I think the plays that get into your 'Best Performance' should show the plays that goes into your 'Recent Activity tab' of your user page regardless of whether it's in the top 1000 ranks of the map or not.

Best Performance is sorted by pp. New entries are there, you just need to scroll down far enough.
Try browsing the Development forum for 3rd party apps like osu!Track if you want to follow your stats more closely.
