I personally dislike the way the Xbox dashboard works as I find it laggy, unresponsive, and kinda confusing, hard to find what you want. The PSN store is much better then the market place in that it just straight up tells you how much money you pay, and I can find what I want with ease.
Disregarding that though, another plus to Xbox is that my brother and I can be signed in at the same time.

Also Seibei, you forgot about Valkyria Chronicles, granted the series moved to PSP, but the first one was still an all time great.

I bought Disgaea 3 before I had a PS3 ={

As much as I like the feel of the controller I hate that the face buttons are like the SNES buttons but mixed up; X is Y, Y is X, A is B and B is A

I grew up with a SNES controller, changing everything around is a dick move. My biggest gripe with the 360 controller is literally in how they name their buttons. LB, LT is another thing I haven't gotten used to.

I have been playing Costume Quest and I'm actually surprised by how difficult the game is if you don't abuse stun tactics. I've been in fights where victory hinges on what order the enemies attack the allies in. I have about a 98% success rate with input commands, which oughta be enough, but it isn't.

The adult humour in the game really caught me off guard. Because it's designed to look like a kids game I was expecting it to be just a light-hearted kiddy jrpg but Double Fine seemed determined to cram as many innuendos and double-entendres as they could. Even some of the overt stuff is taboo; not a lot of games threaten to kill a five year old child in his sleep.

I'm not sure if the DLC expansion is worth the money, though. The game by its own admission seems awfully short; I started playing it yesterday and I'm in the third area, which based on the quest log appears to be the last area. By extension the Expansion pack is about 33% of the length of the original game, but I dropped about 7.50 on it and the expansion is 5. By full price that seems like a 1:1 value per play ratio, but the game does not feel like it is worth 15 dollars. 7.50, sure, but not 15.

Deathspank 2 may have been worth the 15 I didn't pay for it. That game's awfully long for a downloaded title.

You just gotta use the right battle stamps and the right costumes. And the Jack O' Lantern costume has the best special attack once you get it, but he's gotta attack first to do the best damage. Then you follow with a Missile Barrage and kill everybody. And the DLC isn't really that short. It's split up into about three areas, I think. There's only one boss in it though, but you get some new Battle Stamps, a new bag (which glitches like a bitch, actually), and some decent new costumes. The last boss in that DLC seriously almost whooped my ass though. He wasn't messing around.
Mogsy
The final boss of the Costume Quest DLC was kinda an unexpected difficulty spike, it took me a few tries to beat it.

It is very possible to beat the entire game without using stun tactics, though, but I ended up using stun tactics in the DLC to put the game on e-z modo. In the standard game, I didn't.
awp
The DLC was really short. Like, an hour. In all honesty, I don't think it was worth the money, but I didn't like that my completion wasn't 100%.

The last boss ruined me the first time (AOE that hits for 900 is a bit unreasonable) but then I flipped a couple battle stamps around (stun is useless) changed a costume and didn't even break a sweat the second time around. It was actually disappointingly easy.

I'd been tempted by the idea (I paid the full 15 for the first one on PC already) but was kind of hoping for a 50% off sale.

But an 80% off sale will do.

Yeah. It really sucked for it to end on a cliffhanger like that. But then again, I don't know if I could take anymore punishment. Those last bosses don't really fuck around. Especially in the first game.

Anyway, I got Bulletstorm and de Blob 2 today. While I do like Bulletstorm, I've had an awfully hard time playing it cause I just get this urge to play de Blob 2 instead. There's just something about collecting random shit...

If you use Attack Down items his attacks do 1 damage. I actually found him very easy. Also, when spamming Hot Toddys etc throw an Attack up on Gabe. He's fast enough that he can do a standard attack for every Hot Toddy that You and Tycho throw, so you can drop him down to like 20k HP before the battle even actually starts.

It's been 2 1/2 years since I played that game. I have no fucking idea what you're even talking about anymore. I just remember that I didn't like getting the trophy for beating that boss without using healing items.
awp
Oh, I got that on my second try. First time was poorly managed and I had to use healing items to prevent Tycho from dying, but the No-Heal trophy is actually pretty easy.

I'm not 100% sure you can get the "use all combat items" trophy against the last boss. It wouldn't pop for me, but it's possible I never used the 100% heal item. I also thought the trophy only referred to the items that damaged, and I had to create a new file and play up to the evil gate just outside French- Mime-Kthulu to get dynamite.

I'm now plugging away at the second episode and it seems to be more fun than the first one. It's also nice that they solved a few design issues that Episode One suffered from.

Bulletstooooorm! Lemme just say, guys, the demo for Bulletstorm absolutely did not do the game any justice. It's like how the Dead Space 1 demo was completely off-target. It doesn't capture the game at all. And it doesn't even have any good weapons in the demo.
awp
I'm keen to get Bulletstorm - Painkiller was a blast, and Bulletstorm's ad campaign was so good they deserve the sale even if the game is mediocre. But it's like, 60 bux on steam right now. I'll wait until it falls to 30 or something. It's not like the game will get worse over time.

Just picked up 3D Dot Game Heroes yesterday and I'm gonna be taking it back at my earliest convenience because fuck that game. I just spent an hour trying to figure my way back through the bullshit sand maze puzzle shit, then I get killed by a blue dragon 2 feet away from where I was trying to go. Then of course my last spawn point was on the other side of the fucking world. Ridiculous.

Don't judge a game because of your inability to plan ahead. Sleeping bags can create a spawn point wherever you use them, and if your spawn point was on the other side of the world, you didn't spend the night at the desert inn right before the maze, which is easy to navigate if you go by the cacti positioning. An NPC even tells you how to go through it.

Hell, even then, you could just use a Wind Wing, which most standard merchants sell, to get back to where you were. Blue dragons are random spawn, anyway, you were just a victim of bad luck.

I personally love the game, even if it gets a bit ridiculous at points. Nothing is really handed to you, it feels like classic Zelda in all the right ways.

Also, I've got MvC3, but I might return it to Gamefly once I have enough money to actually buy it. I would be more into it right now if I had the time to play it. The next game I'll get Gamefly to send me might be Bulletstorm, but we'll see.
awp
Really, I heard 3D Dot Game Heroes didn't live up to its expectations. I'm not one to give a flying duck about someone else's opinions, but my brother's a pretty good judge of what I might like. Mind you, it's only a matter of time before that game winds up on the 10 dollar rack in the local pawn shop.

I didn't want to use a sleeping bag next to the desert because that would've defeated the purpose. I used one in front of the next temple that I accidentally found so I could kill myself after I had progressed the story. I left the desert temple to begin with cause that was my stopping point one day, then I forgot what I was doing in the morning and left it before realizing I wasn't done there. So that's why I was trying to get back in the first place. And I can't use a Wind Wing to get back to a temple, I could've only gone back to the inn, which meant I'd have to do the fucking sand puzzle shit again, which wasn't gonna happen. And I can't be pissed to talk to every single NPC to see if they finally have something useful to tell me. And I didn't decide the game sucked just because I got hit with that bullshit dragon, I just wasn't having any fun at all the whole time I was playing it. It's really annoying how you lose all of your sword's power just because you lost half a heart from some cheap shot from some off-screen enemy or whatever. I really loved the 2D Zelda games. The only thing this game didn't copy from Zelda was the fun.
Mafiamaster
Beat Hyperdimension Neptunia yesterday and I must say, ending was unexpected. It left quite a lot unanswered too which doesn't help. I didn't really want it to end either. =( Now I'm rolling through everything on new game+ (the story dungeons to be exact). There was more dialogue than gameplay which was fine for me on the first playthrough but now it's just a huge burden as I go through it again. Overall, this game seems pretty easy to plat, got 73% before finishing. The rest of the trophies don't look too bad to get (unlike Trinity Universe's). Anyways, the gameplay is fine even though the game does slow down considerably fps-wise during most battles. But a major flaw in the game that I had was the "auto" button during dialogues. It didn't proceed naturally like it was suppose to. It would literally sit there for 10+ seconds before going onto the next dialogue. So doing the standard 'X' button to proceed was the only other way. (There was the skip button but I'd miss out on the story!). English voices aren't bad at all either!

(Random): I realized that Neptune was pantless after the third day of playing.

I haven't played either yet, but if Neptunia is anything like I think it is I'll hate it to all ends. I can't stand bad JRPGs they become a tedious chore for me.
Shame too, because when I first heard about the game I thought it'd be brilliant.

Just got Ar tonelico Qoga today. Planning on playing it tonight. I'm particularly interested in the hymns and the device located at the bottom of the screen during combat. Anyone else planning on getting it / got it? Nevermind, I know you guys don't have it, lol.
Ivalset
I've considered getting it, but I hear it's just a real letdown compared to 2.

I'll probably end up grabbing it when it drops in price a bit.

Also the sexualism has gone so far off the deep end that I'll be embarrassed to pick it up in a store, so I'll probably order it online.
Mafiamaster
Ah, I wouldn't know about the other games since this is the first one I've played.

It was a real eye opener when I first saw three layers of clothes just started disappearing off the girls.

I mean, I did watch a few gameplay battles on youtube but watching them right up in my face was a different experience.

They had only one copy at my local gamestop. The dumb thing was that it wasn't in shrink wrap so the box wasn't really in mint condition when I got it.
Ivalset
The second one is a pretty damn good game, though it is a ps2 game. I'd definitely recommend picking it up. It's a little easy, especially later in the game, but still fun.

I'm actually tempted. I dislike fighting games and never gave a damn about the Mortal Kombat series but in all fairness the game is so silly and fun. I'm sure as hell not going to fork over 60 bux for it, but if I find it in a pawn shop for 15 dollars I will in all likelihood pick it up. Also, since it's a simple, accessible, non-hardcore game, I'll actually be able to play it with friends.

Just bought Hyperdimension Neptunia on an influenced whim and must say it's pretty amusing. From what I gather it's a game based on the console war where there are many console anthropomorphisms (in the form of anime-girls, of course) and several game/game-based shout outs and references. I only got around to playing (admittedly reading/watching for the first 15 mins) for around 30 minutes but got to see the basics of the gameplay. It seems to play out like an action-RPG-visual novel with the battle system being a combo based TBS.

So far it hasn't disappointed, I'm wondering if anyone else has had a look at it.

Anon is stepping into the Sony vs GeoHot lawsuit. This is probably going to inconvenience PS3 users for a little bit (I'm not sure what impacts it will have on PSN) but hopefully by the end of it Sony will stop being such a ludicrous despot in the whole ordeal.

As far as I'm concerned, they're free to ban users from the PSN if they're playing pirated games but everything else has been a big middle finger to moving the platform forward so far. Hopefully this will fill the grave Sony's digging before it gets too deep.
Ivalset
This whole situation is pretty gay.
Pokebis
Some people are trying to get dual booting for CFW and OFW.
If that happens I hope Sony will let those users still use PSN.
I mean on OFW they'd most likely be playing legit games and would have the opportunity to continue paying for Sony's service.
I mean, you can't even pirate most PSN games and DLC. Sony would just lose sales cutting these people off.

The only reason to ban hackers is to scare people from hacking, but only people really looking for that will be able to hack since you can only hack 3.55 and under right now, so there's not much to scare other than people who don't care about PSN.

Only people I think should be banned is cheaters. And only from the specific games they cheat in. Sony is wasting their money and cutting off profits. Nice move.
Ivalset
I hope you stay banned forever, Pokebis.

Seibei4211 wrote:

I think that actually is a point in our favour (I'm reading sarcasm in this). Once the PS3 was hacked Sony went trigger happy. I did some reading from some of the hacker groups, and there is/was a program that you could run which would spoof your PS3 serial number. If you knew the serial number of someone else's PS3 and got caught cheating while running that spoofer, you could get someone else banned rather than yourself. So basically, assuming this was true, Sony wasn't trying off the bat to solve the problem but to put a bandage over it. And the bandage is made of asbestos.

What they're currently doing vs what they were doing before security was breached is far worse. According to the PS3 EULA, Sony has the right, if they deem necessary (read: if they feel like it) to push silent updates to the console without any user input/consent (the consent was in the EULA). This in itself does not appear to be a problem since the silent updates are done in a non-intrusive way, however, if something goes wrong in an update (such as power failure) there's a risk of bricking the system. So apparently, Sony can accidentally brick your system if you leave it connected. And I'm pretty sure it's also written that they take no responsibility/liability if that happens, so you're out to sea.

So it has gotten to the point where a bit of (very) bad luck could mean the equivalent of a RROD, but Anon's involvement may resolve some of the unethical practices Sony's doing right now.

On the other hand, if failed updates don't harm the system, I'm more-so okay with it. I doubt this is the case (and Sony themselves warn that the system might not power up if it is abruptly shut off during an update).

I don't see what's so difficult about a failsafe. A failed firmware update should not brick any system. The BIOS should be smart enough to check for errors and restore a backup that is on permanent storage to protect against something like that.

You can fuck your PC up, but you can't brick it. The same should apply to all current and future technology

In the case of the hackers that's like saying it's pirate's fault DRM is in games. Sure they put it in games to help prevent piracy (you'd be stupid if you think it actually does), but the fact of the matter is pirates will circumvent these systems nearly immediately and only the end user (legit) suffers. This is over-optimistic implementations from corporations that do anything but help their sales. Pirates are not the ones implementing it, however.

Sony, as a corporation, made choices to implement their own systems, hackers pushed nothing onto you. And lots of hackers aren't "assholes" many are acting upon broken promises from Sony (Other-OS support), seeking of information (finding out how the PS3 ticks), and some just want to stick-it-to-the-man (which happens to be Sony).

I don't blame Sony for trying to protect their IPs, but they've been doing it very, very wrong. But it's them doing it wrong, not the hackers.

Of course the Anonymous attacks are indeed assholery. Can't really argue that and feel bad for you there.

Anyway - I assume someone here is PS3 savvy, is there any cheap/easy way to get either screenshots or video recordings off your PS3. Ie, I play a game and want to record my boss fight or something.
Capture card comes into mind but that's probably not the cheapest nor the easiest method.

So I called my bank today because of the breach, and I got as far as "I'm calling in response to the recent Playst-" before he interrupted me. I probably could have just said "PSN" after hello and he'd have completely gotten my meaning, hah

Today I learned that my bank has a pretty awesome fraud policy in place, though, so I'm not going to lose any money even if my card gets used for something.

I learned that Sony knew about the compromise about a week before they actually informed everyone so whoever caused the breach has a huge head start on doing anything with that information. I never registered my credit card on my profile and everything except my email and password is false information so I consider myself very fortunate.

I read earlier today that people tend to only be paranoid for about 90 days after learning about something like this, so it's entirely possible that the data just isn't going to be used until people stop caring about it.

I realized earlier today that pretty much all my PSN information other than my name/email is wrong. I've moved twice since I created my account, so all that address information is useless. And since 77 million accounts have been compromised, it's probably gonna take a while before yours gets used. Every time that DB is queried, there's a 1/77000000 chance it's you (actually odds are probably higher for those of us with CC info up there)

In other news, Sony's been hit with a class action lawsuit, they hope to have PSN back up by the 30th, and with any luck they're going to try to have a better relationship with their customers from now on

Portal 2 is fucking awesome. I did some local co-op today and that was freakin' fun. It's a good feeling when you have to think about a puzzle and the solution just comes to you and it totally works. Also, I underestimated how hilarious this game is.

Got a source for this? All I've been hearing is that they hope to have "some" services up in maybe a week.

This article echos a few claims from Sony (apparently through Kotaku, but when following the source link I just get a "main page" on Kotaku, not the actual article) which suggests so:
Sony Online Entertainment says that it has a number of special events planned to thank players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms for their patience while work continues on getting PSN back up and running.

These events will commence on Saturday 30th April, although that is presumably reliant on PSN being back in action by then

though I don't care about PSN being down; nothing good is coming out of the Rock Band store these days and I've been too glued to Persona 4 to even play Portal 2 (which I don't use PSN for anyway, I'm just saiyan). So the fact that the PSN has been down for the past week or two hasn't actually affected me in any way yet.

It's 2011, you should have played Persona 4 several years ago.

You should be sharing in our collective misery.
adam2046
I still haven't gotten around to finishing Persona 3 8-) ;_;
Haven't played my PS3 in ages either thanks to my PSP...

Then get rid of all your shitty psp games and play persona 3 portable instead.

You guys disgust me.

I bought Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 for the PS2 a couple days ago, so I'm tempted to do a second run of P4 (thanks for having various branching paths, Atlus. I can't have everything can I) before cracking open P3.

Apparently the new estimate for PSN is May 3. And yet I still don't care~

Even when the PSN is up, I pretty much only use the store aspect. I've played RB2 with Rolled a few times (hey Rolled I have RB3 now just fyi) but that's mostly it for me.
Ivalset
I don't remember any significant branching paths in persona 4, unless you mean shit like basketball team/ whatever the other shitty one was.

Well, I guess you'd have to do a second run for the optional boss fight anyway.

Also, you should have played FES before P4. Actually, it probably won't be much of an issue for you to play 3 after 4, it's just lacking a few refinements from P4. And while you could technically play p3p for those improvements, you'd be missing out on cutscenes, exploring the town and the Answer (though some may say that's more of a blessing than a curse). Actually, you'd have to play p3p eventually anyway just for the female route.

Man, you have a lot of persona ahead of you.
awp
Yeah I'm gonna play them backward. I don't know the difference between P2 Innocent Sin and P2 the other one, but I've got P2IS on my PSP.

Having said that, yeah, I may well go play P3P, but I'm undecided whether I'll do that before P2 or after. We'll see how P3FES hits me. And yeah, I am referring to things like who you become intimate with (in my case it was actually two girls, and I didn't think that was allowed) and sports/arts clubs. I didn't even finish some of the social links (Yumi, Ai, Hisano, Margaret, Kanji) that I did start. Also, I never found the temperance social link. I'm guessing it's Bro Konishi, but he can really go fuck himself for all I care.

I'm still in the process of chasing Izanami in my own personal world but I've got mothra-fucking Beelzebub on my side now, so it should be even more one-sided than it already has been thus far.

Should I feel like a genius for being one step ahead of the mystery/Investigation Team, or was the game just well-written enough to be obvious, but not obvious about being obvious? I didn't use a FAQ for any of it, but I was ahead of the curve for every single one of the plot twists except that until the morning of the last abduction, I had no suspects. But man, I knew Nanako was in trouble like a week before it happened. That one was totally obvious.

If you're stupid and end up getting the bad ending, do you at least get a full dungeon out of it, or do your lousy decisions just go "oh, well, that's everything: you win!"? Because the midnight channel made it look like there was a dungeon involved. One where I could find a new Dousing Rod which I need for a Quest. That'd be kinda douchey.

Minecraft world is pretty cool.

Also, yes, I found out how to get the true ending on my own, but this was after I didn't get the true ending and read up on the Internet that I did, in fact, not get the true ending, and that you can't lock the true ending out if you get to the ending.

The ending really did feel like a candidate for the true ending, as long as you don't mind a handful of loose ends never being tied up or explained, which would have defeated the moral behind the ENTIRE GAME
Ivalset
I'm pretty sure Bro Konishi was Hanged. I think Temperance was day care mother (with annoying kid).

I think you should have started being super suspicious about halfway through, I think around Rise's affair. Then there's always the classic video game logic deduction methods, ie which characters have assets that they probably shouldn't considering their current involvement. But that's a pretty gay way to play a murder mystery and a really gay way to play games in general.

As for bad endings, you just cut to a depressing ending scene (or a scene that leaves you with questions unanswered).

Also, Ishtar owns, Trumpeter is as ridiculous as ever, and Yoshitsune is fucking broken/op as hell.
awp
Oh I didn't do Daycare either. Fuck that.

Anyhow, I got the super true ending. It was kind of funny, as I was fighting the first phase of the Truth I thought to myself, that mechanic where your allies take a mortal blow for you is actually a pretty emotional thing, game mechanics aside. They really should have put that in the final battle. And they did.

The credits are rolling right now. I'm not sure whether it's my PS2 or my burned copy of Persona 4 (the legit one's in the mail atm) but the loading time between now and the 3.5 weeks ago when I started playing have quadrupled. Hell, just two nights ago I'd cleared the game, and during the credits, the video/BGM would skip a bit, and by sheer luck, the audio ended juuust as the credits did.

Going through it again, my disc reading can't keep up with the buffer consumption worth a damn. The actual credits (the copyright Atlus 1996, 2008 message) scrolled and faded about seven minutes ago, but the PS2 is still struggling with streaming the videos/audio. It's funny, because every time the PS2 stops to read more content into the buffer, the train stops. It's gotta be a really irritating ride, that one.

I thought this thread was about the PS3. If you silly mods don't get back on topic I'm going to, uhhhhh.

No, this thread is about the Playstation 3 Club, of which we are all members.

Yeah, I talk about Wii games on here sometimes. But if someone without a PS3 came in here talking about Halo or something, then they're in the wrong thread.

besides, Persona 4 is awesome

and 3 is probably also awesome, I'll find out soon enough

Yeah, I totally believe now that Anonymous had nothing to do with this.

And anybody could have placed that there. Including disgruntled employees or hackers looking to frame.

frame would definitely be a good idea, considering the FBI is after the perp
