Reading pata's analysis thread it reminded me of that time I was reading a book that was translated in french from english.
There's this awful habit some people have of translating everything or making up french sounding words when no direct translation exist.
This book did that but it was so bad there were several times when a sentence didn't make any sense and I actually had to translate it back to english to understand by guessing what the original text was.

I still can't get over the fact that it's not only possible to be that bad at translating but you can get that kind of shit approved and published to be sold in actual bookshops.

That also happens (partially) in TV shows translated to Latin Spanish from English, where some things make NO sense with the original.

You know, that happens with more frequency in dubs, especially when the original work has a lot of wordplay and obscure references that makes it difficult to adapt it into another language.

Maybe OP wasn't really clear but when I say it makes no sense I don't mean with regards to the story or whatever.
I mean it literally doesn't make any sense, doesn't mean anything, like words put together at random.

It's not just that some of the original sense was lost, the concept of semantics itself was lost lol.

yeah, publishing a book is actually surprisingly easy, there is a lot of low-tier, thrashy books being sold, so finding one that just has those type of problems was to be expected
