Hello.

Recently, I've run into an issue where the sliderslide and slidertick were both almost silenced. (keyword almost) Basically, the user decided to use a silent slider file to silence the sliderslide, and then he used a inherited timing point to change the volume of a part to 5%, and this volume change affected the slidertick too.

The problem with the above is, that with the current way the editor is, your not allowed to use 0% volume, (unless you edit the .osu which your not suppose to) and that its basically the sound thing as silencing both slidertick and sliderslide, which is not allowed, according to what is stated in the ranking criteria:

Ranking Criteria wrote:

Hitsounds from notes and sliders must be audible. These provide feedback for the player, and having them silent in a rhythm game doesn't make much sense. If you don't like the default sounds, then find replacements rather than silencing notes. You can use hitsounds from the Custom Hitsound Library or easily find others online. Lowering the volume of a few notes to provide a dampened effect is usually fine, but complete silence is always unacceptable. The end of a spinner (or even the entire spinner) the sliding sound of a slider, and the end of a slider can be silent, but only do it if it makes sense. Finally, you cannot silence both slider ticks and slider slides together.
Anyways, I would like to see your thoughts. Personally I think its the same as silencing both slidertick and sliderslide. (having both files)

these are all my maps, diffs, and they never got DQ'd.

I only put 5% volume line for ticks only when I'm usnig long sliders (longer than 1/1) and if there is no sound at all where the ticks are. Having tick sound when there is no sound doesn't make sense to me personally. also it becomes really annoying for me when I hear them when the bgm has nothing.

5% is NOT considered silence. I don't know why some people making troubles about this, but sliderticks doesn't always fit the song well, so using 5% at the specified parts should be totally fine imo

hope this issue gets clarified here. I've been using this and was forced to change it for one of my map recently...

I only use it when it makes sense. I don't silence all the ticks in the map
