Supporter tags current go for $4 a month if paying monthly, or as low as $2.17 a month for a year. I haven't changed the prices for many years, but due to inflation this actually means that the revenue I am making is decreasing (ie. supporter is getting cheaper but my costs are increasing). To put this in numbers, based on inflation since 2007, the current price of supporter should actually be $4.81/month in 2014.

I'm considering making the first change to supporter pricing, and was wondering what people think about it.

My proposal is

1 month $4 -> $5 ($5/month)
4 months $12 -> $15 ($3.75/month)
6 months $16 -> 18 ($3/month)
8 months $20 -> $22 ($2.75/month)
10 months $24 -> $26 ($2.6/month)
12 months $26 -> $28 ($2.33/month)

Keep in mind that I always use available profit to expand the team and throw as much money back into the game as possible. It would not increase how much I am personally making (which at the end of the day isn't that high, contrary to some people's beliefs :p).

Once I have results from this poll, I will be separating them into votes from people who currently support osu!, and focusing on those numbers, so current supporters' opinions count more.

oh don't please :(
$4 it's average

I don't mind if you need to increase prices! If it helps osu! then go ahead I won't complain.
Ironsoul27
Go ahead peppy, I don't mind the price increase as long as it helps ya :3
__Hatsune_Miku
pleas no.. T.T

== But.. My heart is changed in favor of higher prices.
Tomoka Rin
i accept the new price cause i believe it will make osu better
Rina
Yo when I saw you talking about this I figured you'd be more generous to yourself than a one dollar increase at the lowest point, but this is still just as generous to us as you've always been. Make it as much as you need, Peppy.

I don't have a problem with this. Question: Would the increase solely be to help curb the negative revenue or would supporters start seeing more benefits?
Just asking, not trying to sound like a dick.
dionzz99
its okay for me although i never buy a supporter (only gifted)
if its due to inflation, i can accept it :)

More benefits are coming, but they are not planned to be delivered in scale to price increases. The cost of supporter is not supposed to be equal to the value of what it gives you. Supporter benefits are already pretty huge, and they will only get larger (read: less proprortional, in your favour) to the cost.

Thanks peppy. Just wondering.
How many times are you going to get this question and how many times will you decide not to reach for the gun?
Samui_old_1
So the price increase is:
  1. 1 month +25%
  2. 4 months +25%
  3. 6 months +12.5%
  4. 8 months +10%
  5. 10 months +8.33%
  6. 12 months +7.69%
Not that bad of a price increase, to be honest. Especially when supporter is not required to play.

Edit: Just as a suggestion, why not make the supporter price for 6~12 months to:

  1. 6 months $16 -> $18 $20 ($3 $3.33/month)
  2. 8 months $20 -> $22 $24 ($2.75 $3.00/month)
  3. 10 months $24 -> $26 $28 ($2.6 $2.8/month)
  4. 12 months $26 -> $28 $31 ($2.33 $2.58/month)
kokoro_kiseki
Hehe the price is fine as long as it helps improve osu >w<

Im too poor to be a supporter. plus, my momma doesnt know i play osu XD

Wut.

As far as I am concerned, a $2 increase for a 6+-month-long supporter tag is largely acceptable, I wouldn't mind if I had to buy one.
Thinking for others, the price increase for the 1 month tag may sound a little steep for those who regularly buy this kind of tag as a gift for friends. Don't know to what extent it will impact the number of tags sold though.

Just out of curiosity, what are the most frequently sold tags? I believe 1, 12 and 6 are the most common but I don't know for sure.

You can increase it but please add more payment options :v or just bring back MOL Points .
SuperTurtle
No problems here, a dollar or 2 is hardly anything.
silmarilen
if it's necessary to keep the game running then do it.
Raging Bull
I'm fine, the price change looks very generous still.
smead
The $4 price was kinda unique to me, but I'm fine with the increase :3.

And who voted "No. I will stop supporting osu!" xD
Yano
I have no problems with these changes.

osu! gives (for me at least) more and better content (lol) than much other games. (F2P and P2P)
The community is also nice, apart from the shitstorms. (<- but they're entertaining)
sellyme
I'm happy to pay three times as much as I am currently if it means that the various defunct stats pages around the site would actually start working again (example 1, 2, 3).

Not 100% certain that I'd continue paying for supporter if it was raised with the current features I get for it, but if it gave access to more advanced statistics (especially an easy score database browser similar to osu!db (but not awful)) I'd pay $10/month without even thinking twice about it.
gadrin
The supporter wouldn't be called the "SUPPORTER" if it served no purpose in supporting the game. I love the game, and I want to support it, so i'm up for the increase, with big expectations ;)
Carrox
You should add lifetime supporter option

That would decrease the potential income by a huge amount, let's say everyone that wanted to buy a supporter, bough it for a lifetime. There would be no more income and the whole system would break.

Besides it is hard to calculate a price for a "lifetime" supporter time.
Mazo
The increase is fine, I would have only spent that extra dollar or two on Riot Points anyway.

I was really surprised how cheap supporter was in £'s anyway, I'd be more than happy to pay a little more next time around! I get a lot more out of this game for the small amount I payed than I would anywhere else :)

The new price is totally fine with me.

Honestly though, I'd be happier if you transferred some of the functionality benefits to all the players and perhaps keep just the "fancy features" (such as skinnable welcome.mp3 and background images) for the supporters.

Basically to make the supporter tag more like "I want to support the game" rather then "I want to compare myself to my friends in the rankings."

IMHO it would attract more people to play the game. (or rather stick with it) -> more people would eventually pay for the game.

thoughts?

I won't support anymore but nothing about the price.

Honestly why even make a public poll
you won't get any negative resonance on this thread anyway, everyone's an idealist on the internet

on topic, I'm a greedy bastard and wouldn't like to see the prive increasing tbh, but the difference is really low so it doesn't really matter to a single person, I guess

(Also, "the revenue I am making is decreasing"? Please, the amount of supporters is rising like mad as the amount of players is growing, you are bound to have earned more over the years than the inflation could make up for)
Jerry Scarlet
I have no problem to the increase if this change can promote development of osu!
But...I think supporter is just a donator,not a buyer
FaL3C_ChoBo
I'm ok :)
Te Amo
As long as its for you peppy-san
Nakano Itsuki
Well... the natural response is to reject any sort of price increase. :P
However, seeing that it isn't rising too much, I'll accept it.

Damn, how I want to read this over and over and over and over again because it's one of the smartest things I've read in the last months.

On-Topic: The increase is pretty good and acceptable, honestly wouldn't mind to go even on 5.50~6 dollar but I think we stick on five and everyone is happy.
Sieg
nah... one more dollar, totally fine

Pretty sure it leads to more costs for resources though.
Pannari
I'm perfectly with the increase. As long as this is not going to lead to supporter prices steadily rising.
Karuta-_old_1
This is not marketing so I am going to calculate this based on the donor point of view

------------------------------------------------------------------cost per day-----------------------change in cost per day
1 month $4 -> $5 ($5/month) ------------------------- 0.133 to 0.167/day---------------3.4 cents per day
4 months $12 -> $15 ($3.75/month) ------------------ 0.1 to 0.125/day-----------------2.5 cents per day
6 months $16 -> 18 ($3/month) --------------------- 0.089 to 0.1/day-----------------1.1 cents per day
8 months $20 -> $22 ($2.75/month) ----------------- 0.083 to 0.092/day--------------0.9 cents per day
10 months $24 -> $26 ($2.6/month) ------------------ 0.08 to 0.087/day---------------0.7 cents per day
12 months $26 -> $28 ($2.33/month) ---------------- 0.072 to 0.078/day--------------0.6 cents per day

I am okay with this, the difference isn't really that big

It would be better if the increase for 1 month is lower, not many people really have the money to pay for 4 months and more
something around $4.75 would be more feasible

Also, "the revenue I am making is decreasing"? Please, the amount of supporters is rising like mad as the amount of players is growing, you are bound to have earned more over the years than the inflation could make up for

Osu! has changed alot since 2012, I am not surprised to see this. The competitiveness of this game tells you how the community has grown. Back then there wasn't many players who make it to the top 50 with mods other than HD. And people were not that eager to participate in tournaments either

yes! do it c:

mobile paymentis broken for my country (at least for me) and sms as well..

If you need to increase the prices that's fine, it's not even going up much so I'm perfectly fine with it.
khan119
No I will definitely stop supporting osu for that extra dollar you are so greedy peppy wow
Harold Miner
If price changed,I think people who support this game should have more interesting items,change username twice sounds good.

I understand the need for an increase in revenue, however most people overreact to even a slight increase in cost (asking on a forum isn't exactly unbiased), possibly resulting in a decrease in revenue. I suggest you simply advertise supporter more, such as putting a "support osu!" Button on the opening page above the link to the site. This button would link to the buying supporter page on the website or if you wanted perfect integration the button could link within the client itself.

Demand curve:

with an increase in demand as you can see, the increase in demand would increase, but the price would not increase because you have infinite supply of supporter to give. therefore increase in revenue (area under dotted line = revenue). You could also increase demand through other means such as increases supporter perks.

what is being proposed, an increase in price alone is more likely to give these results.

As you can see the increase in price of supporter results in a decrease in demand and the profits are likely to remain about the same. (again, area under dotted line = revenue)

Tl;dr I believe if you simply increase demand through advertising, profits would be greater than simply increasing the price of supporter a slight amount.
Kurabuman
1 dollar, no big deal.
Heterozygous_old
I did vote for "no I won't support", but that was based on something like
note that they are not donations; osu! is not a charity.
that peppy said weeks before.
I thought that to support osu! means to give money to peppy just to help running this free-to-play game without expecting anything in return, and peppy offer some minor convenience just because of thankfulness.
However, the claim peppy made above sounds like he thinks that supporter is actually a product for sale, which makes me feel like being cheated. That's basically why I voted for stop paying.

If I was misinterpreting what he said, and the nature of supporting osu! is not donation, nor product for sale either, then I apologize for such misunderstanding and I'll keep supporting without hesitate.

same here ... the 4 $ r kinda unique but its not a big deal if u want to increase it a bit ...
for me its anyway not about the benefits at all ... they r neat and nice but not essential for the game .. i support when there is a good option and i have some money left ... the better if there are some benefits ... of course :3
