So basically i've never used any skin, always sticked with the base skin that comes with the game, didn't really have any problems with it, managed to get all the way to rank 3ksomething but i've always been told I could go much much further with a skin, although i tried playing with a few skins a couple of times i didn't really like it so i haven't really given it time to get accostumed to it thinking people were exaggerating and no way it could make me improve that much.
But still, I'm curious about what other players (on a high level of playing) think about it so i can see if i should really give it a serious try and enough time to get used to it

Its just a matter of what you can and cant read. if you can read the default skin well, theres no real reason to change it unless theres a discernable issue youre having thats caused by it. That being said theres also no harm in trying out other skins to see if theres a setup that you might like more.

Consider trying an arrow skin or a different bar skin- maybe its something you'll enjoy

Uh as the default skin can get distracting and make maps harder to do. Most skins here are used to help solve that problem

shouldnt really matter, tho it's ugly as hell

the note size of the default skin can prolly be an issue and m a y keep you from improving at a certain point, but you can defo use default skin, just adjust some stuff first so it's actually bearable, especially note size, otherwise it can be tiring for the eyes from being 2 small

Yeah, the primary effect of picking a skin is finding a specific note shape and size that works well for you. Some people have trouble reading bars, so opt for arrows, or circles instead. Some people need much wider notes, and so pick skins with wider lanes/notes. The other consideration is lane colors. Some skins intentionally make each lane a different color, or have some kind of color scheme that makes notes next to each other have noticeably different colors, allowing the player to discern which lane a note is in using color rather than other visual cues. The white and pink coloration of the default skin does a fairly poor job in regards to lane disambiguation.

There are other minor things, like the height from the bottom of the screen that the receptor images take up, but beyond that, it's simply personal preference.

Thanks for the quick replies,

To be honest now that I think of it, I never actually get to properly read the notes, it might sound a bit weird but it's like puerly instinctive, I just watch them fall down and my fingers just move by themselves without me really processing what key I should be pressing.
Nevertheless what (I guess) bothers me with the default skin is, as most of you guys mentioned the width of the notes and the fact that there's no real box that would define the optimal timing to press the key. Because of that per se I feel like i'm missing alot when it comes to precision and that might be what's stopping making it harder to hit those coloured 300s since i'm purely relying on the rythm of the song and instinct, sometimes I hit them sometimes I don't, plus it does get a bit harder with higher difficulty maps, sometimes I can't even read the patterns and i just go banana on them, allow me to go a bit off-topic but I'd like to mention I play on a ridiculously low speed (21 fixed), I'm not sure but I think that it's the speed that's actually making it hard to read the patterns on higher rating maps or even get the coloured 300s on any other map for that matter, I feel like I should really opt for a higher fixed speed but i've played on 22 for so long it feels discouraging whenever I try going faster but ironically enough, long ago I used to play on 14 fixed and got to #8xxx ish but then it was mandatory for me to go on a higher speed, the thing is I really don't remember how I managed to get accostumed to the new speed so if you guys have any tips regarding that matter it would be really appreciated

So, it's actually good that you're hitting notes instinctively. If you need to think about hitting them, you won't have enough time to actually read harder songs.

As for timing, the best way to practice timing is to stick to songs you can at least S, and work on improving those scores.

Scroll speed really only matters when things get too visually dense for you to read, and you need to spread the notes out more. The key to increasing speed is to increase it slowly. Go up by 1, play that until it feels 'right', then go up again, until you reach the desired speed, or until you no longer have issues with the visual density of the maps you used to have trouble reading.
