1. Try some skins
If you are playing with the default skin and think it's annoying, you can always change it to something that fits you better. I always suggest players to check this website to find the best skins of the game : https://skins.osuck.net/skins/category/popular?t=1&d=0

2. Play various maps
There is a bunch of preinstalled beatmaps in your collection when you first join the game, but you can also download more of them with various bpm, length, genre and many more in beatmapsets.

3. Set your goals
Improving in osu takes time so you have to use this time to actually set yourself some goals helpful in the future. It can be something as basic as getting 95% or higher or getting at least 500 combo. Day by day, your goals will become increasingly more challenging and it's good.

4. Bad habits
Don't play maps that are way harder than your skills for no reason, don't mash your keyboard when playing a map (= try to understand the rhythm) and don't retry spam a map endlessly in hope to FC it.

5. Enjoy game
You are not obligated to play the game everyday just to improve faster. Allow yourself to take breaks if you are not feeling well (tilted, sick, etc.) and enjoy your time clicking circles on more chill beatmaps if you want!

There is really no such thing as tapping too hard, in general at least. Many top players tap extremely hard.

Read, don't react. More precisely, learn to read actively and not lazily/passively. So many beginners see notes appear and just click them as fast as possible without really absorbing their exact position and timing. This is the reason so many beginners end up mashing when they see patterns like slider streams and 1/3s. A lot of beginners can't even tell the difference between a 1/3 and a 1/4. A huge fundamental issue that results in these problems is that beginners will see a pattern and try to categorize the entire pattern into "stream", "triangle jump" or one of a various other number of patterns.

To read "actively", I would recommend trying to read each note as individually as possible (in most circumstances, sometimes it isn't possible). I personally do this by looking at each note to the best of my ability, but a lot of top players seem to use their peripheral vision a lot so I won't claim that it is necessary. By doing this you should hopefully circumvent the above issue.

I would tap too hard on my keyboard

I'd rather not putting text wall on new players

Play more maps!
There's a lot on osu that you can explore. If you find one is too difficult, you can lower the star rating or play another one. You can try getting more accuracy over time. Accuracy is one of benchmark to gauge your skill.

Tapping hard is a normal thing that happens when you are tapping in a hard section of a map, for example jumps. If you find you are mashing your keyboard all the time maybe reduce the difficulty or focus on tapping softer. There is also a range of playstyles, and sometimes forcing yourself to play a certain way is not good.

As for the Ds and Cs, it simply means the maps are too hard. You can play these harder maps for fun or to train, but the pp will come from FCing slightly easier maps where you can get S and A ranks with high accuracy.
