Most efficient way of getting SS?

So lets say I want to get an SS on map with minimum amount of time/attempts. How do I go about it? Just playing same map from start to finish? Or playing the parts that I fail more? Or I play on harder difficulties and then come back and own it?

This.
But SS'ing a song isn't important. You shouldn't focus on SS and just keep playing and try to FC (Full Combo) songs.

This. I only try to SS maps I 100% know I can SS within 1~3 tries, unless I really like the song.

my acc higher than urs and i still agree with him SS's are pointless to go for.
the only SS i have on an actual insane was luck, id never bother retrying even if i only had 1 or 2 100's.

why bother? it's not fun and you aren't going to get as much valuable skill increasing experience as challening yourself will.

I like getting SS. I'm doing full combo all the time.

the most efficient way to SS is to first learn how to acc and then play maps that are easy
Oinari-sama
Play from start to finish. If you feel that there's nothing stopping you from getting SS, then get it within a few retries.

If there's a particular part of the map causing trouble, then identify the skills required (eg reading / streaming / jumping), add the map to Collection and just forget about it for time being. Keep a pool of such maps for warm ups (F2, play once and move on to the next). Train the "missing skills" in harder diff/maps.

SS should be fun, at least that's how I see it. Stressing over 100 retries to SS a map isn't the most efficient way to improve :)

This game is quite pointless.
RaneFire
Accuracy is best practiced on easier stuff, but you should focus on developing your skills on harder stuff as well. It doesn't matter how many SS's you have on easier stuff, the moment you try harder stuff, that all feels like a waste when you realise you're lacking in everything, even reading.

exboshy wrote:

Basically... Yes. But don't wait 6 months before coming back to easy stuff. Come back to easier stuff on a more frequent basis... every week even.

You do have a point there.

If it's your goal to SS stuff, go for it. Best way to learn accuracy is playing OD10.

Going for SS is useless for your general accuracy if you use a billion tries for it, so it's not worth the effort. Eventually something will click into place and accuracy will get easier.

I feel like if you're asking questions like that, you shouldn't be too worried about SS'ing maps or being efficient or whatever.
chainpullz
The difference in pp between having a single 100 and having an SS is quite negligible. Unless the song is easy for you, a 99.5% might as well be an SS for the amount of time it will take you to actually SS it.
Kouya-
I use to focus on trying to SS every song I came across when I was pretty nooby . (And Still am ;~;)

But, like other people are saying, you shouldn't really focus on getting SS because they aren't really important unless you SS'ed something you're really proud of like an insane song.

But seriously, just practice FCing and getting really good acc 97.00%+ is good considering your accuracy you need to fix as of right now .

I wouldn't do this if I were you, maybe SSing my favourite songs but not all of them
akitoApocalypse
SSing seems sorta worthless since if you even screw up one hitcircle and miss it a little it screws you up and you lose the SS.
Unless you are getting to the leaderboards I don't think it's a good use of time.

Personally I wouldn't go on harder beatmaps since when I go back to easier ones I find myself just pressing the hitcircle too early because I am so used to playing harder beatmaps. That's the reason why I never play easy beatmaps unless I'm a beginner.

I think people are forgetting that there's more than one way to enjoy this game. Not everyone plays to rank up.

https://osu.ppy.sh/u/Winshley#_generall <- 4mod SS, SS marathons
https://osu.ppy.sh/u/ryuu <- Just SSing
https://osu.ppy.sh/u/lncognito <- Rank 1s on easies with max rpm spin
https://osu.ppy.sh/u/read00001234 <- ar10.8
https://osu.ppy.sh/u/MillhioreF <- Easy mod
https://osu.ppy.sh/u/Plasm <- HDFL

You can't really say "it's pointless", "it's not fun" or "it's a waste of time" as a reason since people have fun in different ways.

Side note: Most people I see who complain about not having fun are people who play to improve, but don't see results.

I agree with this. You don't really need to SS everything. I personally prefer just trying my best and having fun.
dinopwn
It's not about SS being useless, it's about having fun.

Anyway, focusing on the game 100% is the best way to get SS. Some people just can't listen to the music, so focus on reading approach circles.

Or, try playing maps you can FC. Then come back later, and get a better acc, until 99% or more. You will find yourself improving.
kuur0
If you find spamming retries and trying to get SS fun then by all means go ahead. 1 SS so far and I am cool with it.

I personally wouldnt recommend that since it just pisses most people off when they choke on accuracy. SS shouldn't be chased, they have to pop up when you play casually

My 2 cents that no one asked for (also yes, I shall revive this thread):

I also get a lot of satisfaction from SSing maps! I’ve been playing for about a week now & would spend a lot of time SSing every map I came across. It actually helped me understand accuracy & when to click (I tend to click too early way too often).

Now, though, I haven’t even played any maps above 2.5 stars because I’m spending so much time SSing all the easy maps. So, I’m currently just focusing on FC with 98%+ accuracy (anything below just frustrates me, hahaha). And now I’m finally slowly sizing up my comfortable star difficulty!

Just saying that I totally get why / if you enjoy SSing maps (because same) & it’s great for when you’re a beginner learning the mechanics & gaining skill, but it’ll stump your growth in the long run.

I know this thread if from 4+ years ago & you’re probably rank #12 rn & literally no one asked for my opinion BUT in case some newbie stumbles across this form, hopefully this helps!

That wasn't a challenge.

edit: Also, if you find youreslf stuck at 2.5* or wherever going for SS's, that's a you problem, not an SS problem. You're stuck because you're not willing to challenge yourself on harder maps even for an SS, not because of any inherent problem with going for SS's. Case in point, I've got to roughly my level of play in the span of 6-7 months going ONLY for SS's. That's because I still played maps above my comfort level (not a lot, but I still did).
