If you have any pending maps, you will need to change them before submitting. Ranked maps will not have your new username until osz2 is implemented (which will mean they are fixed).

Thank you very much....
Happy now....

Am I supposed to be allowed to change? I'm not a subscriber at the moment, though I once was.

You must have donated once at any point in time.

It was taken, but it was determined to be an abandoned account so it went bye-bye.
I want to change my nickname in "Kurai", But There are a guy who have already this nick (http://osu.ppy.sh/u/47761 playcount : 0 | Joined: Nov 2, 2008)
Is that possible to delete this account ?
(If that possible for Sushi, Why not for me >.<)
Galkan
Same like above, niko8rs wanted to change for Niko, but he must of add "-" 'cause it's already taken by guy with zero playcount.

http://osu.ppy.sh/u/Niko
http://osu.ppy.sh/?p=profile&u=175141

Also it's a feature request: Couldn't those accounts (with zero pc) be auto-deleted after some time to allow others change their nick?
Zekira
So tempted to change to Zekira Drake, but then people I have abandoned will be able to hunt for me easier :<

...then again the name Zekira is rare anyway, I think I'm the only one using it lol.

Oh well.

I Love you Peppy! <3

Now i will stop flooding your pm box xD

I just have to wait till i can take the inactive "Aqua" :)
FurukawaPan
It makes sense to me that if an account registers and never plays/posts in the forum, that those sorts of accounts should auto purge after a certain time frame has passed. Aqua is one such example of an account that appears to have registered and done nothing (most of these are actually spambots anyway).

This is what I thought as well. Perhaps a timeframe of two years (or even one year) would make sense, especially if the account has 0 beatmaps/0 posts/etc. Obviously there could be more lenience if the user has a higher playcount or such, but I digress...

Purging old accounts this way works too. :p

I don't like that idea.
And how is "no longer active" classified? I've seen quite a few people who put osu! down for quite a while, but eventually came back to it. I don't think that's fair to them, plus you could do some nasty things with it. Say I turned into MOOMANiBE, Saturos, or Sarumaru. Actually, they have recent site visits...
But still, I could hijack a recognizable person and mess with people, despite them being able to see I used to be Pokebis.
I think it's just a bad idea 100%.

#modHelp was discussing different restrictions with peppy last night about this. Number of ranked maps, playcount, (and possibly forum posts?) would be taken into account. Therefore, old ACTIVE users would never be touchable.

The accounts that people want seem to have <100 playcount, haven't been logged since 2008 or early 2009, or were only active for a day or two.
KRZY
Well there is no harm in purging the obvious, i.e. 0 posts, 0 playcounts.

I can't imagine peppy was thinking of letting people grab the identities of people who were substantial contributors and for whichever reason have stopped playing/mapping/posting. I assumed inactive account meant 0 plays/0 posts anyway which would definitely not be the case for any significant past contributors to the community.
PhyProductions
Apprently once someone changes names, the old one IS grabbable.
Example: http://osu.ppy.sh/u/gladiool (Gladi before)
And now theres: http://osu.ppy.sh/u/gladi as of yesterday.

Just pointing it out.

peppy wrote:

For the time being the old username will be obtainable by others. If you are worried about this being a problem, then don't change your username yet. I may look at the possibility of reserving the old one at some point. I think most people who want to change their names won't be that attached to the old name (they shouldn't be if they are changing it) so apart from obvious impersonation attempts (which can be dealt with on an individual basis) I don't see there being too much harm the way it is.

Fixed page styling so people will read.
Gabi
oh cmon haha, i knew something like this would happen
Ekaru
I did read the part about 'recognize you' and stuff. I was just being emo, stupid, and trying to quit chat 'cuz a friend got banned so I changed my name. The moment I pressed the button I realized what I had just done and went, "AH SHI-" because I knew I did nothing but confuse everybody and frantically pressed 'back', but it was too late.

...Is 'I was being absolutely positively retarded' a valid reason to request a name change back to one's old name? >.>; If not I'll deal with it. If it is I'll go request it then.

EDIT: And... wrong place to post this. Oops.

EDIT2: Was answered. You can delete this post actually.

You should probably make the currently not-huge parts of that sentence also large, currently it interrupts the flow too much. Maybe have the sentence go from big to bigger to biggest

DataCirno wrote:

He changed it because the name change system was intended to be used for things like Beuchi-chan becoming Beuchi, and stuff like that. Therefore, he kicked some ass and rolled back names that didn't follow this original intention.
James2250
He changed them back because the rules state you are not allowed to change your user name to something unrecognizable (it says it in big letters) to what it was before, those people didn't follow that.

/good job posting 50 seconds before me CDFA :P
Mara
That sucks. 0/5

It is just highly recommended...

Cuddlebun?
Ekaru
Cuddlebun used her name in IRC for months, so her name change didn't cause any confusion to most people.

Others were either recognizable under their new name or just weren't well known (AKA no one cared about them).

The names that were changed were the ones that caused the most confusion from what I can tell (including DataCirno's name change, he's a frequent Off-Topic user). Except for CDFA. That wasn't that confusing to me, since CDFA is the only person on this planet who would change their username to Justin Bieber. It was probably confusing to other people though.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Actually, DataCirno is known as LunaticMara everywhere other than osu. It was a worthwhile change.

And expounding on Ekaru, not only did I use it in IRC for months, I usually talked ONLY in irc, so there wasn't conflict between Cuddlebun/Todesengal, even when I was on osu. Not to mention I was Cuddlebun elsewhere, like vent ^_~

You can "Request" a new Username and a Bat/Peppy have to check it. If its oke, the change will be done, if not, the Player will get a PM with the Reason for "NO!"

WHY?! SERIOUSLY, WHY!?

I was away from August 1st til August 10th, this feature was introduced one day after my departure, I've been asking for it a while ago, and now it's gone again? Are you kidding me?

I joined osu! more than a year ago because someone showed it to me, but I didn't think about my username very long because I didn't play it that much and thought I'd never write something anyway.
But after about half a year I downloaded it again and now I love it, but I also hate my old username, it's stupid.

Please, give me and maybe also others a chance! :( I promise I won't regret changing my name and I won't ask to change it back. PLEEEAAASE!

Oh, and I don't have any ranked or pending maps right now, so in my case it wouldn't cause many problems. I'm actually a newbie, anyway, even though I have a large playcount (at least over 100)...

You read it wrong. What peppy meant is that if you want to change your name to one that's already taken, that other account must have less than 100 plays.

A little context:

The name change feature has always been restricted to users who donated (and can only be used once)

The peppy-quote above are conditions for someone *else* to essentially take over some inactive user's name. They must have not played the game significantly (less than 100 plays requirement), and must not have logged in for nearly 2 years.

The real way to read this, if you don't play osu! often, but want to make sure you don't lose your account, log in at least once a year (pretty easy) and/or get your playcount over 100. All accounts that have played at least 100 times are secured from having their names stolen.

Actually I was able to change to this name even though the former user logged on recently, he didn't have any plays though.
