Does 7k/8k ever start to feel comfortable

Stupid question.
But how long does it take? Is there ever a time where 7k/8k feels comfortable once you've rooted yourself into 4k, and are there any exercises I can do to help my finger independence / dexterity?

just play the game and don't stick with the same maps

Rooting on 4K is a common mistake players make, because it will be much harder for you to adjust to more keys now. But I think that after a month of playing random 7/8k maps, as long as you don't have a small set of them that you play all the time, you should get really comfortable in around a month (it took me about that long back when I started 7k)

It takes everyone different amounts of time. When I switched from stepmania to o2jam (4k to 7k) it took me about 3 months to feel comfortable playing 7k. Keep in mind that I am a slow learner, and most people will improve faster than this though.

I play O2jam, LR2 and Mania, so I don't think I have to worry about that. I am wondering if there are any unranked 7k gems (Map packs etc) that I can look out for.

If I stopped playing 4k for a while and played LR2, would I be able to fix this? I want to be as good as 7k/8k as I am 4k. :x

Would you say you prefer 7k, or would you say you like it as much as 4k? And do you actually feel more comfortable playing 7k?

You can try to download some LR2 or O2jam skins... also bobbias has alot of O2Jam converts with good patterns you may be familiar with if you play those games already.

No, there's no way, we live in eternal pain that cannot be stopped, only quitting the game can stop our suffering

personally not sure about playing 3 games all at the same time, i find adjusting to different games hard, so playing 3 games at once (might ?) be contributing to the fact that you are not adjusting to 7/8k faster, it probably depends on the mechanics/noteskin/other factors that separate these games from each other, just putting this out here

you're thinking of comfortable as a relative term so the answer is never. doh

is this chair comfortable? well, compared to standing up, it is, but compared to this couch, it isn't.
if you're better at one key mode than another than the one you're worse at is going to be uncomfortable forever

I know that playing LR2 with my left pinky feels like shit, and scratch note being on the right is only cancer.
As for o2jam, I probably feel the most comfortable playing that (visually), but unfortunately, nothing in mania even comes close to that feeling.

True, but from another person with a similar experience's perspective, (Bobbias for example) I would like to know their experiences with "switching" keymode. I would assume downgrading to 4k would feel just about the same if not better to Jhlee. This isn't factoring difficulty, which would put a player like Staiain and him in two complete different categories of "comfort" if playing retarded files.

To sum it up, would you not logically feel better playing with less?

To become 7k ET, you must embrace the pain

I prefer 7k. I feel that the larger number of patterns in 7k gives mappers more options. I'm completely comfortable with both 7k and 4k. Right now I'm actually playing stepmania and focusing on improving my 4k, but that's because I've gotten bored with how few fun 7k charts are coming out here right now.

You're forgetting that 4k requires much more speed in the fingers you use for it than 7k does generally. Just because there are fewer columns doesn't mean 4k is going to automatically be more comfortable for someone. Currently I'd say my 4k is noticeably weaker than my 7k on hard stuff.

That answer's my questions. I would ask about the difficulty between a 4k and 7k 3 star song and how comfortable you would feel with 4k playing an easy song, but I suppose that's highly relative. Hopefully in the next month of no-lifing 7k I can get good enough to feel like it's natural :^]

You can't compare star rating between 4k and 7k maps, unfortunately. In 7k, you don't reach truly ET maps until around maybe 8+ stars, while in 4k pretty much anything above 5.5 is probably going to be really hard. The other thing is that star rating is fairly inaccurate. In 7k, I've failed on 5.5 stars while passing 7.77. This also applies to 4k, but a bit less because 4k's overall range in star rating is smaller.

The cool thing about rhythm games is that if you play anything long enough you will get comfortable with it. I play with flashlight mod, and it took me a week straight of playing every single day for several hours before I felt comfortable truly playing with it, but now I literally cannot play without it.
