Not to sound derogatory, but I personally hate arguments like this.

Not every map has to have a difficulty perfectly suited to your skill level. Unless there have been absolutely no new maps with an enjoyable difficulty for you in the past month or so, then I feel as though you don't have a right to complain. Just because the beatmaps on the first page don't have a difficulty that suits your tastes doesn't mean that every recent map is terrible. If you can't play a difficulty, then use the frustration from failing it to improve yourself and be able to beat it instead of complaining to everyone else. Nowadays maps are getting ranked at a rate of almost a few every day, and you'll probably find one to suit your tastes in one of them. If not, then just fall back on the old classics that you admit you love; a map you'll like will come around eventually. I was personally disappointed that Wahrheit didn't have a more insane difficulty reminiscent of the SM stepchart, but my first thought wasn't, "GAWD stop accommodating the N00bz", it was, "I wonder if I can make a map for Wahrheit for Approval". Please realize that, as osu!'s playerbase grows, the harder it will be to satisfy everyone; the difficulty ceiling will certainly get higher, meaning maps will have to cover a far wider range of skill levels while keeping to a reasonable number of difficulties.

Also:
OMG maps nowadays are sooooo easy. What, are beat mappers getting so darned lazy and not wanting to make an insane for the higher-tiered players? Get off your lazy butts and give us some interesting maps already! These beatmaps nowadays are so BORING and EASY. What happened to maps like Candy Galy or Mei that ACTUALLY CHALLENGED us?! Have you beatmappers completely forgotten that there are higher-level players out there that didn't join yesterday?
Remco32
Use Easy mode and stop complaining.
Also, if someone maps a map that you don't like, that person isn't directly an asshole...
Pasonia
Rather than complain about the state of the maps, and how difficult it is, why not just raise your effing game?

I think everyone's got the right to map the way they want it, as long as they fit the 2 difficulties minimum rule. A case of sourgrapes for the man who made the thread perhaps, just raise your game and play along.

Nobody has ever dictated (notice the keyword?) what others should map, and I think it's for the best we all keep it this way.

Your example is a collab map where each mapper makes their own difficulty. Each mapper in this case wants to showcase their talents.
That sounds like a sloppy collab, to me. Collabs simply mean more than one mapper offer their hand to an overall package; that doesn't grant it immunity from any rules, by any means. The person in charge of the beatmap/collab should be the one organizing who will be shooting for what difficulty. Showcasing one's talents is good and all, but it is not limited to making the trickiest or most intricate beatmap you can.

I may be so bold as to say someone who can make a fun Normal is a better beatmapper than someone who can only make a fun Insane, plain and simple.

Re: subject title - these beatmappers aren't assholes, though. They're just either inexperienced, not as adept, or lazier than other mappers.
Real1
I agree. I think we need easier yet not boring maps to have more players stay in the game!

Oh, I'm not saying there are too many very hard maps, I would just like if they had better Normal and Easy difficulties as well.

[Advertising]
I try to have every player in mind when I make a map.
My maps always have an easy and a challenging normal. As well as a hard. USUALLY my hards are somewhat "easy". That's not always the case though.
[/Advertising]
Mystearica
I think Hard should be Hard and Insane should be Insane, enough said about that.

As for Normal, recently I really haven't seen any Normals that were too hard to be honest.

But if you ask me, the Normal difficulty is only there so that the map in question can be ranked anyway. I kind of see your point but at the same time I don't see such a big deal out of it.

You can also start mapping yourself and show people how you want to map, maybe they'll adapt to your style if they liked it?

I usually played maps that were not my level and failed all of them but i seemed to have fun. Dunno but that's just me.

PS map something and get it ranked

Now for a real response.

A few months ago, say in May or June, the difficulty situation was really bad. Seriously, it was horrible.

Thankfully, it's not like that anymore. A cursory glance of the Ranked Beatmaps pages will tell you that.

Now there is a good mix of easy maps, easier maps, harder maps, hard maps, harder hards, and batshit crazy maps. Not sure how this change came about of people making easier easiest difficulties, but I like this change a lot.

BTW, some mappers are assholes. Lots of people like them because of that, believe it or not. No complaints here; I like some of their maps! They can be fun when you can handle them.

BTW, I rewrote this post so many times. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this posting thing!

Topic is definately misleading.

I'm #5000 somewhere... And I can FC some Hard difficulties.

Give a break to the people who are mapping for the community and dedicate their time to do it.

Though people here are very diverse in playing skill, change doesn't happen because ONE person says so.

I'm not saying that every single 'hard' or 'insane' beat map is terrible and unfair. Some, well, a lot of them are really good.
And its not that if I find an extremely hard map I dont just nag and complain about it, I do try to find beatmaps that suit my skill level. And so far that has been working quite nicely.

But you see, that collab beatmap I was talking about, happens to be one of my favorite songs. And since it has a boring normal dificulty and the rest is totaly insane, I kinda lose any and all chances of ever playing that song and having fun.
So thats kinda the reason I even bothered to voice my 'displeasure'

I've also noticed a dificulty setting called "Alazy" around some of my Favorite maps "Koi No Uta" and "Don't Say Lazy" for instance. The "Alazy" maps are marked as "Insane" and "Hard" And yet I somehow manage to S-rank them.
Odd.
And usualy the map right after that "Alazy" dificulty is #$%*ing impossible.
Can you say, "Dificulty Spike"? Seriously, I dont mind hard beat maps, if I cant beat it I just dont play it. But I'd really apreciated it if the dificulty was apropriotly getting harder, not "Easy, normal, Fun Hard, OMGWTFHAX THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE" -.- Like seriously...didnt miss a single note in the last dificulty...cant last two seconds in the one after that...I call bull.

Also I noticed that the dificulty ranking system is just broken all the way to hell.
I mean, most of the songs in my list are 4,5 stars in dificulty, but some are ether too easy, some are just right, and some are just completely unfair, full of traps. I'm guessing its impossible to base the dificulty on how the beats are placed? Only counts on the HP drain and stuff like that?

And to the person that said "The Top 500 is getting better, beatmaps are getting harder" Sooo, basicaly what you're saying that eventualy only people in the top 500 will be able to play the maps? And we 2000+ will just be forgoten and left in the dust?
That kinda sounds like it would destroy the entire osu comunity....since a large portion of players are 2000+...

Kinda offtopic, but some confusing and crazy maps (Cross Time for example) are really fun once you get the hang of it.

You can't complain about something like this... mappers can map like they want. It's up to you if you want to play it or not, you can rate the map a 1 to punish them. ;)
If you are in disagreement with some map and you really like the song, you can remap it as you want. There are no rules against that.

I agree with MegaManEXE. If you cant play Crazy maps, gain skill. I was playing one map 1000+ times to be able to FC it. (1105 plays - Hyadain - CRASH!! (Let's do it) [Burai's Insane]). Also, what you say is that every player should make 10 difficulities for you to play more than once? Nah. I was playing year to gain skills to be able to play every map (song) i like. There was a lot Normal, crazy, totally impossible maps there. Players that like crazy maps play them. Those that cant gaining skills to play them. Am i not rite? :?

SPOILER
How about this, Easy, Normal, Hard, Insane, Epic?

A difficulty name called Epic surely would differentiate itself from just being Insane and actually make possible for impossible-to-clear maps for anyone not within Cyclone ability range? Then again, just by talking about this here we might be enraging the thread starter, so let's just leave it at this.

Also, I agree with Lyon. In fact, that was what I was saying, gain some skills and play the game, instead of griping about it while getting responses from players that either disagree with you or just plain trolls you =p

Take it this way; instead of screaming at mappers for hard difficulties, improve on your game and then chew the mappers out for not making the maps hard enough. As a player, if you can end up doing that you're well on your way to succeed. If you decide to remain at that level you're playing now and are satisfied to be there, then so be it, but as you can see now there's more naysayers to your griping than people who agree with you, so what's that about getting yourself in front of a firing squad for?

The only problem I see with that is that on the beatmap listing you have [E][N][H][I] and then another [E]. Obviously it would be different colored than the Easy [E] and it would be at the end after the [I] but it might confuse people, I dunno. I don't put anything past people on the internet anymore.

lol @ MaxCrisis: I failed Koi no Uta, I'm sorry. It was my first map, I know it sucks.

I'll remap it sometime just for you.

But I do agree with the above in that you should just practise and get better. I used to be terribad at streams and after playing only insane stream maps for a while, I'm muuuuuuuch better now with them, and I absolutely love them.

It doesn't take that long to better if you keep at it.

Nice exaggeration.

I personally don't think it's much to ask that most maps include at least one difficulty that's more-or-less in the range of EBA/OTO. Also, nothing is more lame than a map with an Easy that's just really, really easy and than a Hard that's just really, really hard with nothing in between. It's a sloppy practice that makes just about no sense.

At the same time, I don't take issue with maps that go from a hard normal to a harder hard to a bullshit insane. As long as there's a middle ground, in this case the harder hard, and the difficulty isn't forced onto a song that might not fit for extra intense maps, I don't think one should complain. After all, I seem to remember that a lot of people had difficulty beating Inis boss maps such as Ready Steady Go and Jumpin Jack Flash, even on the easier difficulties. Songs like those which are rhythmically exciting warrant mapping of a more difficult nature, and it's up to the player to step their game up and successfully face the challenge.

The problem is, I find EBA Breezin' to be incredibly difficult, and Cruisin' is pretty tough too. The "harder" the maps become, the easier they are to play, so its pretty much impossible for me to make an "easy" map.

EBA's Breezin' (as well as OTO's Easy) can be misleading rhythmically. Notes often look like they're meant to be tapped earlier or later than they should be, and are often placed on more obscure beats than the simple 4th note or whatever makes more sense in emphasizing a song lyric. We're used to harder songs, so we want to tap out what feels right, often making us tap a circle on the eigth note before it's supposed to be tapped. I can't always condone Inis' mapping style, as I've always personally found their Insanes to be way too easy and their lesser difficulties to be a little weird. Thing about osu! is, there are several non-Inis ways one can make an easy or normal chart that will be enjoyable to a less experienced player and at least sensible to (appreciated by) the more hardcore players. Several mapping techniques applicable to harder maps can also be used in easier maps to a lesser degree, it's all about knowing how to simplify the rhythm correctly.

yeah i found the easy ver. of the last song of OTO2, has lots offbeats so its hard, harder than hard, harder than insane.

but anyways im still rank 2000+ (nearly 1999 though) but when im still on the lower rank (3000+) i often plays hard & insane diffs. even if i fail lots and lots of time i found playing like that actually increases my skills drastically. so hard and insane diffs are not really a problem for me to get some high A's (or B's)

BTW how about Extreme [X] after insane?

NVM that begins with [E] too im running out of ideas :?
aRiskOfRain
http://osu.ppy.sh/b/38270 (sorry sushi)

The 'easy' in this is nearly 3 and a half stars - which is classed as normal. I try to make normals somewhere around 3 stars. Its next difficulty is Bassmaster! - Which is classed as insane! The idea that this map got ranked without any kind of bridging difficulty is - within itself - completely insane.
Jarby
How about you look at difficulties available for maps by star rating before you download them?
Mashley
The star difficulty system is very often wrong, though.
http://osu.ppy.sh/s/5737, for example. [That's Better!] is marked as Insane on the listing when it, well, clearly isn't.

Hi,

I replyd to a useless topic.

You can't expect people to map what you want. You go map it then.
If the mappers want to map a very very easy, and a very very hard, then it's up to BATS to rank/not rank now isn't it?
They are after all the BATS here, so THEY'LL decide, not u.
If you think it should have a normal, then you go make it. Fu, saying we have to make a normal inbetween bah. You go make it?

Quick thought before I go to sleep: people like you (MaxCrisis) are why I don't want my maps modded by people who aren't skilled enough to play them. You all go "OMGOMG BAD MAP ASLDKGFJNFGKJFDNGFDGLKNDAFG", while good players are all "this is awesome, Rena !"

The thing is, where is this discussion going? Anyway, I think yes, we mapped a lot of enjoyable hard map and few enjoyable normal map, and almost no enjoyable easy. I agree for the map is too hard, the problem is, WHY YOU PLAY IT? You should look for easier or enjoyable map, the way to get an enjoyable easy map is, like someone said.

1. Map it yourself.
2. Advertise your map in your signature, and in the #mod.
3. Go to modding queues, and request mod, but don't spam your beatmap in modding queues, and don't be a 'Just post then go away' READ. THE. RULES. (Maximal is 5 request)
4. Feeling your map is now perfect? Go PM BAT, but read their policy of BAT-ing first. Feeling nervous? Just PM THEM!!! It's not like we 100% sure that the BAT will Mod, blacklist, or blah blah blah.
5. You don't want to map? Have it your way for being a noob forever :)
