How to minimize input lag on osu!

1. Right click osu! and hit properties, go to compatibility tab and click these 2 boxes

2. Right click desktop and hit properties, use windows classic theme

3. Disable mouse acceleration

3.1
Open mouse options in control panel, uncheck "Enhance pointer precision" and use 6/11 sensitivity (the only sensitivity without tracking problems)

3.2
Install Mark C Mousefix (removes windows slight native mouse acceleration)
http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.com/201 ... n-fix.html

4. Overclock your mouse to 500hz
If you have a gaming mouse you will probably find the option to overclock in your driver, if not use this
http://www.ngohq.com/news/15043-how-to- ... a-7-a.html
This will make your mouse movements less choppy and have less input lag
The reason to use 500hz is that its more consistent than 1000hz and it works on more mice, 500hz = 2ms and 1000hz = 1ms so there is barely any difference
(Don't try on tablets, CTL 460 is 125hz and CTL 470 is 250hz AFAIK)

All that the MarkC Mousefix does is redefine the "enhance pointer precision" option so that it doesn't do anything. It's pointless if you have the "enhance pointer precision" option turned off unless you're playing an older game that forces it on (so this doesn't apply to osu!).

No. You are wrong.

no, if you turn off enhanced pointer precision windows still adds some acceleration, just not a massive amount as if that was on

I'm quoting the website here:
How does the fix work?
It redefines the curve used by the 'Enhance pointer precision' feature to be a completely straight line. The slope of the line is tuned so that every on-mouse-pad mouse movement is turned into exactly the same amount of on-screen pointer movement.
...
How do you know the fix is working?
...
If you have 'Enhance pointer precision' OFF, then the fix will not be active (but it will be waiting to be activated when needed).
The fix just changes the 'enhance pointer precision' feature. Mouse movement with the fix installed and 'enhance pointer precision' turned on is 1:1 identical to mouse movement with 'enhance pointer precision' turned off.
(trust me, I've spent months trying out different mice and different settings, testing in games and with MouseMovementRecorder.exe. Using EPP with the fix is literally exactly the same as 6/11 with EPP turned off)

There's a separate program called the MarkC Mousefix Builder, and all that does is cause EPP to cause 1-to-1 input (same as 6/11 EPP off) at a setting other than 6/11 (again, for older games that force the setting on).

I know this will get more noticed in here, but it might be better suited for the tech support forum: 5

this isnt something that will fix somebodies lag problem, theyre just subtle things that make mouse movements lighter/straighter etc.

you've got a point there.

i like my desktop looking fancy though

anyways the input lag is mediocre other than the aero theme being disabled

#1 and #2 both have the same effect, you only have to do one or the other.

I also just noticed that the only thing in this thread that can be applied to Windows 8 is the removal of software mouse acceleration. The first 2 aren't options in Windows 8 (Aero doesn't exist anymore), and the HIDUSBF polling rate overclock no longer works (although changing the polling rate is still possible for mice that natively support it).

Mouse acceleration is in Win 8.

At least for me.

More like Aero is permanently turned on, even when using "High Contrast" themes.

The new DWM isn't Aero...the whole theme engine was revamped. It's much more efficient and doesn't use GPU acceleration, it can't be turned off but should have much a much smaller performance impact compared to Aero.

why are all of my posts getting misread :| I'll just break down everything I said:
-The option in 1 isn't there in Windows 8
-The option in 2 isn't there in Windows 8
-The fix in 3.1 (6/11, EPP off) works in Windows 8
-The fix in 3.2 (6/11, install MarkC fix, turn EPP on) works in Windows 8 and will give the exact same results as 3.1
-The fix in 4 does not install properly in Windows 8 and will cause issues
-A mouse with a polling rate option in the drivers will work properly in Windows 8

my video lags and looks a little choppy horizontally when I change this. It works great, but looks terrible. Got a fix? (I use windows 7)
