Beginner Mapper Queue
A place to get feedback and advice from experienced mappers about why your map sucks.
Rules and Stuff

  1. Beginner Mappers ONLY this is NOT a regular modding queue but instead focuses on teaching mapping concepts rather than trying to "improve" your map. It's not that you're not allowed to, but because you probably won't get anything out of it if you aren't. Please visit my other queue for a regular modding queue.
  2. Be Open to Feedback if you are only interested in seeing how "good" your map is and want to get praised you should ask these guys instead.
  3. Be Prepared for Criticisms sometimes, the best way to tell that the map is bad is to tell it straight, there can be harsh words thrown around but please understand that requesting here is to help you improve your mapping and not to dishearten you in trying to map.
  4. Queue is always open UNLESS it specifically says on the last post that it is closed. I try to keep this queue open at all times so request away (please note that I'm only human and providing insightful feedback for every mapper takes time)
About me

  1. "Anime-style" Mapping my maps are generally simple in terms of rhythm choice. In certain topics I would give more bias towards this kind of style.
  2. Live Discussions are preferred as this allows me to explain to you the concepts with live examples and answer any follow-up questions immediately
  3. How can I trust you to be capable? you can't really, if you're interested in asking for actual qualified people to give you feedback check this out.
  4. Timezone is UTC+8 I'm available at around 2pm - 2am in my time. Sometimes I'll be open as early as 10am as well
Request Format
Copy and paste this in your request
Preferred Learning Method: <Live Discussion/Modding Discussion>
Beatmap Link:
Additional Info (Optional): <Anything else you want to say about your map>
Note that failure to follow this format is a sign of negligence. If you can't follow a short simple format that you can copy paste, then I don't want to teach you.

Quick Tips for Mapping
  1. Map shorter songs a great way to improve mapping skill is to focus on improving your mapping skill and not improving a map, mapping shorter songs makes it easier to keep remapping and moving on to new maps instead of being stuck trying to improve one map that was flawed from the beginning.
  2. Map to represent the music and not to rank the ranked section comes with its own set of rules and guidelines that you have to limit yourself to follow. When you're new, don't try to accommodate to these rules and instead focus on representing the song you're mapping.
  3. Map simpler songs Music is complex and varied, but when it comes to rhythm games, there are only so much songs that have a "mappable" rhythm. Avoid mapping songs with complex rhythm, weird & unstable structure, or too fast or too slow songs, these are generally harder to get right and should be reserved for more experienced mappers. Instead, mapping simple songs that are well-structured and fairly-repetitive rhythm would be easier to express through mapping.
  4. Avoid asking for Guest Difficulties from other mappers your first maps most likely will end up in the graveyard, which is a really bad thing to do to other people who have given their time to your set only for it to get abandoned halfway through.
  5. Be open-minded it's hard to work with people who think they're some kind of incomprehensible genius when it comes to their own maps. Sometimes you just have to trust the person in front of you telling you what's good or bad.
  6. Learn your own rhythm choice Rhythm choice is the foundation of every map, every other concept revolves around what objects are actually placed in the map. See what kind of rhythm do you enjoy playing yourself, if you want to be more dense and complex or simple and meaningful, this can help you guide yourself in what you want to achieve with your maps.
  7. Watch/read some guides such as pishifat's videos, although these guides are more general, this can help you establish the concepts and basis for mapping which you can apply to your own maps as well.
  8. Be self-critical once you've grasped a good basis for what makes a map "good" or "bad," the best way to improve is to constantly try and improve upon yourself, if you think it's bad, it probably most likely is, and no one is more capable of improving it than you yourself.

"Owner of the queue so naturally I'll be accepting the majority of requests here, the other modders will only accept what they want"

  1. Anime-style Mapping my maps are generally simple and "generic". In certain topics I would give more bias towards this kind of style.
  2. Live Discussions are preferred as this allows me to answer your questions realtime but I will do it on Modding Discussion if you prefer.
  3. How can I trust you to be capable? you can't really, if you're interested in asking for actual capable people to give you feedback check this out.
  4. Timezone is UTC+8 I'm available at around 2pm - 2am in my time. Sometimes I'll be open as early as 10am as well

"Hallo, it's a me mario. I have decided to be willingly coerced into taking some requests on behalf of Dudameth. I come from Europe and have a considerable amount of experience with mapping."

  1. Time Zone UTC+2 my schedule shifts around the clock, but you can always DM me so we can set on a time
  2. No song preferences when it comes to mapping
  3. I can't mod anything lower than Insane
  4. If your map isn't good enough then I wish for a live discussion, so make yourself prepared. If it's good enough to receive discussion mods I will lower your self-esteem there.
  5. This is a passion project

  7. Dudameth has my kids, send help
Best regards and good luck on your mapping journey.
Kimchi Sandwich
  1. Timezone is UTC+1
  2. I specialize in Insane and Expert diffs I can only provide basic mods for normal/hard or stuff higher than 7*
  3. Preferably through Modding Discussions if there are any more questions you can PM me in-game
  4. I tend to use more wide-angles or unconventional movement in maps so there will be a bias towards that kind of style in certain topics

I'll try to keep this queue open however if there are too many requests I will have to close it temporarily. I try to put more effort into these mods than in my regular modding queue.

Finished:
1.) whatthebanana's beatmapsets/1211703#osu/2522303
- Via modding discussion in the beatmap page. Talked about Spacing and Rhythm choice for the basics.

Pending:
1.) GabrielBueno's beatmapsets/1211031#osu/2521020
- Aiming for a live discussion about map

Preferred Learning Method: <Whatever you think would be best! If there's a lot to cover we can try for a voice chat.>
Beatmap Link: (beatmapsets/1212760#osu/2524209)
Additional Info (Optional): Vocaloid. It's a song that was ranked in 2009 and hasn't ever seen a remapping, which is very sad. It's a very cute song and I'm trying to reflect that in the map itself with cute patterns and such. It's a little tricky due to it's low BPM :( There's good opportunity for interesting squiggle sliders tho, which is common on a lot of vocaloid maps.
