So after seeing Yuyoyuppe - Aiae [Wafle's SHD] + HT as every second profile's top rank I have to wonder...
Why does HT give so much pp?
I fail to see why players should be rewarded for playing a map with HT, sometimes even more than if they were to no mod and pass.

To just give perspective
Although it is a rather low score, my current pb on Aiae is 571,871 with 85.86% accuracy
It gives 179pp

Another player has 349,180 score with 91.19% accuracy + Halftime
It gives 257pp

Now I think that 179pp is fine for my score, after all it isn't anything great.
But under most circumstances a pass should always give more pp than a HT play. Especially when the HT play isn't anything ground breaking either.
And not to mention the fact that if we play mods that make the map harder, ironically, we get LESS for this because there are no bonuses. It's just harder.

I understand that a good play on Aiae will always give more pp than a HT play of any calibre and that I should "git gud" but that is not my point. My point is that Half time shouldn't give such a large amount of pp to players who cannot pass the map nomod.
If they can't pass the map then they don't deserve the points it would yield.
I would say the same applies for NF and EZ but NF is for when you can't pass, cuts the score in half and doesn't apply bonus pp and EZ has a similar problem but you might get a little extra score.

Because PPs are based on Score AND Accuracy, and yes, It's actually really dumb.

because everyone plays for PP

and no one will fix the HT problem because... they don't care :)

Think of it this way: with HT, your maximum score is 50% of the actual maximum possible, AND PP calculation is based on the difficulty of a map as well as the score.

The reason something like Aiae HT is worth good PP is because even with both of those things decreasing the possible PP for that play, because the map is so hard to begin with it's still worth more than a lot of other maps are. Even with HT Aiae is still rated pretty high in difficulty.

Ideally the PP system would be able to determine the difficulty of a chart on HalfTime and players would get the same (if not slightly lower) return on investment playing very hard charts on HalfTime than playing charts on no mod. All HT would do is expand the number of charts players can play to get PP off. Same applies to DoubleTime.

This is not the case at all, but AiAe (and to less of a degree Speedcore 300) seems to be the only chart that HT can be abused on. Maybe some of the more overrated 7K charts as well, but regardless - just a fault with the star rating system overall. HalfTime giving PP doesn't seem like a bad idea if the formula itself is fine.

They make the difference of AiAe going from 6.67 to about 5.5 stars, or 5.51 to ~4.4 on HT, which wouldn't come close to the amount of pp people get for these scores now. Speedcore has a similar problem, it's just that the bursts on AiAe are 20% faster. It's got nothing to do with whether you're playing on HT or not. I thought we've been over this :P
Oh I wasn't disagreeing with your point for sure, was in response to the OP in general. I completely agree with you said.
