As the Thread title says things like Nico Nico Douga (also Bili Bili Douga), YouTube or BandCamp (http://osu.ppy.sh/forum/p/1811932) should never be used in the Source or as Artist. It's self-explainated why and it should be set as official Rule. It has similar reasons as the Vocaloid Rule.

Websites should not be used as Artist or as Source. Make sure that the Maker of the Song creates its works on this website.

What should be set as the artist if EpicTrollPwner420XD made a remix of a song to youtube/nico and someone wanted to map it then?
It could differ from the original too much to use the original artist, and the uploader's name might be inappropriate.

I'm not a mapper, so maybe you already have a rule about this, but I thought I'd ask in case you don't.
Loctav
Isn't it common practise already?
Unless you are referring to the NicoNicoDouga voice-cut-together pitch remixes.

We take YouTube here as example, k?:

If the maker is mainly active on Youtube (like KinkyOats or yamas03) then YouTube can be added as Tag. If the maker just uses another Name on YouTube but actually active on Newgrounds then YouTube should not be added to the Tags (Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWkIdMxNnTI , Original Creator's name is Sygmx)

As said the creator of the Work should goes into the Artist field and not the website from where the person comes from. Except of NND and Newgrounds I don't really see to add the Website into the Tags but well.. maybe other people thinks different about it.

And yes we actually handle that on this way but it's not official and people are unsure about this point, mostly because of Nico Nico Douga.

So it's still unsure for people what artist they actually can use and I'd like to make with this thread finally some clarification. The latest ranked map, https://osu.ppy.sh/s/74110 has used the website as artist and the creator - which is also the uploader - as source. That is the same problem we got in the past with the eastern vocaloid artist and I really would like to make this problem solved.

That can't be that hard if other people has also found the actual artist/creator of the MAD:
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/47078
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/76115
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/91285
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/64712

Except of the third example the Maps got the Website got as Source but at least the Artist isn't it.

If stuff like this is being brought up, it looks more to me like people don't know what the source field is for.

QFT. I would prefer to word the rule in a way that states what the fields are for, rather than things to avoid.

So, while you are talking about it:
What is it for? :P
eldnl
isn't that self explained?, it's the source lol
Sakura
When a song comes from a videogame, movie or series, or in special cases if the videogame, movie or series was the one that made it famous, then you put that videogame, movie or series in the source.

I remember there being a post explaining this a long time ago when i started mapping but i can't find it again.
Loctav
Yeh, that's the core problem. You or me or some others actually do know it's purpose, but the purpose isn't really listed somewhere. It's known to us, because there were some ancient discussions about it, but actually the Ranking Criteria does not specify this. Nowhere. How are newcomers (arriving this year or in future) supposed to know what we statued ages ago in the dusty corners of this cluttery forum?
Exactly: they can't.

@eldnl oh, "source" is quite unspecific. A source can be Youtube. A source can be "my brother's mp3 player". So please... it's not really self-explained in what we use the Source field for.

Let's go for this. Since I suck at wording this, I entrust someone more profenient in English with that. *glares at Sakura and Kytoxid*
Sakura
Hmm, well i dont think it's like something the RC should specify if nothing else should be mentioned in the tooltip of the Source (and localized) and/or in mapping guides.
Or maybe it would actually fit with the RC.

Ah well in either case i do agree it should be mentioned in somewhere but the current rule this thread aims to fix is not the way to go, more like just put what i mentioned earlier unless someone has a better wording or something.

Edit: Actually i'll think about something better later, gotta head to work atm.

I guess I can also throw Songs from albums here for the discussion since they shouldn't have the Album - whetever it's the origin album or not - as source. Personally I think that websites really do not belong there because it's the same "issue" as with albums. And yes, absolutely agree with the first post of Kytoxid and Sakura, it seems much better to clarify for what the source field is being here.
Sakura
How about

The source field is only to be used if - The song comes from a videogame, movie or series or was made famous because of the videogame, movie or series

It looks too repetitive to me :(

I forgot that non-intelligent people play this game as well.
SapphireGhost
Only use the Source field if the song comes from or was made famous by a video game, movie, or series. Website names are not an acceptable Artist nor Source.
Or something like that.
Sakura

that does work.

That sounds better. I will fix btw the Thread name later, I am currently omw to work.
Loctav
Works for me.
Sakura can amend this.
Sakura
Ammended and is now in effect.

P.S. Edit: Also edited thread title to something more related to the new rule in effect.
