How's this even possible/how did they do it?

On this map I played a while back I just realized the person in first has 20 more points than anyone? The map has no spinners or anything of the sorts...

If there's a pattern with two or more sliders connected head to tail, then hitting the following slider before the previous one terminated would put the end of the previous slider to one combo later than what it should be. This would lead to a slight score advantage since the score system is largely based on combos.
I heard about this somewhere, although I can't confirm that it's true, it sounds very much possible.
