Since there's a #help now, it's hard to get people that need actual help into the channel. New players aren't very keen on the interface (or at least I would think so), so I believe that there should be ways to reach out to the newer userbase that require assistance in-game.

I thought of two ways to go along with this.

1: Have a !help command that displays alongside the !report line when you log into osu!.
This would go very handy along side with !report, but using !help automatically joins the channel #help for the user.

2: Have every *new/first time* user have #help as a main channel alongside #osu.
This wouldn't require too much tweaking, as it'd just have to be changed in the default .cfg, no?

Thoughts and/or suggestions?

I highly support #2

I've been thinking about it since yesterday

i like the idea of #2 as well. would be helpful. also it might be helpful having a message when you join the channel linking you to somewhere like t/19232

I've suggested #2 a few times already, and I'll support it as many times as it take.

In addition the #Help should be mentioned in the Bancho welcome message. So it should read something like this:

Ask questions in the #help channel. Community volunteers are here to help with your questions to their best abilities, so don't be afriad to ask questions in #help!
Alternatively for command help, type !help for server-side commands, /help for client-side commands.
If you see any bad behaviour (spamming/insulting/abuse), use !report <username> <reason> to contact an admin.

That was the intention from the start.

A motd with the !faq ask in this channel would fit perfectly.

Also, #help channel its highly supported with helpfull people (deadbeat, Millhiorie), and very friendly, so I support this, in my way..

Well since this gets bumped I might as well add: can we have a line telling people that they should just ask the question instead of asking "help!" or "anyone here?"

I only read #help between maps and it annoys the crap out of me when I see this common scenario:

RandomNewb: Hello anyone here?
(5s later) RandomNewb: I need help
(10s later) RandomNewb: No one here? Awwwww Ima jump off a building
(some 3min later when I finish the map) Oinari-sama: wtf is this?

Below is a MOTD from my previous post, reworded to address this problem for dev team's consideration:

You can ask for help in the #help channel. Describe what kind of question/problem you have and a staff or community volunteers will do their best to help with your query. Don't just shout out HELP, tell us what you need help with!
Alternatively for command help, type !help for server-side commands, /help for client-side commands.
If you see any bad behaviour (spamming/insulting/abuse), use !report <username> <reason> to contact an admin.

Would give a star but i don't have any :(

For the sake of #help, I would like to bump this and give more attention.

The idea of letting new players join #help automatically is a great idea.
I would also suggest that if their join date is already more than 1 month, then #help won't automatically open.

lol, I was literally just about to post a thread about this. ESPECIALLY the second point

Oh god, this is simply beautiful :(

Hope to see this changed asap.

Bumb!

Being an active (ninja) helper (when I'm not hitting retry constantly), I would totally love to see this.
