Need some suggestions on songs!

Hello, I am fairly new to osu!, and I am having trouble finding songs that I like.

Most of the songs I have found here are Japanese/anime related. I can't find any good songs that are "Rock" (besides about 1 million Linkin' Park songs a couple of which are okay).

I can't find any quality beat maps that I feel I would like. The best one I've done so far has been Owl City - Fireflies, which is a song a I don't particularly like, but the beatmap was just very well-made.

So, any suggestions on beatmaps I would like? Any sort of English techno(I suppose japanese techno is fine if its good) metal, English rock beatmaps that anyone could suggest would be very helpful.

If you haven't yet, try going into the database of Beatmaps and then selecting Genre.

You seem to like Larto's mapping, at least for that map. Maybe more of his maps would be sufficient? (Shameless plug? :V)

Thanks, didn't think about checking the author's other works... however on the Genre thing.. I tend to like obscure bands, ones that most people don't know about.

I was shocked when I didn't find any Pendulum in the Database... I figure'd that would be something someone would do.

I also was upset when I didn't see any beatmaps of Jet Set Radio Future's soundtrack. I is sadness :[


But I will definitely check out the author, thanks! Any other suggestions would be welcome

also, in my original post.. I don't know why I said "fairly new" to osu! I installed like 5 days ago and just started playing last night. Any other suggesitons welcome!

Thanks, done and done. Anyway, any more suggestions on beatmaps I'd like? There just doesn't seem to be any beatmaps of the obscure songs that I like >_< its frustrating.

Wiklund/Unicorn Kid (Chiptunes)
La Roux (Really good songs and really good maps)
Rolled maps (Rolled is an amazing mapper who maps English songs pretty much exclusively.)
0_o maps (I heard this guy is awesome)

searching by genre works to a very limited degree due to the lack of support for subgenre (eg Rock > Metal > avant-garde gothic black metal) but since the implementation of tags, using keywords in the search should yield some better results. For example, if you search "pirate metal", you'll get not just one, but three Alestorm maps presently. Albeit they're a bit mixed in with irrelevant things such as "Metal Gear Solid" and "You Are A Pirate", but it will drastically cut down on the amount of searching you'll need to do.

I actually had some fun with the Wiklund ones. Bumping this for anymore suggestions that I would like!

I used to be the same way. Before I started playing Osu! I listened to heavy metal and classic rock almost exclusively (Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Dio, etc ... you get the picture)
Once I started playing Osu! I found myself in the same dilemma you are now: the songs I knew and loved were few and far between (I also dislike Linkin Park). After a while, I wanted to be able to play more songs than the few I had, and so I just started to download a lot of random songs from the 'new ranked maps' list that I've never heard of before. Although there were some songs I didn't like, I did end up discovering a lot of artists in genres I'd never explored before (not to mention some really fun beatmaps, too) and even some music I would never have imagined I would listen to before.

If you feel adventurous, I would recommend doing the same thing I did.

Looks like we have the same musical tastes, too: Metal, Rock ... I also really liked that Owl city track as well :P
