Hello everyone and welcome to this Vocal Synth Mapping Contest!



RULES
  1. These submissions must only be in the osu!mania game mode. Any other game mode will result in a disqualification.
  2. Submissions must be in the 4K Key mode. Other keymodes, although appreciated, will not tally for this contest.
  3. The Beatmap MUST follow RANKING CRTIERIA, as well as the osu!mania RANKING CRITERIA
  4. Copying other people's works is prohibited. If this occurs, a penalty/disqualification will be put into place.
  5. Participants may change the creator name in the metadata according to the username, and change the difficulty name as desired. You may also change the OD/HP.
  6. Hitsounds and Storyboard are optional, and have no effect on the judging of the map.
  7. Collaborations are not allowed. If this were the case, it would be very biased to prizes.
  8. If any Beatmaps were to be submitted before the announcement of the contest results, then it will be disqualified


CONTEST PERIOD
This contest will run between these times (UTC+8):
Submissions: 10th May - 15th June
Judging Phase: 15th June - 30th June

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?
Everyone can participate! This contest is not aimed to try and make the best map, but to have fun and experience with different genres of songs! If players were to multi-submit different maps, then only the highest score will count.

JUDGING CRITERIA

PLEASE NOTE
Mapping difficulties of Hard and Above are Preferred, there is no difficulty limit.

CRITERIA

Relavence (20)
This talks about how well the map fits with the song. How the map is generally charted based on how the song sounds.

Creativity (15)
This is about how unique or out-of-the-ordinary this map could be compared to current mapping meta. For example, do some patterns give a feeling of "nice", "cute" etc.

Technicality (10)
This is how well the map shows itself based on the structure, consistency, and playability of these patterns.

Judge Impression (5)
Judges always have biased opinions on certain patterns and how things are mapped. They must provide a reason to why they scored this criteria.

There are prizes for the top Beatmaps in this contest in terms of points! They are as follows:

4th - 6th: 1 Month Supporter


Prizes can always be increased due to kind donations, if you wish to contribute, I will be the upmost thankful <3

If your submission requires a spread according to RC, you can create them after the contest.

Hello, congrats to all winners and submissions, but I as a participant feel a bit clueless as to why hitsounds were taken into account in one of the judges scores while in the rules, it states that;

Hitsounds and Storyboard are optional, and have no effect on the judging of the map.
To me, it seems like they're taking off points from their impression score based on hitsounds; something which has nothing to do with the map's patterning. Would appreciate some clarification on this.

To add on to that, I was also under the impression that changing the diff name / OD/HP/ BG image is optional and would not affect judge's impression but apparently that's not the case at least for me.

mhh yeah i was confused too at first, but one requirement for ranked and for all bns it's the .hitnormal applied to all the notes, same thing the bg. You cannot rank a song without at least a bg and a .hitnormal

soo yeah by following the ranked rules they also meant this ig

the hitsound meaning it's the full one set diff not the single hitnormal.waw maybe (in the point of view of a bn), but yeah im not part of the judges i made an hypothesis

I know you're not the judge, and you are not aware of how the judging is done (since nobody except the judges themselves know)
If that particular judge were using the general ranking criteria for their impression, then half the submissions would have points docked for not having tags since this rule exists
Tags must be related to the beatmap and not misleading for search results.
Now this point,
You cannot rank a song without at least a bg and a .hitnormal
The issue right now isn't that maps don't have a .hitnormal, it's that the judge is taking points off because of the default samples used and the volume of it. Quote taken directly from Scabiosa judge comments
Judge's Impression (4): Only missing a point for default sample set, 15% hitsound volume. Not as bad as some of the entries with 100% normal sampleset tho.
This sentence to me already implies they are penalizing 100% normal samplesets heavier than default sample set, 15% hitsound volume, or at least that's the impression they're giving out.

The other 2 judges are capable of overlooking hitsounds in their judging. Why only this particular one that has to point out hitsounds in almost all of their scores?

In fact, I have a couple more issues but I'll keep them to myself, don't wanna become public enemy #1 here. If you do want to hear more from me, feel free to dm me on discord or here

I have tried to give some interpretation on what's gone down and how things were managed here.

For these issues will be discussed to the judges involved, and I do apologize deeply if this is demoralizing for some.

I am very sorry if this affected you and will make sure from each side of things can be explained and improved for newer mapping contests hosted by me.

Glad that i see where i could learn from any's POV, i know hitnormal is a must on RC (and i slipped out) so i wont complain.

It was refreshing that im able to pull out the idea.
