I honestly think it's true what they say about the life cycle of an osu player. I first used osu as an aim trainer for overwatch, but then I started getting more into it. I started realizing the simplicity and vibing to music is just fun. I started making friends in this community, challenging others to get better, playing in tournaments and in discord calls with the boys was always fun.

I can't help but look back on my 7 years of osu! and realized it was really good. Despite all the anguish I lamented trying to improve at streaming or getting a 500, it never really mattered, cause I just enjoyed playing multiplayer or tournaments with the boys.

Fast forward to today, my osu friends don't even play anymore but like 1 of them consistently, which is crazy cause all of the people I knew were crazy good, but I guess that's life.

It's also the same as me, I haven't even broken 100 play count since june of 2023. I only play osu now to listen to my favorite songs.

Oddly enough, osu! got me into metalcore and my friends, but I've been an absolute metalhead now for 2 years and going to concerts.

I'm so proud my first concert was Veil Of Maya. All because of this map beatmapsets/480298#osu/1215688.

Ever since then I've gotten into bands like currents, wage war, spirit box , erra. All because of osu.

God damn this game is probably the only game i'll ever truly stick with even into my 60's.

Looking back at it, especially "veterans" of osu, how was your experience? and did it influence your life in a positive or good way?

PS: sorry for rant :3

I think osu ages well as a game even after burning out. It's just fun to come back to just for listening to music after getting past your playing to improve phase. Unlike some other games where once you're finished with it or quit, you never bother touching it again. But I guess that wouldn't apply to those who has play to improve as their only reason to play and don't care for music

All I can say is that this game did expand my music taste. I don't think I had anything meaningful with the community itself though

I also listen to two artists you listed

osu absolutely changed me. I heard about osu first from the 50 player knockout vids on YouTube (I originally thought it was a multiplayer gamemode but whatev). The one that really stuck with me though was the C18 Team Grimoire one where it’s just Vaxei vs Danser the bot at the end. IDK something about that felt epic to me.

Then of course I went down the YT rabbit hole of osu content. I thought it would just end with me watching clips like I did with clone hero but I figured why not try it out. I never imagined I’d ever get good enough to pass the OG Big Black, but why not try out the game. And man did it stick.

Over time I slowly got better and better. And seeing that improvement over time had me wondering what else I could improve on. So I started studying art in my free time. Had I not played osu I don’t think I would’ve ever gotten into art.

2-ish years later, I have a small IG where I post art on a semi regular basis, have a couple short animations, and an intense passion to pursue art professionally. Oh, and I also passed the OG Big Black :)

This is kinda wholesome in a somber way. osu! will be with us forever, no matter how old we get :)

Yes osu! affected my life, and still does. I met some cool people and found amazing music, and it's just great to be part of a community in general, especially for so long.

Met my husband through us playing osu together. Other than that idk if I'm better off from osu, it's tough on mental sometimes and as old man, idk how many more years my hands can take it. But I'm thankful for the good times I have had.

so glad to hear people getting more invested into music because of osu, I can relate to that. it's nice to be able to play along with it and hopefully do it on a real instrument in the future.

Osu not only found me great music that I can vibing to, it brought me the time of try hard but also enjoyable with lots of friends I made, it also connect me to other RGs and the love for them.
Mapping and its community get me to know with more friends, not only did I got my works contributed to this game but I feel connect with cool mappers and modders
My tag name as you can see above is a community I built up with love
Osu plays a part of my life, before realized, I know that I can lower my play counts, but not with the community and friends I made along the journey
