01:16:734(1) - at this point in time, the backgroun music seems more important musically than the vocals. In my opinion, it's a little hard to hit this note at the right time when there's this weird 1/3 business going on.

03:37:042(spinner) - i'd make this silence completely, and i would get rid of the finish Oops... Edit: i meant to add this to general, or say it in all levels.

Okay, tried to normally mod the hardest difficulty, [Shattered Promise]. Did a quick IRC mod, and posting Symmetry and placement suggestions here.

To make it easier, I color-coded them so that:
Blue is: This looks as if it should be parallel to another beat close by, but is not.

Light green is: This slider looks like it needs a little push up or down to look perfect.

Light purple is: That looks like it should be aligned with another beat, but is not.

Orange is different: recheck the spacing on this whole combo, it feels very odd and harder to play.

Take a look on the attached version of your diff in my post, I placed 2 timing sections at the times mentioned above, to reduce the slider speed there (BPM x0.5). You place a new timing point at the beginning of the slider, then you set the BPM Multiplier to 0,5. At the end of the slider, you place a timing section with a BPM Multiplier of 1. If you still have questions, ask me again.

Listening to the other difficulties, the hit sounds are pretty dis organized in my sense of using hit sounds.
Instead of trying to mod the difficulties which would have me changing near every sound and/or note, I'm going to try and give you a crash course on a (what i think is a proper) method on how to use hit sounds.

When it comes to the CLAP, I tend to think of it as the metronome for the Osu! player. The easier the difficulty, the higher the clap tick you want so the player can keep on beat.


On harder diffs, the tick can stay the same or you can space it out more since there the more experienced players have a better sense of rhythm and/or there are more soft beats inbetween drumming away.


As for Finishers, I prefer to keep the (hard) finish sounds for the final beat in the time signature. Ex. in a 4/4 time signature, i could put a finish on the 4th beat of 1/4 notes. For 3/4, the 3rd beat of the 1/4 notes. For (soft) finished, the same could be done, or something I like to do---add them on the symbols being used in the drumming or to accentuate a powerful or intense part of the song, like you you on 03:30:816 (1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4) - [Shattered Promise]


For (hard) whistles, I tend to keep them for Kiai time. 1/2 beats, or extra drumming off from the metrical beat of the drums. Ex. Drum solo's. As for (soft) whistles, I keep them for softer intensity songs to replace clap sounds or to indicate a softer section of the song.

That, so far, is the general basics I use hit sounds for. To help the player with the song's BPM, spice up the 4/4 or whatever time signature the song has, and THEN get more complex by adding hit sounds off the time siggy to add your own unique groove/music.

1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and
1 clap 2 clap 3 clap 4 clap

The more complex you get, the more likely you may make the music TOO noisy with additional sounds.

Hope this helped you with getting a solid hit sound board. My advice would be to copy a difficulty, erase all hit sounds and try what I explained above and see how it sounds compared to your original works. Any trouble understanding anything, feel free to PM me or find me in-game. I used some musical terms there you might have a little trouble wrapping your head around if you've never played any instruments before.

Starting from here I get a little confused sorry XD (especially the parts i marked red)

As for Finishers, I prefer to keep the (hard) finish sounds for the final beat in the time signature. Ex. in a 4/4 time signature, i could put a finish on the 4th beat of 1/4 notes. For 3/4, the 3rd beat of the 1/4 notes. For (soft) finished, the same could be done, or something I like to do---add them on the symbols being used in the drumming or to accentuate a powerful or intense part of the song, like you you on 03:30:816 (1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4) - [Shattered Promise]


For (hard) whistles, I tend to keep them for Kiai time. 1/2 beats, or extra drumming off from the metrical beat of the drums. Ex. Drum solo's. As for (soft) whistles, I keep them for softer intensity songs to replace clap sounds or to indicate a softer section of the song.

That, so far, is the general basics I use hit sounds for. To help the player with the song's BPM, spice up the 4/4 or whatever time signature the song has, and THEN get more complex by adding hit sounds off the time siggy to add your own unique groove/music.

Hope this helped you with getting a solid hit sound board. My advice would be to copy a difficulty, erase all hit sounds and try what I explained above and see how it sounds compared to your original works. Yup, I definetely will have to try this >_<" Any trouble understanding anything, feel free to PM me or find me in-game. I used some musical terms there you might have a little trouble wrapping your head around if you've never played any instruments before.

I usually do hitsounds as the LAST thing in mapping because I feel its independent to how you situate the notes. Also, if you do hitsounds early and find a section needs to be changed, it adds more effort replacing hitsounds and you can (it does for me) confuse yourself as to where the hitsounds originally were. Long sliders....means nothing I feel. If it causes a break in the static clapping, let it make a break. I rarely find cases where a long slider makes the periodic clapping sound odd.

I think the clapping should be more often. Every other white tick should have a clap. (My opinion here) And on every 4th clap or every other 4th clap a finish could be added during the normal instrumental parts (exclude any abmornal instrument playing or solo's)

I find whistles annoying if used too much. That's why I keep it for special times, EX. Kiai time. 1/2 beats, 1 clap 2 clap 3 clap 4 clap = whistle clap whistle clap whistle clap whistle clap. Extra drumming, like if a snare drum is used sparingly or a higher pitch drum, I'll add a whistle on those spots to accentuate the lesser used musical sounds.

The soft whistle sounds like a light jingle so its not really a whistle per say. That's why I feel it can be used in-place of the clapping for softer, quieter, slower songs. When I say hard and soft, I mean changing the hitsounds to hard or soft in the timing menu (F3) if that might have been confusing you.

Time Signature. 4/4 means... TOP 4 = how many quarter notes per measure. BOTTOM 4 = what type of note gets a main beat. In this case 4 means a quarter note. Im not going to dive deeper in this, its not REALLY important unless you start getting into songs that are 3/4, 6/4. 9/8, etc... so uh.... if you still dont quite grasp time signature, ignore this.

Again, this is just a general thumb to making hit sounds. More seasoned veterans have a way to not follow this and still make a groovy sounding map. I'll make a comparison with something I just started doing, snowboarding. I learned the basics from my friend and finally learned how to go down the mountain without and problems. Then I started adding my own technique to the basics to form my own way of snowboarding. Then I felt comfortable and started experimenting with jumps and board grabs and rotation (which landed me a broken clavicle and pinky finger.)

Same with hitsounds, learn the basics, add your own groove to the basics, experiment off that. The bottom of my post was probing moreso what to do AFTER you get the basics down. If you don't fully understand that, that's fine.

One more thing, when adding a clap line into the song, change the timeline to only show white ticks and just scroll every other tick, marking the note with a clap. If you land in the middle of a slider, big whoop lol. Just keep moving on until you go thru the whole song. Play it and see how it sounds.

To save some time for me typing im gonna say that i recommend you use claps in the 2nd and 4th beats, this is called the Clap pattern

00:52:278 (3) - Change (3) into a circle, then make a regular slider at 00:52:508 - 00:52:970 use the beforementioned clap pattern, afterwards add a beat at 00:53:201 with new combo and continue with what you had, the reason for this is because right now you're breaking the beatflow with the slider, and doesnt seem to be following anything at all since you're forcing yourself to 1/2 beats, with this new pattern you will be able to continue following the vocals and also set a slider to link the main beats and go again into the notes without breaking your hitsound pattern.
01:03:585 (3,4) - Why are these notes stacked while 01:05:431 (6,7) these ones arent? either stack both or dont stack either, for consistency
01:17:893 (2) - Use the finish only at the start of the slider, rather than on the whole slider.
01:21:124 (1) - I dont see how the finishes are fitting the whole slider, i think at best only leave a finish on the same pattern as the clap pattern, or use claps instead of finishes as well.
01:24:585 (1,2) - I think a normal, clap, finish for each slider fits well with the changes of pitch in the vocals, but a finish or a clap at the end help as well.
01:26:431 (1,2) - Use the clap pattern in these 2 sliders, even if they are set both to red ticks the clap pattern still fits.
01:33:816 (1,2,3,4,5) - I dont see why you're mixing finishes and claps in here, it makes it sound random, instead try deciding a spot to use for more accent for the finish, and using clap pattern with claps for the others, or just use one of the 2 on a clap pattern.
01:35:662 (1,2,3,4) - Clap pattern here, because the song is not soft enough to not hear hitsounds at all.
01:37:970 (5) - Clap on start, repeat and end, it sounds very weird being silent.

02:27:816 (1) - End at 02:30:355 with a silence.

Ok this map is far from ready, and on a side note avoid making any updates while a MAT/BAT is checking your map, it's annoying :<
