You know those Linux desktop screenshots where they show their wallpaper and in the corner, there is a window that shows their specs and OS and whatnot?

The program used back then and still used sometimes today was named Neofetch. On the 26th of April, the maintainer of the project has made the repository read-only. Basically, Neofetch has stopped development. :(

Good thing this spawned a series of programs with the purpose, so there are a lot of such things to choose from nowadays. :D

An article about the situation, if you're interested.

Jokes aside, tens of maintainers have already forked this script and few of them will keep maintaining them, however neofetch competetors like fastfetch may outcompete them. I would go with fastfetch even though what I do in my linux install, like all same people using linux, is not toying around with appearance with neofetch as a sticker but using it as a tool as what computers were made for (pssst, also for playing games and talking to people in it!) like many others should recognize instead through memes.

fastfetch is better!

It's from Qualia: The Path of Promise. Check hitomi.la for every CG from the VN. That's where I got the illustration from. FYI: The VN is an eroge.

I mean, it will keep working for now, but I think it is better to use Fastfetch, to be honest.

It's just a matter of time when neofetch becomes so obsolete that its dependencies are long outdated that it no longer works

The only necessary dependencies required by neofetch is bash, which is used everywhere, so it likely won't go under any time soon. The optional dependencies, however, will likely go down. xorg related stuff will go down relatively soon. However, most of the functionality will keep working, as most things displayed can be read from virtual files that the kernel uses/makes available.
