I do admit there is a culture of making fun of and looking down on lower ranked players. This happens in every somewhat large competitive game, noobs exist in every game. I can't really say whether this is bad as it puts down newer players, or if this is just harmless part of gamer trash-talk culture, but this is just how it is in gaming communities. As for straight up bullying, I've never seen it happen, but maybe you have idk. People have maps they don't like? And most of the time, you can't tell if you'll like a map or not before playing it. In the case of farm maps this is pretty unavoidable though, playing for pp and ranking up is a pretty core part of a game as competitive as osu. Because of this we can't just not play the maps we dislike. The best we can do is show how much we dislike these maps to move mapping and pp in the right direction so they become better. Mapping is brutal to get good at, you need to map a shit-ton to be able to make something not horrible. Even more so if you want to have even a whiff at the ranked section. Also, hating 1-2 jumps is mostly just a meme, more specifically people hate 1-2 jumps in sotarks maps. Just having 1-2 jumps wouldn't make anyone hate a map.
I'm not sure what you had to deal with specifically and what other experiences outside of the osu forums you might have had, but your osu forum post history looks extremely normal and tame (until this). I can't speak for what discord communities are like because I've never been in one, but you shouldn't take the reddit community and the youtube community too seriously. The subreddit is pretty much just nonsensical circlejerking (it's pretty funny though), and youtube comments are youtube comments, youtube comment sections are always shitty (literally go on any not-serious youtube video and sort comments by new, you'll see what I mean).meet26 wrote:

As I said before, farming is a core component of a game where alot of the fun is in ranking up and setting high-pp scores. Pretty much everyone farms, unless they're wilfully abstaining from it because the dislike the idea. Also, your rank does correlate to your actual skill fairly closely. Remember, everybody farms, and like, someone rank 60k is gonna be generally worse than someone ranked 30k 99.9% of the time. Farming to a higher rank means you probably are more skilled than people below your rank. Yeah, acting like you're better than lower ranked people is douchy, but it is also justified, because you are. Farming doesn't make someone a dumbass or a douchbag though.meet26 wrote:

Well everyone farms to hit goals, whether it's to get a new top play or to get a higher rank. And also, yeah, people do have fun with the game outside of farming. How is a community fucked up because some people are good for their rank? You'll be good for your rank if you don't farm? And yeah, rank isn't 1 for 1 with skill. Skill isn't something we can perfectly measure, because of how vague it is. But our rank is the best thing we have for measuring skill, and I'd say it's generally pretty good at saying player a is better than player b, unless their ranks are pretty close or player b doesn't farm at all.meet26 wrote:
