Help with Engineers, geographic and design

Greetings everyone
I'm busy with a PAT where I should design a daycare center for 2 - 5 year olds. I should do research about this topic but find it difficult to get usefull information on the net. Can someone help me out to find sites that give info based on how big windows should be in relationship with the room, how big the room should be in relationship with the population, what kind of facilities is needed for children, ect. Thanks.

What's a PAT?

It's hard to comment without knowing how much details are needed. However when it comes to design a facility, you can always start from your local building code/guide to find out what the requirements are. Look up some sustainable design books and you'll find topics like the glass-to-floor ratio etc.

I'd suggest you skip the architectural books if you're looking for technical info. Trust me, if you ask an engineer and an architect about the question of "how much glass is needed for a space" and this is what you'll get:

Engineer: "Depending on the function of the facade and available shading, a ratio of xx% is acceptable."
Architect: "Why do you bother asking? The more glass the better!" (and fails the building/sustainability code lol)

The best advice I could give you would be to first attend an actual day care.

You should be able to at least walk in and look around. Considering how stingy the owners are, I'm not sure how much you could explore without being seen as dangerous, but if you look in an actual day care that fits regulation standards, it'll make things a lot easier.

Considering that a lot of day cares sometimes happen at homes, I'm assuming that you'd need a lot of things that are found in homes.
