When I was very little, my brother used to watch lots of Shounen anime on TV... it was very natural for me to love anime

I loved anime until a point where I got into high school, then I shunned all anime and Japanese related stuff. This lasted one or two years. This period of time actually comes into my osu! career, some oldies here may recognize the times where I was like this ^^;

But now, I stopped trying to be someone different and accepting myself~ I love anime and touhou and everything Japanese

My story:

It's easier to get influenced if you grew up in the Mecca of otaku culture
Harp Note
When I was young, watching TV was one of things I liked the most, anime was a part of it, but I only could watch the typical anime series, but when I finally had access to internet I can say I had become an otaku D:
birra
cardcaptor sakura changed my life when i was a kid to be an otaku. though, i'm not thatkindof-otaku
mercedes2345
My friend introduced me to vocaloid, then crunchyroll.com and written a list of animes I should watch :)

I'm glad I became an otaku, Osu!, anime and hatsune miku are my best friends now.

Screw real life friends. lol. :)

lol then he's not likely to be posting here in the first place. Besides, Japanese "countryside" is a lot more advanced than you think.

A lot of mangaka are from the countryside too. Fujiko Fujio included.

EDIT: Fixed broken quote box

You're right, sir "yafutsufa" that not everyone grew up in japan is an otaku. Oinari explained it all, like Oinari said it's easier to get influenced when you grew up in japan. By the way, I'm not a "Sir".
pokemew1
My sister. ^w^ She was always watching Sailor Moon, Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2 so it just kind of rubbed off.
I didn't get extremely into anime until I got my first computer though ><
It's all kinda fuzzy on where I became a huge fan, but somewhere along those lines.
Now i'm super socially awkward and the internet is my safe haven! :D (I wouldn't have it any other way. >w>)
~Also taking Japanese classes :3~
clashe_old
my first anime was pokemon when I was in kindergarten, but I didn't really know what "anime" was at the time. my first manga was cardcaptor sakura in elementary school which I picked up by chance in the bookstore, and although my tastes have branched out a lot since then I still love CLAMP <3

Simple. I used to be part of this one gaming forum which provided ROMs for the good old Nintendo Gameboys and DS, then I noticed a certain someone having a sig of Shana from Shakugan no Shana.

I thought to myself, "Hey, this girl looks cute. Wonder where she's from?" So I asked, got my answer and BAM! I somehow got hooked onto anime that way.

Yeah, nothing special. Pretty mediocre. =\

My brother first started it.

I was in first grade when I first watched Onegai Teacher. I never understood anything because the stuff were in Japanese. I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT THAT KEI HAD CANCER, NOT STANDSTILLS. (I even did that to Air the Movie, concluding that Misuzu had cancer as well.) HOW LAME OF ME.

I only understood it when I was in fourth grade and realized how kinda ecchi (well it isn't too much but still...) it is.

And so I had seatmates in fourth grade who were addicted to Special A.

And it evolved to the degree that I am now.
Navizel
childhood. used to watch Dragon Ball, Detective Conan, Slam Dunk and other anime back then.

My elder sister got me into manga and anime when I was 8. But as I turned 13, I sold all my mangas in order to buy a new computer, which was like the worst choice of my life, so I stopped being an otaku (if you can even call it that).
Then, some months ago, I got to know with a person who became my best friend now. She made me start watching anime again and now I'm not doing anything else in my life apart from that. :|
OzzyOzrock
watching lucky star

what
Issei Hyoudou_old
It all started with Toonami around 2003 with Pokémon, Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X), Dragon Ball Z... And then I was in hiatus until I discovered Lucky Star, then I decided to be an otaku just like Konata Izumi; then I discovered things like Vocaloid, Nico Nico Douga, manga, visual novels, light novels, I searched for more and more animes and made a list of them... And welcome to Weeabooland... And now ''osu!''
KinkiN
I already read mangas and watch animes since i was child. but around 2 years ago, my friend gave me Angel Beats! anime and told me to try watching it. And that was the best series that i've ever watch , even no TV shows nor TV Dramas that i've watched are better than Angel Beats! That's why now i have a high interest in anime and manga , thus becoming an otaku :D
[Maid] NekoRyo
i accidently founded a story called "K-ON" on a facebook page...i was quite active at that page..but i didn't realize that it was a story ..and so.. tried to watch it...and starting from that day...i watch more and more anime x3 and thus..i'm become an otaku :3
Dumie
i got mindf**ked by the visual novel Steins;Gate, then i started watching like a whole bunch of other series....
Kanade4Life
It all started when I'm watching Dora The Explorer Black Cat from Animax...
I was so happy but everything changed when the fire nation attack my Dad cut down a few channels including Animax and so I started downloading them and collecting and before I know it I already collecting other stuff like mangas, and etc.

Because I watch Lucky Star back in 2010 due to curiousness, and then the anime reminds my my high school life and I play PS2 games with my friends during that time. It brought back my interest to anime after 4 years of forgetting anime.

Well, one night, I couldn't sleep because of diarrhea problems, and I didn't want to wake my parents up. Couldn't go to the bathroom because of the same reason. No matter how many methods of sleep I tried, I couldn't go to sleep. Hours before dawn, I was like "screw it, might as well watch my favorite shows". I turned on the TV, but none of my favorite shows were on. Before I turned it off, I came across Adult Swim and it just so happens that it was showing Inuyasha at the moment. The second I saw it, I was intrigued because 1) the art style and 2) Inuyasha's dog ears. I watched the entire episode that night and I found myself watching more and more of it.

Weeks, maybe even months later (I can't remember for the life of me), I came across the word anime. Once I understood the term, I understood what Inuyasha was and I wanted to watch more of this "anime" that I was newly introduced to at the time.
