If you stop trying to smoke you can probably take it 3 months without any help like plasters and such. i did it that way but it didnt work uh.
I can just tell you that quitting smoking without any helpful things is a really harsh and direct way.

Anyway, tips for stopping, hmm.... one good thing to do is get an asshole friend(everyone has one) to follow you around for a while and smoke in front of you while stopping you from having any, shouldn't be a problem if he's actually an asshole.

Everytime you feel the need to smoke just think to yourself your only thinking that you want to smoke now. That helps a bit but not over a long time.
The best way is maybe to reduce the usage with plasters. Slowly decreasing it.

Why don't you try hypnosis? It's one of the most successful methods for giving up smoking.
I stopped smoking cause i was too lazy to go out and buy cigarettes everytime
