does someone want to be my pirated portal 2 co-op partner? ;_;

Bought Portal 2 for around $30 in a retail store.
Still installing atm. Should I go co-op or single first?

Single player. Co-op could spoil some things.

Don't even try Neo. Ph0x is a fanboy and doesn't give a shit about opinions of others. And he seems to be a little prick who can't afford video games anyway. Sure, Portal 2 is a great game but there are downsides: Loading times everywhere, not much content (at least some challenges would've been nice), unnecessary in-game store and the puzzles weren't really challenging.

I agree with this, but I still love this game.

No. Don't get me wrong, I love this game. The graphics, music and gameplay is amazing but that stuff mentioned before bugs me.

i still insist that portal 2 was not worth the 50 dollars i spent to get it.

what >I< spent to get it. simply because I think something is not worth as much as you do means jack shit in the grand scheme of well, everything. i just honestly think that the thing i experienced was not worth the price i paid to get it. why even try to refute my opinions by pinning them to the stuff i've played previously, like that is some sort of justification for taking offense to having different opinions than you over something

the loading screens were incredibly irritating, thank god my machine is beefy enough to reduce them to about 10s a pop - i feel sorry for the poor fuckers with lower end machines playing that. the core gameplay was about 3-4 hours in duration, the puzzles were only mildly challenging in parts and what little content there actually was found itself stretched out beyond belief imo

i just wish the puzzles actually required some thought like the first one. i'm pretty shit at puzzle games (read: intensely shit) and still found portal 2 an utter cakewalk - that is how glaringly obvious most of the solutions to the chambers were. nothing was really ambiguous like some things were in the first one.

was it entertaining overall? yes. is it a good game? certainly. is it game of the year? it's fucking april you stupid cunts.

I finished the story mode in 8 hours, and the co-op should last for 4 hours. That's 12 hours, and you could go secret hunting if you'd like that. It's not like it would be fun if the story mode would've lasted 20 hours. Some extra puzzles would be nice, though.

Nharox wrote:

I totally agree with the store. Is it even possible to get the items aside from the in-game store?
Personally, I was OK with the difficulty. I've been stuck a couple of times, but I was able to complete the game without looking up the solution on the internet.

He's just jelly because I used to give me opinion in the SC2 thread and everyone was getting mad at me for giving comprehensive arguments as to why it's a shit game not worth the money. He just wants to take a revenge.

Boo fucking hoo, 10 second loadings.

Also "was able to complete without looking online"? Really? does that mean it's too easy because you didn't have to cheat it? I think the difficulty was perfect. Enough to get you thinking for a bit and get you satisfied for solving it, but not so hard that you rage quit and go look online.

Eph sums it up well.

I borrowed it off a good friend (reeeaally good friend) and yes I can't deny it was entertaining and exciting but after completing the game you come to realise how simple it actually was. It really does lack the substance and content that featured in the first game. I knew this would happen, as it does with most games that introduce multi in the sequel. Honestly, for me it's not worth anymore than $20 which is what I deduced after playing it for half a week. It's good for a giggle, but the first one surely offered more giggles.

My torrent is 60% done... not buying yet because it probably won't even run. Honestly I think I'll end up buying a new PC for this game (and because I need one generally).
Nachy
Got this on the 21st for the PS3 and planning on linking it to my PC Steam account, but since PSN is down for days now I just said screw it and I'll play it on the PS3 first. Been occupied with the co-op with my brother on splitscreen and man it's easily one of the best co-op games out there. Played as Atlas and my bro as P-Body. The gestures are pretty cute and funny, and loved GLaDOS' remarks & intimidations during the game especially when failing or taunting her.

All of the chambers were pretty fun especially the last set of chambers with the gels, throughout all of them took us a good time of thinking. One of my favorites is where one had to handle a funnel/beam while the other had to use a bridge as a shield against turrets, and even the critical timing puzzles didn't end up frustrating and managed to be enjoyable.Ending for co-op was pretty Pixar-ish which is pretty cool even though I was expecting some super boss behind the vault. Took us roughly 7-8 hours I think, most of us got stumped on the non-lab chambers especially on the Hard-Light Surfaces and pretty much the finale chamber. Just gotta love on how the game makes you you're about to give up and then suddenly both of you and your partner gets a sudden brainstorm hivemand and get the idea on what to do and just go oooooooooh, finally get a satisfying job well done and proceeding to the next chamber.

Only thing that's kinda silly or negative about it is the less seamless loading screens this game has compared to previous Valve games like Half-Life or the original Portal. The dynamic cute and artsy loading screens especially being related to the next chamber/period of chamber or the co-op robots' design is neat and all, but I would had preferred the old blurred out loading screen, and as well as how they're placed out. After all, Valve innovated seamless loading in the first place and it's rather a step down on how they did this time. Plus the whole in-game store is rather unnecessary, I know they're all cosmetics, optional and Valve just doing business to gain some extra income from rich bastards/idiot actually willing to shell out $5-10 on hats. But it's still kinda annoying, and hopefully Portal 2 won't suffer TF2's "trading for all my vintage for an unusual plz plz" every single minute in co-op.

Haven't even finished solo yet (rather only played through chapter 2 lol) and it's already for sure going in my top 10 games of 2011. And considering the SDK and shizz, both co-op and single in this will most likely last for me a while even through Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3's release. Also hoping for free DLCs like advanced Portal chambers like the first one.

I should open SDK and check if I can make something fun for Portal 2.

"Comprehensive arguments" my ass. You keep complaining about the $60 price tag, that's it. And sorry that my opinion doesn't reflect yours.

Anybody here played the singleplayer twice?

It would really help if you knew how to read.

Also, Portal 2 DLC coming out this summer.

I read about this on multiple news site but none of them really talked about this thing I found the other day. When hacking my way to playing singleplayer maps in coop with a friend, a strange GUI appeared on my friends screen which showed "Your team's score" and "Other team's score". And my team score would go down every time one of us died.

Are they working on some sort of competitive portal2? Deathmatch? speedrun? Who knows, they're apparently gonna announce it in a week or two, and they said there will be more comics and shit. Oh and by DLC, for those console fags, I mean free content for all you whiners.

Also, DLC information:
Official word has just arrived in our inbox from Valve that the first full-on DLC for the lovely Portal 2 will be free (on all platforms), and promises “new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more.”

I only played Portal 2 for like an hour when I first got it, but blasted through it in the past couple days.

I actually found the main-game challenges in Portal 2 (the latter half of the game, once you get to Cave Johnson's area) more challenging than Portal's. I think that was largely due to the open spaces and increased exploration available in Portal 2, so I looked for solutions in the completely wrong places. Net onto the fact that I didn't find any challenge in the original Portal's test chambers. I ran through Portal in one sitting in just under 3 hours, and Portal 2 gave me a few sittings' worth.

Single player campaign did tend to move rather quickly from one idea to the next and there weren't enough chambers that tried to apply everything you'd learned. It was just, here's one mechanic, then here's the next mechanic, then here's the next one, and they're largely isolated, instead of compounded. There's room for much greater complexity there. I also found it funnier than Portal, which was a big plus in my books.

The game was pretty short, but I wouldn't pin this down as a fault: there are no bad bits. Final Fantasy XIII wasn't short. It did have several dozen hours of unrewarding experiences though. Disgaea games are not short. But completion requires hours of grinding. Portal 2 is small, but it is comprised entirely of the juicy bits. Is it worth the full price tag? I'd say more-so: you get a good experience (ymmv) and you didn't have to pay someone to trim all the fat out. This sort of observation is certainly directed more toward those who have much more limited time than those who don't, however, so take it with a grain of salt.

Experimented with co-op mode a bit, but I've only done the first two chapters/chamber-sets there.

Also, I didn't even realize there was an in-game store. So I don't know what people are complaining about that for. It's obviously not intrusive if I can complete the campaign without even being made aware of it.

@awp: you'll find the coop section of the game slightly more challenging and at some parts far more rewarding. I personally like h ow they split the puzzles up. They put the more mind bugling ones in single player where you're alone and have time to think, but don't want to die and have to restart, whereas they kept the puzzles that require timing and experimenting for coop where you can die and respawn as many times as you want and have fun with your partner.

I found these two mods are two entirely different experiences.

Also, the way you put the length issue of the game was definitely great.
awp
Finished co-op mode a couple days ago. It was fun and the last 2 or 3 puzzles were fairly challenging (they were actually very simple solutions though). I kind of preferred the single-player experience, possibly because it was more showy and possibly because it was just funnier. Though GLaDOS' efforts to pit partners against one another was amusing, it was really the only joke for the most part and ended up serving to be a 3 hour running gag.

Guess I'll post this here :P

Portal is what every puzzle game should aspire to be, just intelligent puzzles alone isn't enough to make a great game, you need great presentation to actually keep people interested.
You could also try the approach Catherine took, I'm sure you know what I mean >.>

This thread lacks potatoes and cakes.
Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

@Shiirn: I've been meaning to co-op the game with someone for awhile now, played the solo ages ago when it was first released.
If you're fine with me I'd be happy to give it a shot. Gotta re-download the game first though. Do lmk.
