at what point would you consider a player to be “average”

the medieval urge to compare myself to other people in a self deprecating way has come once again

basically what at what point would you think someone is at an average skill level (whether that being able to play a certain sr comfortably or a ranking range)

im pretty much asking this cause i feel like where i’m at rn is below average and like i should be at a higher skill range (for reference im at around 940000 right now, i can play low to mid 3* pretty good, ive been playing standard for 4 or so months, and that’s it)

I started playing standard for 2 months, then quit to play mania
by the end of the 2 months (about 50 hours of playtime), I could consistently do 5* and was doing low - mid 6*

The point i would consider someone at an average skill level is when they can comfortably do a high 4 star, or FC a 4 star, or do a 5 star with ease, and no struggling. I think 3* is when a l o t of peopel give up because it takes such a long time to get out of it.

My recommendation would be to just take the jump into 4 stars as soon as possible. You will come accustomed to the AR and density of 4 stars and from then on your progression just goes to lightspeed and even for a slow improver it will take a month at most to move onto 5*

The jump between 3* to 4* is the hardest
4* - 5* ez
5* - 6* pretty hard
6* - 7* very hard
7* - 8* very hard
8* - 9* impossible

Considering you only have 30 hours of playtime i think the only real piece of advice i can give you is
play more

I don't like looking at sr for these things becuz sr is so unreliable.

Anyways it seems that you kinda wanna check out average rank for osu players,i saw a method to do this before if you wanna check the average player's rank who are currently online. First, go to the online users screen on osu, then sort by rank and scroll to the exact middle.
From what it looks like for me uhh 370k? Maybe? Oh well im pretty bad at these things so lets round it off to 350k-450k

If we're going by no. of accounts, I'd say something like a million or so. Could probably be 300k-100k for active players.

(osu! Standard) 20k-200k I'd call an average player, by pure gameplay quality standards.

That basically means players, that play 5* and maybe low 6* maps at the very least decently well, but don't have to be really good to reach that skill level.

Since the skillcap increases nearly exponentially in star ratings (imo especially beginning above ~6.5*), I'd say that is the cutoff point of people, that either can't stream, can't read ar9+, can't do precision, etc to go further up the rankings...

Here are the results from google, but if you refer to an average active players then you could add a few hundred on top of that

So basically, 117 pp by 2021
New average players probably have a slightly higher count

Random fact: Rank to pp graph can roughly be estimated with a logarithmic function.

As for “average” player I’d say probably 5~6kpp.

Btw I went to the osu!track to see if my average PP and rank gained per hour, day, week and month was good or not... and the fact that I have more than 130k rank gain per month makes me think that I may be above average!

300k-500k for me. Ppl in those rank range could play 4* maps quite comfortably. That means they can do basic jump, three note bursts and maybe a bit of longer bursts. They're the ppl who's just checking osu! out. And got a hang it. About half of them would be inactive players. Another quarter would quit w cuz they cant fc padoru. and the remaining grinds to become higher 6 digits

Yeah it's because I'm a 6 digit and I think they calculate that based on my number of ranks gained over the days so they make a prediction of what it would be like if I played like this every day for a month. It's probably not true, I'm not sure.

Uf it's really predictions from they make that stuff up, then what about going on a pp farming spree and getting the most amount of pp you can? Or you barely earned any? Wouldn't it be inaccurate?

I am getting back into a game that I used to play, which would maybe result in my play count dropping by 1000-1500.
Guess it is a good thing though, I haven't really put any thought into what I want to do in this game other than to just have fun

Yeah I think that's for the best. I burned out playing mania and quit shortly thereafter. Having fun is definitely the best way to play the game.
