Hi, I started osu!mania off at 4k but I want to start playing some 7K maps, so what are some good recommendations for starters?

I say download a bunch of songs you enjoy. The one thing that is great about osu!mania is that they force difficulty spread as part of mapping qualifications. Meaning almost every map you download (except very long ones) have an easy difficulty. The hardest part about getting into 7k after playing 4k is that it gets really frustrating, especially the first week or so until you get into 2*. Play songs you like so that you don't get demotivated as quickly.

if you're an absolute beginner, just head over the ranked section and pick out any map that's close to 1* or below 1*

what you want to do at this stage is to develop your muscle memory above anything else

once you're able to hold combos, try taking a stab at higher SRs

converts are discouraged as they tend to contain a lot of long notes

That is not why they are discouraged at all. Autoconverts are discouraged because the patterns that they generate do not resemble normal mania patterns. This means that they do not teach you how to play the kind of patterns you actually need to learn to play.

converts usually have some super dense trills and other strange technical patterns, but the star rating underrates the hell out of them. also, they get less pp then maps that haven't been converted, making them overall very ineffective to play. if you dont want to be shown converts on the song selection screen, type in mode=m in the search bar.

while what youre saying is true im talking from an experience standpoint as opposed to a quality/progression standpoint. nobody want to start playing mania with tons of sliders like how std does them. weird trills and unconventional rice notes becomes more apparent on 2*+. charts below 2* have tons of sliders.

the point stands. dont play converts
