Make osu!std in-game background dim utilize gamma correction like it does in osu!lazer. Background blur would be very welcomed too.

Actually I've thought about it since I tried playing HDHR for the first time. HD makes circles lose the brightness. I mean if I had totally white (like 255,255,255) circles without mods, with HD the peak circle color in terms of brightness is grayish (like 200,200,200). Playing HDHR with less than 100% background dim is harder and relies on the beatmap bg picture a lot. So I play 100%. And thus playing HDHR gives the eyes unnecessary strain.

Setting the background dim to 80-95% helps. But current dim works like changing opacity of the above layer filled with black color. It makes reading circles much worse. Combine it with the fact that entering kiai section makes your background flash a bit. And some mappers stack kiai sections on top of each other. So it can go from 90% dim to something that feels like 40-60%. This is frustrating. And very demotivating to play HDHR.

Also playing HDHR with night/reading mode is easier for the eyes but that's just silly.

Eventually I tried installing osu!lazer. HDHR was so easy to play with 80% dim, 20% blur and any skin. My eyes were the happiest eyes honestly.

This might be your own problem, as 90+% of players use 100% dim with no issue. Not tryna be a dick, but you genuinely might want to get your eyes checked by a professional if computer screens are straining your eyes. Or alternatively yake a break, dont wanna damage your eyes man.

Hidden is intended to have less opacity, as eventually it turn completely transparent.

Kiai sections are not stackable.

Sadly, background blur will likely not be added to stable, as stable is currently feature locked :(
Your best bet would be to just use lazer, or wait until lazer score submission is fully implemented. Score submission is in its veary early stages right now on lazer if im not mistaken. (Aka scores will update some stats on your profile. )

Yes, I'm aware of my vision. Indeed I have astigmatism or whatever (idk how to describe it in english). The thing is not that extraordinary.

Every dark theme just annoys me. I can feel like my pupil is getting wider and wider. That's why I want to change the black bg to something more colorful.

Actually my every friend experience this but well they indeed don't mind it as I do.

About kiai. By 'stacking kiai sections' I meant not actually stacking but placing short kiai sections in a row (i.e. https://i.imgur.com/dT9XXgB.png, beatmapsets/1280207#osu/2659376)

About HD. If opacity goes from 0 to X and then down from X to 0. Then X is not 100 like for nomod. X is slighly less like 80-90. That was what I referred as the 'peak'.

Ah, gotcha, those make more sense now, sorry about that.

You could have a look into that background replacer thing that old top player rrtyui used, where everymap had a solid light grey background. (Essentially making a light theme)Not sure if that sort of thing would be beneficial to you or not, back up your songs folder before doing that though if you choose to :)

Understandable how kiai spam can be annoying, the only reason for this is to add emphasis to certain parts of songs, to increase the overall gameplay experience. However it seems like it can do the opposite in some cases.

Would actually be nice to be able to disable the kiai flash in the osu detail settings or something.
