it's a kind of weird question but when i want to chat in english channel or discuss in the forum , i'm always puzzled about those slangs and abbreviations, which are hard to understand. Most importantly,i dont know how to learn about them. The same situation happena when i watch vtuber's stream lol
But formal sentences and phrases are easy to me.So i'd like to ask non-native speaker for some advice, how do you learn spoken english on the internet

(i cant learn it at school because i'm Chinese, chinese english education just teaches you for the test )

Just communicate using English more, not everyone here is a native English speaker or speaks perfect English, so as long as you make your points clear and everybody kinda understand then you’ll be fine

Speaking of internet slangs you can use urban dictionary to check what they mean, it’s full of memes but you can kinda get a gist of it

Well I’m chinese too but I speak English better than chinese

My best advice is to communicate with people who know English very well. Also try to use English in real life, not just online

I’m going to assume that you wrote the post without a translator and if so, it’s already really impressive!

I don't even know how i did learned English, all i do is watch things in English, communicate in English, and suddenly it became a second nature now.

So you probably will improve overtime aswell :)

Practice, just utilizing English more often and practicing it will make it much easier to get better. Being someone who has learned multiple languages practicing really makes a big difference.

The reason we know how to speak our mother tongue well was because we always have a chance to use them in everyday communication to the point that it becomes an instinct in our mind. Same with other new languages, you just have to find ways to talk with people.

Personally, I guess the meaning of them. Try to make sense of them. Why are they used? Where are they used? Is it exclusive to the community where you are seeing them?

Googling or translating the meaning of them will trouble you, in my experience. To improve language, you should be able to make sense of things in that language, not your mother tongue.

Of course, if you find yourself stuck, or need to, you can search for it. But I try to avoid translating at all.

Also, yes. If you are learning a language, you should try to adapt. Join a community, set your system language, or w/e you need to. This is easier because English is everywhere. Personally, I played a lot of western games and join communities of said games. I also always read novels and other entertainment in English.

Finding someone on the internet to speak English with might be a bit difficult, so in my opinion the second best after speaking is listening. And since the slang terms are what seems to confuse you the most, might as well try watching stream montages or reading Twitch chat (although to be honest the quality in chat isn't the best/ toxic stuff etc.)

By listening I mean watching stuff like https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1nz4y1f7e1 where people are constantly speaking English. If there's something you don't know, for instance what "OMEGALUL GachiPls WAYTOODANK" means, search it up or ask a friend (or me ;) ).

And another remark is that the environment and consistency matters, keep practicing. Try to comprehend 生肉 without subtitles, etc. If your will is strong enough there's nothing you cannot learn. (provided time)

Being a native English speaker myself, just communicate more using the language you want to learn. It becomes easier to understand the more you use it.

First of all, do not discourage if you don't understand a term. If you find something you understand, you can easily look up the meaning of it through the internet, once you understand it you can see the contexts in where you should use it and use them yourself. Practically nowhere you'll see someone mocking of a non-native speaker so don't be afraid to make mistakes.

This is false. English is used almost everywhere. For starters, try using the forums more, or maybe #osu chat. If you mean 'speak' in its literal sense, try discord groups. The process of learning languages has been way easier when social media got popular, especially English.

It's kind of like osu!, you do it more. Talk to people that speak English, learn the language more.

Watching youtube works for me, just search any kind of content that you like on english.

Have you joined the "English" Discord server? (It's literally the name of the official discord server, I don't know whether it's allowed to share a discord link here so you can google it up by yourself) It's the best place for you to quickly jump to random voice channels and practice english with people that are also still learning english around the world. The server is VERY active and has sooo many active voice channel that you can hop into. The people are also very friendly, so don't be afraid to practice your english there. This is not a sponsored reply, It's just because that server has helped my english tremendously.

I do learn slang by searching on Google every new word I read in the chat. Urban Dictionary sure is a good way to learn slang words!
