Can't start from certain circles

In 7odoas' pluto chart on some sections certain circles wont let you start your combo from them, why?
Eg. in the picture you cant hit the 1st purple circle unless you hit the red circle. They are different chains why shouldn't i be able to start from the 1st circle, why is this? Is there some kind of trick behind this?

That is called Notelock and unrelated to combos.
Whenever there's a previous circle still available for clicking you can't click the next one.
Visually this is represented by the active circle slightly lighting up(which none ever notices).
