Hello everyone, I've played mania 7k to the point where I can pass 4 stars and stuff and I have been enjoying the game. But EVERYONE says, "LR2 is better than mania" or "O2jam is better than mania". What? Are they crazy or something.

So I decided to try these out. It took almost 5 hours to trying to learn and setup o2jam. I decided to give up after realizing it was a piece of garbage game from 2005, the songs were trash, it was made like a club penguin but worse, it was a disaster.

And then I tried out LR2 (lunaticrave2). Oh my gosh, I setup the game for a solid freaking 10 hours, by far the hardest setup ever for any game. The tutorials on how to set the game up were pure garbage. The game literally runs at standard definition and when you run it at 1080p, u get the shitiest skins ever. It legit takes me like 10 minutes just to learn and setup how osu mania works. I don't understand how people can vouch for a game with the shittiest setup ever.

So my question for those of you who think these games are better than osu!mania. Why do you guys find those games better than osu!mania? Thanks for reading :)

they arent
DeltaNami
They aren't the most beginner friendly, and they take a while to set up, that's what sucks about them. However, they are way better for improvement in 7k. If you want to get good at noodles, you play O2jam for a while and come back after learning that playstyle. Same thing goes for BMS, just with rice. The map selection in osu mania is kinda dogshit unless you go around searching for really good practice packs, which is why people opt for the other games, since the maps are much better and the song selection is generally the same.

Lr2 has BMS style mechanics. This means anti-mash poor judgements (which there is no good equivalent to here), different ln mechanics, and different options for gameplay mods. O2jam has completely different mechanics for calculating timing and HP, it has a pill mechanic that will protect you from misses if you built up enough combo. LNs are even less forgiving in o2jam than osu. Not to mention the different charts available for each game that have not been converted to osu yet.

Some players with experience in those games prefer those mechanics, or those charts.

However, both of those games are old, and not in active development any more. O2jam is officially abandonware at this point, and lr2's development stopped because the creator lost the source code.

There are things each game does better than osu, and things they do worse.

Another element is that both games have had communities for longer than osu standard has, let alone mania mode specifically.

Yes, o2jam is a steaming pile of shit in terms of the code, and lr2 is incredibly unfriendly to set up, even for someone who is fluent in Japanese. But despite those problems, both games certainly have value.

BMS mechanics promote a very accuracy oriented learning environment which features unique patterning you rarely see replicated in mania specific maps, as well as the anti-mash mechanic I mentioned earlier.

O2jam does not punish you for mashing on regular notes, but because that game is very forgiving with normal notes, but is quite unforgiving with LNs, mappers gravitated to using LNs, patterns which require the player to mash just to survive, and other mechanics such as harsh SVs to ramp the difficulty up.

Practicing either of those games will force you to learn to deal with those mechanics, and the skills required to do so will also benefit you in mania.

That's ultimately why many players will say that those games are "better". They mean better in the context of training to improve at rhythm games overall.

Hey Bobias,
Thank you so much for taking your time to respond I really appreciate it. My main goal of 7k mania is to pass jinjin's 10th dan. But do you suggest to keep playing o!m7k or to actually learn and play lr2 in order to reach this goal?

It's definitely possible to get there through just osu mania. I know Alter-(#15) never played o2, lr2, or any converts. He got all of his skills on osu mania alone, and he's Azimuth iirc. I'd say its more about HOW and WHAT you play rather than WHERE you play, if that makes any sense

Well, the reason that so many people hate osu! is the fact that osu! is a community game, meaning that the songs may be copyrighted.
