Tablet: Hovering vs. Dragging & Active Area

I just got a tablet and it's a lot harder than I expected to control the cursor. Is it better to hover or drag the tablet pen? And is using a bigger or smaller area better?
Mithos
Hovering causes longer tablet life span and less drag, but is difficult for some to do.

Active area goes two ways. You can have a small area for speed but lose a noticeable amount of accuracy (enough to make you miss notes), or you can go closer to full area and have the accuracy with less speed and more strain on your wrists (at first). I suggest starting small and getting bigger as you get used to it.

Hover is the better way to go. Might take a bit to get used to but trust me you won't notice after a week or so.
You get a longer tablet lifespan like Mithost said and you'll be able to spin faster and have smoother control across the screen.

As far as area goes I suggest you play whatever you find comfortable. I find a bigger area gives you more control and feels more natural and less cramped then a very small area, but that's just me.

I've tried hovering, but see the problem I have is that my hands keep shaking and my cursor jumps everywhere.

Oh, and any tips on how to hold the pen?

Drag/hover, whichever you are comfortable with
Use an area you are comfortable with
Hold the pen in a position you are comfortable with

this grip has proved itself as effective

bigger tablet area = better accuracy
hover = bigger lifespan on the tablet

Hovering is the best way but i also put it down on some parts to stablize and because im used to from playing tapping. If your cursor is shacking means the transition of your movement to your cursor is very high and too fast. Find a setting that fit for you, change tablet area and or decrease game window size to make it more stable to your preference

If you want to try small active area prepare to feel pain

That goes both ways.... My years of experience as a chronic fapper is the only reason I can master my tablet's full active area of 12x18 inches on insanes.

Two of the best aimers, cookiezi and niko- hold their pen pretty upright:

It's easier to aim, spin and jump this way.

I'm a dragger. I'm guessing it would be better to hover...

Hover for me

For me: Dragging while aiming on streams, hovering while doing jumps.
Just try both styles out, if you're worried about your tablet lifespan then start hovering.

I hover, and i use a small area because my wrists hurt for the larger ones plus i'm lazy :p but it's really the preference of the user. And regarding the shaking, set your sensitivity to 1.0 or it'll shake, if that makes it slow just make the area smaller or use window instead of full screen
