[Archived] Question about osu! supporter tag and name changing

Problem details: So I'm planning to buy osu! supporter in the future to get a free name change. However, the name I'm planning to get is owned by a restricted account that has been inactive for a long time. Do I need to contact osu! support in order to get this username, or can I simply change it right away with the osu! supporter tag free name change?

You can check whether that account's name is open to claim on the osu!store's respective page: store/products/32

There is a policy for osu! name changes on wiki/en/Help_centre/Account#take-existing-username . In short:
  1. A username with no plays and not logged in for at least 6 months can be taken.
  2. A username with plays on any modes will be open to take with a certain function to determine when is that username is taken.
  3. A username with ranked beatmaps or profile badges cannot be taken.
