none
It surely helps as i found this out after a long time
I know your post about disabling v-synch and so on via your (at least your posted program)
Buit it was always strange and unusable, having also some artifacts on the screen... and so on

Luckily i found this command at some el captain forums (works btw for both 10.10 and 10.11)
- you will need xquartz already installed!

Open Terminal:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.owserver Compositor -dict deferredUpdates 0
sudo killall Finder

For enabling it (it will disable some part of the implemented v-synch) but not all so the system and graphics aren't unstable ... so giving you a FPS boost and holding your fps at 120 ... and not like beyond some time (some times 70 some times 110 and so on ~ wich maked mania playing pretty impossible)

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.owserver Compositor -dict deferredUpdates 1
sudo killall Finder
- Is for reenabling all functions

~ you must NOT reboot , it will be applied automatically after restarting Finder :)

PS:
Sry but i left osu a long time ago, just because of this annoying unstable wine "releases" and about 6 months of trying to get this freaking port stable >_>
~ so i'm changing to Malody!
But this should help all OS X Gamers, because it works also on other games, and gives you a overall FPS boost and stability

hmm, peppy said that fallback wasn't supported anymore, so i guess our only hope is for a new mac client or for someone to make a wrapper for Cutting Edge?
So far i think Stable is the only version supported for OS X. I hope cutting edge will be out for Mac soon though

Still stuck on Stable (Fallback) here. Haven't found a way to get out of it.

Do we have to download the first one or the second one, or both?
Jedivaldi
And also when I download it it close right away or it just take to long, it says there is problem with the X11
Ambrew
So it works for me... but the problem is whenever I'm mapping, there's no toolbar. All it shows is the Apple icon, then "Wine" then "Window". No "File", "Open", etc

There is a way with the new alpha release, however it's unplayable for me. The input lag is unbearable, fullscreen isn't working properly, you get a tremendous lag spike on the first few seconds of every beatmap and framerate is locked to vsync, which is a horror for osu! Unless it gets fixed soon I'm taking a break and waiting patiently for the native version.

Yay, finally osx users have decent osu client.

Screenshot:

Try using wrapper from my fork:
https://github.com/vsnrain/osu-wine

In short:
- Use MacDriver to get less lag but scaled resolution.
- Use staging-1.9.9 engine
- Use Stable40/Beta40/CuttingEdge release streams as they have required fixes.

Getting stuck on this after update and it doesnt run.
I wrote about it in my GH readme. Means that osu updater installed Stable distribution. It is built for dotnet4.0+ (4.5?) but wrapper has only 4.0 installed, and missing important patches. Open osu.config and change release stream for Stable40. Then get compatible osu executable (try this one from stable40, you can use it whenever you need to invoke updater with broken setup http://www.mediafire.com/download/1anmo ... osu%21.exe) and run it, it should download correct distribution. If then it runs but you can only hear sound with black screen, remove some files like osu!ui.dll, osu!gameplay.dll and hope that on the next launch updater will rebuild osu correctly.

unrelated, please don't read
SPOILER
In my stupid opinion, osu updater is a horrible horrible mess. It has mind of it's own and does not give a f about what do you want to do. Either it is badly designed and horribly broken, or made intentional to just piss people off. It would be good to turn off updater/fallback mechanism completely or at least make it do what it is supposed to do - install latest version from release stream configured in osu!.cfg, not decide on itself what's better and automatically change osu!.cfg accordingly. But what do I know.

I was going to try it, but I am busy on this week, so I'll do it later. Dotnet45 support in wine is not very good, so I expect same issues that were before (like broken tabs, etc.). And dotnet45 osu builds does not have patches for osx/x11 so I don't see much point in using dotnet45 wrapper now.
monkaGreg
can i get some help with opening osu! with xquartz? im not sure of how to use xquartz properly

i will try to make one. do you know what are required dependencies and libraries for osu to install on wine?
I'm not completely sure now, but for previous experiments msxml3, gdiplus, and maybe directx was enough.

im confused on what to do with the contents of the "osu-wine-master" folder still.

Uhm...

Is it just me or are all the download links on osx.ppy.sh giving a 404 Error by nginx??

I have tried pretty much all versions back to the first.

EDIT: Nevermind, its working now. Heres hoping it works!

Hey everyone. I was wondering if it would be possible to open source the native OSX code base? I would love to help on my free time!

It's work on OSX 10.11 ? Because when I launch Osu! :

The application X11 could not be opened.
An error occurred while starting the X11 server: "Failed to activate core devices."
Click Quit to quit X11. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
Thanks :)
