I've had this idea in mind for a while and even though it's probably not something really necessary nor easy to set up, I’m curious about what the community thinks.

Right now, map collections are an in-game feature for players to have a bunch of maps that have something in common grouped together. However, this is something rather personal, since collections stay local so we could say it’s not a part of the osu! ecosystem – they’re not online and players often don’t know about other players’ collections.

But what if map collections were shareable? What if you could actually upload them and have them displayed on your user profile for others to explore and download? Think about it as the beatmap packs we have, which are curated by osu! staff, but for everyone. Also, like beatmaps, it would have a rating system which people can use to vote for collections they like and a comment section, and if we wanted to make it more complex we could add a “suggestion” system which other players could use to suggest beatmaps that fit the collection’s theme to the creator as well as a ranking with the most liked and voted collections.

The idea originally came a long while ago when I found a text puush with links to different maps that some player chose to specifically train different aspects of your skill, classified by reading, jumps, streams, aim etc. It ended up being pretty useful for me and it was just a random text file with links that I found by chance at someone I don’t even know’s profile.

This could be an interesting feature for players to find and share new maps of a certain style they like, and to generally raise “map awareness” and make it more of a social thing.

While this request is similar, it's not exactly what I'm suggesting here. What I'm saying goes beyond exporting and importing collections - I'm talking about implementing them as an osu! feature both on the website (user profile, collection browsing) and in-game. Of course, that would imply being able to import and export them as you could download other user's collections.

Did you read the second post of the thread?

I've read the entire thread and nobody suggested that collections could be implemented the way I explained above. Perhaps if I illustrate it with images you'll understand better:

(The design is obviously a copy paste of existing elements and will obviously become obsolete when osu!next arrives but you get the idea)

Only if you can make collections private. Otherwise, i am for no.
I still find this pretty useless and wasting database space because i think faster Peppy can make option to export collection to XML/CSV and you can just share a file between player than adding new categories, rewriting profile etc.
It's imo just waste of time and sources. Better bump t/126033/start=15 so you will have option to share your collection in the future.
