It seems like there's a recent trend for people to vote low on maps that they can't play well. Good maps end up with bad rankings simply due to some butthurt failures. I propose a solution to this by only allowing people to vote on a map if they at least passed it with letter rank B or higher.

Opinions?

You think this will help?i think the beatmap voting system will be changed, so let it as it is .

Wouldn't be so hard to implement, but I think the whole rating system is broken. People are broken. Their reasons for why X map is good is broken. But as a little improvement why not :v

I disagree. Performance does and should not qualify someone to rate a map. If a map is bad, then your score on it will likely be low anyways. Why do I need to play well on a map if it's bad?

I don't think that is the right way to go. I am slightly more in favor for restricting it to supporters. Even that is not really fair and would promote favoritism. It could be based on your level or playcount. That would ensure a basic level of game experience before you can rate maps. Thoughts?

Let's get Bag ranked and have it be a perfect 10 rating because only I can pass it with a B or higher.

I can't believe I'm seeing this... just how far can you take your elitism...

That's like a politician proposing to cancel voting rights for certain group of people, "because they're likely to criticise the government."

No support at all.

inb4 "your example is wrong" ?? Stop hiding behind your usual excuses and think about it for a change.

Your example is so bad it hurts to read. Stop thinking up analogies if you're bad at them.

This is silly, I'd say people who play maps bad generally vote them UP rather than down, plus they could just halftime the map.

No, your example is bad.

How about take this example instead.

I am an American citizen. I want to vote in the election for the President of France. Should I be allowed to? Of course not, I'm an American citizen and what do I know about French politics.

Similarly, why should someone who can't play a map and/or play it badly enough to get below a B (which is very bad and you should feel very bad) be allowed to rate it?

What the hell Aqo the voting system is retarded per se and will always be retarded no matter what you do.

1-10 vote system should be removed.

Upvote/Downvote would work better and even then you will still get downvotes from people who can't FC and get frustrated and upvotes from people who do well...

Best you can do, in my opinion, is some elitist rating system. Your idea make sense tho, make it an A, B is kind of ughh you can get it by doing terrible if you ask me. Thing is with this you will get generic [Insane] full of upvotes because unless you are completely terrible at this game you will easily get an A which means you are doing good = upvote, and if you like the song ++++++++++++++++++ upvote, and if you like the anime/game the song comes from ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++. So in any possible scenario it still wouldn't work.

I actually agree with Wishy, the entire concept of a rating system is broken and should be removed completely. Even if people pass with a B or higher, you may have better players on average that vote on the map, but people will still downrate songs for crappy reasons (didn't like the song, butthurt for not being able to FC, etc.)

@Wishy: There kind of already is an "elitist rating system", called the CAT. Which is bad for other (off-topic) reasons.
Wishy
I can imagine why it's bad but let's leave that there.

What I thought of, yes I know it may not work either and probably sounds ridiculous, is some kind of review system. Like any player can go and post a little review about the map (actually the difficulty) and people can upvote/downvote it. Something like you get in MAL, but I'm sure this would have about 5000 flaws + will fail. You could simplify it by giving it some basic scores, what I mean:

On MAL you get something like this:

Just replace those fields with things like jump, stream, rhythm, storyboard?, etc. Make it 1-5 instead of 1-10, and give users the possibility to add a little commentary to each field. It sounds dumb and would require a lot of work but then again it miiight work, and personally I would actually read the top voted reviews to see if I'm going to play something interesting. Since this would require going to the website you kind of avoid many butthurt votes/I love the song votes. I don't know just dropping the idea, this has lots of flaws because map judging is subjective and while you may think some map is full of fun jumps they might be boring to me because of any reason you can think of.

Aside from hit item placement and timing, don't forget that the colour scheme of hit object and SB is part of the map too. Why does someone has to be good at the map to rate those? Sure, you can play with SB/BG/Skin disabled but those elements are part of the map as well and should be rated.

Anyway I'll drop the subject.
