Hello everyone, we are osu!RunnerUps! A small community server that hosts tournaments for fun. After several iterations of tournaments for various rank ranges, we return this month with a 5k-10k BWS 1v1 tournament! This is the first time we're hosting a tournament exclusively for players in this rank range! We hope you will enjoy playing!

  1. 1v1
  2. Head-to-Head, Score V2, double elimination
  3. 5k-10k, BWS with badge appeal process

  1. The tournament will be held in a 1v1 format.
  2. The rank range for this team tournament will be 5k-10k BWS. There will be no rank buffer. See "What is BWS?" for more information about BWS.
  3. There will be a badge appeal process. See the "Badge Appeal" section for more information
  4. BWS ranks are locked at the end of the registration period.
  5. Players who are above rank 10k are still allowed to register and play in the tournament provided that their BWS rank after badge appeals is within the 5k-10k rank range at the end of the registration period. The same applies to players below rank 5k.
  6. Registration is international.
  7. The tournament will be played in Head-to-Head, ScoreV2 with a double-elimination bracket.
  8. It is mandatory that all players join the Discord server! This is where we will coordinate all matches and important tournament information. Failure to join the Discord server will result in a disqualification from the tournament.
  9. Staff members will not be allowed to play except streamers and commentators.
  10. All players will be screened by osu!support. Any player that does not pass screening will not be allowed to play in this tournament.

Schedule is subject to change with reason. Please join the Discord server for schedule updates.

Reschedules
  1. If you need to reschedule a match, please do so at least 24 hours before your scheduled match to be guaranteed a reschedule.
  2. Rescheduled times should be given in UTC+0.
  3. Players should first contact their opponent to work out a reschedule. If you can’t figure something out or if the opposing player does not respond, please contact a tournament coordinator.
  4. Please be mindful of the original schedule when rescheduling. Eg. Don’t try to schedule a semi-finals match ten minutes before the finals.
  5. If a reschedule has been agreed upon, please send confirmation to the designated reschedule channel as a screenshot.

If more than 32 players sign up, qualifier lobbies will be held. Players will play through the qualifier pool in a specified play order and will play the pool once. Qualifier seeding will be based on your overall performance in qualifiers.
The qualifier pool will consist of 4 NM maps, 2 HD maps, 2 HR maps, and 2 DT maps. NM1 of qualifiers is estimated to be 6*.

The bracket stages will be formatted as follows:
  1. RO32 and RO16: BO9, one ban per player
  2. Quarterfinals and Semifinals: BO11, one ban per player
  3. Finals and Grand Finals: BO13, two bans per player
The pool size of each pool is as follows:
  1. RO32 and RO16: 5 NM / 2 HD / 2 HR / 3 DT / TB
  2. Quarterfinals and Semifinals: 5 NM / 3 HD / 3 HR / 3 DT / TB
  3. Finals and Grand Finals: 6 NM / 4 HD / 4 HR / 4 DT / TB
The estimated difficulty of the NM1 map for each round of the bracket stage is:
Pool difficulty
  1. RO32: 5.9*
  2. RO16: 6.1*
  3. Quarterfinals: 6.25*
  4. Semifinals: 6.4*
  5. Finals: 6.55*
  6. Grand Finals: 6.7*
Please keep in mind that these are estimated difficulties of the NM1 map for each pool. The pooling team has the right to adjust the difficulty of the pools based on player performance and feedback.

If there are less than 32 players at the conclusion of qualifiers, we will skip the RO32 matches and go directly to the RO16. In this scenario, the top 16 players from qualifiers will advance. The pool difficulty currently listed will remain the same with the RO16 having an estimated NM1 difficulty of 6.1*.

Qualifier Procedures
  1. The referee will invite players to the qualifier lobby at least five minutes before the scheduled start time. If the referee does not invite players by the start time, please ping the referee. If after another five minutes the referee does not respond, please ping the referee role in the #tourney-general Discord text channel.
  2. Players will play through the pool once in order.
  3. If a player misses a map or disconnects during a map, they will have one opportunity to replay the map at the end of the qualifier lobby.

Bracket Stage Procedures
  1. The referee will invite both players to their lobby at least five minutes before the scheduled start time. If the referee does not invite players by the start time, please ping the referee. If after another five minutes the referee does not respond, please ping the referee role in the #tourney-general Discord text channel.
  2. Each player will have one warmup that is less than 4 minutes in length. Players can choose to skip their warmup.
  3. After warmups, players will roll. The higher roll will pick first and ban second. The lower roll will pick second and ban first.
  4. The referee has the option to enforce a timer of 120 seconds for players to ban and pick a map.
  5. When both players have readied up, the referee will start the match with a ten second countdown. The referee has the option to enforce a timer of 90 seconds for players to ready up and will also have the option to force start the match with a ten second countdown after the initial 90 seconds have elapsed.
  6. Players alternate picks until winner is determined or the last possible match of a set is to be played, in which case the tiebreaker will be played. The winner of the tiebreaker will win the match.

Rules
As a reminder, all players are expected to adhere to and follow the osu! Community Rules and In-Game Chat rules. Failure to do so will result in a disqualification from the tournament.
  1. Be excellent to each other. Don’t be rude toward the referee or your opponent.
  2. If you fail to show up 10 minutes after the scheduled time, you will forfeit the match.
2a. For qualifier lobbies, if a player misses their scheduled qualifier lobby without prior notice, they will be allowed to reschedule to a different qualifier lobby. This can only happen once. If a player misses their second qualifier lobby, they will be disqualified from the tournament.
2b. If a player joins their qualifier lobby late, each map missed will have a submitted score of 0. Players will be allowed to replay missed maps at the end of the lobby.
  3. Please have your bans and picks prepared in order to not waste time. If deemed necessary, the referee may enforce a timer. If you don’t pick a map before the timer runs out, the point of that pick will go to the other player and the pick will be terminated.
  4. Failed scores count. Because of this, the no-fail (NF) modification will not be used.
  5. There will be no freemod (FM) pool. However, the tiebreaker will be played with players having the option to play with any combination of HD, HR, EZ, and FL. Playing the tiebreaker with a mod is not required. EZ scores will be doubled.
  6. If a player disconnects before the 30 second mark or before 1/4 of the map has progressed, whichever comes first, the map will be replayed. This can happens once per player per match.
  7. If a player disconnects after the 30 second mark or 1/4 of the map has progressed, whichever comes first, the disconnected player will lose the map.
  8. If a player disconnects at any point near the map completion, their score at the time of disconnection will count if there is reliable evidence that the score exists. Examples of reliable evidence can include, but are not limited to: a registered local score showing the time-stamp of the play, a stream/video/screenshot of the score prior to disconnecting, a referee in the lobby who has access to live scores, the score being submitted in the IRC client.
  9. Referees will not ask players to make decisions regarding any of the match rules.

The referees will be trusted to make reasonable decisions on a case-by-case basis when each situation presents itself. If a situation is not listed in the rules, the referee will be allowed to make a judgement on the situation based on common-sense, logic, and/or the available evidence.

  1. Short for Badge Weighted Seeding, BWS is a tournament-minded seeding method intended to provide a more accurate ranking and seeding of players and to enforce rank restrictions based on the number of tournament badges a player has.
  2. BWS essentially artificially "ranks up" players based on the number of badges they have.
  3. In terms of how much players rank up per badge, each badge is worth more than the previous badge.
  4. The formula used for BWS is as follows:

rank^(0.9937^(badges^2))

Remember that BWS is not intended to reflect solo play skill.

Please see this forum post from Kron05 for a more detailed explanation of badge appeals.

The idea of using a badge appeal system in this tournament is to allow players who want to appeal a profile badge that does not accurately reflect their current skill level to have the opportunity to do so. In order to appeal an osu!standard badge, you must have ranked up past 55% of the upper rank limit of the badge. Additionally, each appealed badge must be accompanied by a forum post of the tournament. Hosts are not responsible for hunting down forum posts from previous tournaments. Random team tournament badges follow the same rules for badge appeals as all other osu!standard badges. Non-osu!standard badges do not need to be appealed as they will not count towards your BWS rank.

If you have questions about this, please consult the forum post from Kron05 first, and if you are still confused, feel free to contact a Host.
