as a decent response to troubleshoot what's going on, and if the drivers are at fault, just point me to a guide that helps me solve this.

What are the two monitors that you are using?

I'm using a BenQ GW2270 22' (1920x1080) and a really old Samsung Syncmaster 633NW 15.6' (1360x768)

Hmm, I hadn't tried messing around with the dual monitor settings yet. I did attempt to move osu! over to my second monitor, however, but it wasn't framed correctly on the second monitor and the blackscreen issue still persisted after I had switched it over. I''l see if I can find a suitable workaround soon. I think the issue may have started sometime after I updated my Nvidia drivers, too.

Just for reference I use a Dell S2716DGb 27" (2560x1440) and an ASUS VH222H 21.5" (1920x1080), so completely different from Azuren.

Fwiw, users have been experiencing issues with the latest Nvidia drivers when it comes to dual monitor setups, not with just the editor.

The editor forces Borderless Windowed so that's probably why the issue only rears its head when you try to access the editor.

Hopefully Nvidia will fix whatever is causing this in future updates, or else an osu! side fix may have to be developed. But I wouldn't bank on it.

I see, well hopefully Nvidia doesn't take too long to fix this issue. Thanks for all the support!

Alright, so sorry to necro my post, but I have solved the issue for myself so I thought I'd share what fixed it for me.

Funnily enough, I went to clear out all display drivers I had using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) for a completely separate reason. Once that had completed, I went to Nvidia's site directly to download the latest driver package and installed them with the clean installation option checked. Since then, I have had no issues with Editor, switching to Windowed Mode, etc. It all works as expected (thought I do feel a bit silly for not remembering to try it that way earlier).

I hope this solution fixes the issue for anyone else having this problem!
