everyone tells me to find the original image and change it, but i cant find the file location anywhere. making my own folder didnt work either. i named the folder i made "comboburst" and named each file "comboburst-0.png" then "comboburst-1.png" and so on for each image. each png is also below the pixel height limit. i have no idea what to do at this point.

Making a folder for comboburst images wont work as you need to specify the folder directory in the skin.ini file. If you're going to have combo burst images try putting them in the basic skin folder.
Also I'm unaware of the mode you're skinning for but considering you have the most time on mania: if you want to make comboburst images for mania you need to change the file name to "comboburst-mania-x"

As it was already mentioned some files can have a dedicated folder for them, which you will need to specify in the skin.ini file. However combobursts aren't one of those. If your skin.ini version is less than
Version: 2.3 osu will use comboburst-{n}.png for osu! and osu!catch, anything greater or equal to Version: 2.3 will have a gamemode specific sprite for osu! and osu!catch with comboburst-{n}.png and comboburst-fruits-{n}.png being used respectively. In order to get mania specific combobursts you need to set the version to Version: 2.7 which will then allow you to use comboburst-mania-{n}.png
