Do you check links before you click them?

This is considered a basic online safety practice, but most people I know don't really do it. As for me, I've recently become aware of this and have started doing it, primarily on websites I don't trust.

Most of the time yeah but it's basically impossible to do it every single time.

Also kinda useless in some cases like here most links posted are to other forum posts and at worst if someone fakes a post link it'll be a rickroll (usually predictable).

A simple way or at least to check the link especially if it's embedded in a text is sometimes you can hover your cursor over that and the link might show on the lower left side of your browser.

Sometimes, it doesn't and from there you can use virustotal and send the link there for analysis. I use that often if
I find the link a bit suspicious.

But even that isn't fullproof. There are some ways threat actors can bypass your system just by clicking a link. They can exploit vulnerabilities or even zero day for their system to force your browser to dowload certain unwanted files as the loading itself is an act of downloading but that's highly uncommon.

I barely ever encounter links that are hidden so not really a worry I have
