Technocoder, Discord Rich Presence STILL doesn't work, even despite me doing:

and yet it still doesn't wanna work.
Not sure what to suggest as I'm not sure what would be going wrong. Did you manage to get the Catalina version (latest Wineskin) up and running? Is your Discord version up to date? Are there any other applications using the Rich Presence feature (like Spotify) you might be able to quit? What about restarting your computer?

If you're using another Wineskin you might be able to copy the execute.bat and bridge.exe files from the Catalina Wineskin and see if that works.
1st question: Discord is up-to-date.
2nd question: Yes, I was able to get the Catalina version to work and running.
3rd question: Spotify wasn't opened when I did it.
4th question: Still didn't help.
5th question: What do you mean by "copy the execute.bat and bridge.exe files from the Catalina Wineskin"?

If you open the osu! folder in the Catalina Wineskin (right click osu! > Show Package Contents > drive_c > osu!), the execute.bat and bridge.exe files should be in there. You can copy those files into your existing Wineskin (if you have one) in case they weren't made correctly. If the Catalina version didn't make Discord Rich Presence work though, I don't think this would be of much help. Sorry, I don't really have any other steps to suggest as it seems to be working for other people (someone I helped managed to get it working two days ago).
After reading this, I decided to just reinstall the Catalina version to see if that would do anything, and it seemed it did, thanks for helping anyways. [make sure to use the Latest Wineskin and not experimental], also yes if as what I just said wasn't clear, Discord Rich Presence works now.

I also have another question now, Technocoder: How come we now have to use the osu!macOS agent to move songs &. skins automatically instead of clicking it and let it import? Is it a wineskin problem or a import problem? I'm fairly interested.

It's a macOS permissions problem. From the WineskinServer repository (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/issues/26#issue-551841130): However keeping SIP enabled will block access multiple user directory’s if permission isn’t granted.

Most people don't have SIP (System Integrity Protection) disabled on the newer versions of macOS so the best alternative is to get osu!macOS Agent to move the files into Wineskin itself. I encountered this problem when I tried to open replays from the macOS Downloads directory (it just couldn't access them).

Alright, but another question is: How do you fix the weird font on like the ranking and stuff? As when I open osu! and I look at the main menu, I can see that my rank has some weird bigger numbers than usual, is there a way to fix that as it kinda is buggin' me.

Can you post a screenshot of what it looks like?... Give the default skin a try as well in case it's a skin issue.

Alright, let me go get the screenshot to show you. Sorry if I'm taking quite some time to respond, osu! doesn't give me notifications when someone replies to me in a forum.
osu! on macOS:

osu! on Windows:

Now they are both a slight tiny difference, but it is visible that, they are different. And I can see it has changed a bit as the old osu! version (Mojave and older) had much worse bumpy text, but it is still visible in this version.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Question 3] I have another question, how come osu! takes a while to open on macOS? On Windows it seems to load a lot faster, why is that? Also here is the video of me opening it, it seems to take 15 seconds. -> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/695430418492555314/765892108208177162/osu_-_takes_a_while.mov

[Question 4] Should we re-download osu! weekly or monthly because you might update it and some of us wants to stay uo-to-date on our osu!version.

Sorry, whenever I try to download beatmaps in any way like by dragging the files into Osu's package contents or allowing them to be downloaded in automatically, it never works and a notification pops up saying that there is no windows configuration for this wineskin to work? The actual game does work, I just can't download any beat maps for some reason. Help?

If you go back to the forum, there are instructions there on how to import beatmaps. But if you don't wanna go back, let me just tell you how to fix your error below
VVVV
Step 1. Keep the osu!macOS Agent open in the background.
Step 2. Download a osu! map.
Step 3. Once finished downloading, the Agent should automatically put the song in your songs folder for you.
Step 4. Go back into osu!
Step 5. Press F5 in-game and the song should import.

Gave it a look on my end and wow, you're right, it is bigger!

I'm not sure what the cause of this is. I *suspect* it's a fonts issue where one of the fonts on macOS is different from Windows or it's defaulting to some fallback font in case it's non existent but without more information on how the game works I don't think I can fix it.

There are two main reasons for this. First, for osu! to run, Wine needs to create its own process (called the preloader, you may see this appear in Discord for people who don't have Rich Presence) and then this process needs to initialise and open osu!. This two stage load means that it takes significantly more time to open an application initially.

The second reason is due to how the Discord Rich Presence works. The bridge.exe file has to start before osu! so it can capture the presence protocol which is why you see that black terminal window pop up. It takes time to open of course and osu! can't start without it finishing first.

The Wineskin or the osu! game itself? The game should automatically update itself.
As for the Wineskin, I rarely update it. Every month or even two months should be more than fine. If I do update it I add a note in the "Latest Wineskin changes" section.

Thanks for answering my questions, I'll end my questions forum hopefully here. And once again, thanks for responding. Now here are my responses to your answers.

Answer 1: Aw, I guess that is too bad. I mean, it doesn't affect the game a whole lot, but it does get annoying when you see the difference between the two operating systems.

Answer 2: Oh, that's why.

Answer 3: I was talking about the Wineskin, and oh okay, I guess that is a good way of saying when it was last updated and what changed.

hi everyone, I hope it's alright if I put this here.

I've set up a website where I've written some documentation on how to install either Techno's and slc's wineskin on macOS, as well as addressing common issues and questions.

Hopefully it provides a more comprehensive and user-friendly interface for people to get osu! running on their mac by themselves. The documentation on the osu! knowledge base is quite outdated, and it's definitely hard to dig through forum threads and things like that, and I wanted to make it really easy to follow with lots of detail.

You can find the site live here: https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io

the docs are open-source so you can contribute on GitHub: https://github.com/aidswidjaja/osu-mac

Feel free to open a GitHub issue if you would like to add anything

docs are still in beta so if there's anything I need to fix, do, any questions/enquiries too, please open a GitHub issue at https://github.com/aidswidjaja/osu-mac which is the easiest way I can get back to you. Alternatively you can PM me on osu! or DM me on Discord (aidswidjaja#2805) but I won't be checking the forums too much since I'm a pretty busy boi

Otherwise, I hope this helps some people and makes the osu!mac onboarding experience easier. I'm also new to the forums so please let me know if I need to change anything or if this is the wrong place for this.

thanks a lot!

Wow, nice job! I saw that you had starred my tool and made this repository a while ago but I wasn't sure what you were planning on doing with it. This is fantastic!

Regarding importing beatmaps and skins (https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/welcome/import.html), I still recommend using osu!macOS Agent to do this as it will automatically handle things like extraction and alphanumeric characters. I don't know if you plan on having a section for this.

Regarding transferring data from another Wineskin (https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/welcome/transfer.html), I think it should be made clear that transferring just the Skins and Songs folder will not transfer your scores and replays over (that requires the scores.db and Replays folder and probably some other files?) which I learnt the hard way (rip 2017 replays).

Regarding compatibility mode, macOS Agent will also disable it as part of its troubleshooting sequence. Are you sure it's called "osu!fallback"? I've only ever seen that term used for the Stable Fallback versison of osu!.

Regarding the startup issues with Catalina, these are only present in my experimental Catalina version as the execute.bat file exists as part of Discord Rich Presence now.

Regarding Discord Rich Presence, it's not just that I converted the system calls to 64 bit. The system calls in the original repository are for Linux, not macOS which is why you won't find it working by default. Great job on figuring out that it can't run on 32 bit Wine! That's explained why no one seems to be able to get Rich Presence on any of the older Wineskins.

(Small nitpick: I think it'd be better to expand out contractions like "rn" and "ofc")
(Looks like there's some minor markdown formatting issues in the Acknowledgements page)

Thanks for your great feedback!

osu!macOS Agent imports: totally dropped the ball on that one and I think somewhere sometime in someplace I did mention that but I must have forgotten to put it in the actual Importing section - will do

Transferring data: ah yes forgot about scores and Replays - thanks for letting me know and I'll add that into the import section as well.

Compatibility mode: oops yup, Compatibility Mode just translates DirectX to OpenGL while stable fallback is an entirely different build altogether I believe

Catalina startup issues: yep thanks for letting me know - I use slc's Wineskin which means I've been able to remove the no-splash flag

Discord RPC: ahhh I see - that would very much explain it. I would have hoped that Linux and macOS namespaces were the same but that makes more sense.

Contractions: I'll take a look over that when I have time since that's a good point and idk why I did that lol

Acknowledgements formatting: will fix!

And I'll take a look at your PR on GitHub too

Osu! now works on my Mac, but when I want to import a skin, it directs me to the Agent app and it won't let me import it. The same goes for the beatmaps. Any other solutions rather than the Agent app?

I also heard that you can import it manually, but how can I do that?

Please let me know from both of them!

if I recall correctly, osu!macOS Agent should automatically move beatmaps and skins from your Downloads folder to your Songs folder in osu! if you have the option enabled.

Otherwise, you can import manually by moving your skin to the Skins folder in your Wineskin. The path for this is osu!.app/drive_c/osu!/Skins then refresh in osu! using Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S

Can you clarify what you mean by "directing" you to the Agent app? When you move or download the skin file into the Downloads folder it should automatically remove it and put it in the osu! folder.

The steps for importing manually are in the original post... Is there something wrong with them?

What should happen is:
You leave the osu!macOS agent open in the background to import beatmaps and skins.
If you are importing beatmaps, you only need to press FN + F5 in-game to load in the map.
For skins, you wanna press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S to reload skins and use the skin.
This was clearly stated in the steps page of the forum.

Technocoder, why does when I use my bluetooth headphones on osu!macOS, the hitsounds have a BIGGGGG delay? Literally everything else was on time and fine, including my other programs, accept for the osu! hitsounds. How do you fix this?

Make sure to follow the steps below.

Okay so. Make sure you downloaded the latest osu!catalina wineskin.
Now once you did that, extract the file to your desktop.
Once you did that, open the osu!macOS agent and choose the osu! app you put on your desktop.
Once selected, click "OK" and go to the troubleshoot tab and click "Scan"
Once finished scanning, click "Repair"
After repaired, go to the "Update" tab.
Click the "Update" button on the agent.
Once finished updating, right click osu! and click "Open"
And hopefully it'll oepn.

Thank you, as you can tell by me being able to post again (first time was a glitch) i verified myself by playing a map! might make a video guide.

You're welcome! I'm willing to help anyone that needs help running osu! on macOS, (only for the agent), and also that will be very helpful of you to make a video guide, thank you.

Sorry, I'm not sure why this would happen. Are you sure there isn't a delay in your bluetooth headphones? It might be easier to tell with the hitsounds.

Technocoder Question
Sorry, I'm not sure why this would happen. Are you sure there isn't a delay in your bluetooth headphones? It might be easier to tell with the hitsounds.

Yes, I checked, I don't have any delay on my headphones, listening to audio, being in calls with my Discord friends, playing games such as Minecraft or Kerbal Space Program, they all don't have that much delay (like 5ms) unlike osu! where the hitsounds are delayed by 100+ ms. This is a problem for me because there is no way I'm gonna decide to use the speakers on my MacBook to play osu!, just no. Also, if you wanna continue this conversation faster, you can friend me on Discord "Darkn#3538"

You do know that the osu!catalina wineskin works on older versions too right? It works on macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and older versions. So yeah, download the latest wineskin from this forum.

Quick Question #2

How come when I use the latest wineskin on macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), I get around 400+ FPS during intense gameplay but on macOS Mojave (10.14.6), I get around 150+ FPS during intense gameplay? How come macOS Mojave gets more lag? That is the main question.

Quick Question #3

How come once I turned off crutil, I still can't make the osu! maps and skins automatically move by itself without using the agent?

Are you sure you selected the osu!catalina application and click "Scan" and repaired anything broken on it? if not, it won't open.

Reading the report, it seems everything is fine, have you tried right clicking osu! and clicking open on it? Also if you want support 24/7, you can friend me on discord, "Darkn#3538", I'm on EST time so for me: 12 - 10 PM.

Oblivious and raiqo, idk if this has already been mentioned or if you're working through it over Discord (and sorry I'm a bit late response since I've got exams :/) but maybe it could be a good idea to do a Wineskin test run.

This would give you logs that could help you further diagnose the issue (those should be separate from update.log and runtime.log tho that macOS Agent is picking up)

Also would double check screen options and trying playing around with those since the Wineserver might be running fine, but the graphics aren't lining up

Hope this helps and let us know if you've figured it out/still need some help

Technocoder, Discord Rich Presence STILL doesn't work, even despite me doing:

OMG thank you so much Technocoder and Oblivous for helping me out, finally i reinstalled osu! with the catalina version on mi High Sierra, it works fine and F I N A L L Y discord rich presence works
aidswidjaja
Discord rich presence only works on the newer wineskins, because of compatibility issues and the like

So if you need discord rpc, downloading the Catalina wineskins is the way to go.

Leaving this here for other people's future reference

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are trying to say- Wait nevermind.

Okay to answer your first question: No we haven't been talking through Discord. Actually, Technocoder has been offline for the past weeks if you look at his profile.

And to answer your second question. You sadly can't use the Wineskin.app on osu!catalina. Because if you are running Catalina, it won't work. Like it literally just doesn't open. So doing test runs are NOT POSSIBLE on Catalina.

Maybe we need to make a Wineskin for Wineskin :D

In all seriousness though, if Wineskin.app is not possible on catalina, that's going to be hella annoying moving into the future. So maybe someone should compile a Catalina binary and push it upstream: https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer or even just keep it here for us to use

I'll look into it, but I have exams on now, and considering Techno's in NZ he might have that too, but idk.

What model of Mac do you have? I wouldn't count on it but if it's incredibly old it *might* be 32-bit. Otherwise, there might be something wrong with the quarantine attribute again (please try typing `xattr` in Terminal and see what you get).

> Quick Question #3
Automatic movement of maps and skins is functionality provided by osu!macOS Agent. If you don't use it then you need to manually drag it into the osu! game window. Sorry, I don't have the answer to your other questions.

Guys Ive done everything and still cant get osu to run. It keeps saying its damaged and cant run because host is no longer supported or something along those lines. As stupid as this sounds, im about to give up. Agent tool, everytime I scanned it literally closed itself. Ive tried making folders with the bridge stuff and update wineskin and still no results. Its pretty much a dead icon for me at this point

Please paste the full, exact, error message (or preferably a screenshot). Please describe your macOS version and Mac model (preferably year of manufacture).

If you can't get the agent to run directly please try the following steps:
  1. Move the agent to the Desktop
  2. Open Terminal
  3. Type in (including quotes):
    './Desktop/osu!macOS Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/osu!macOS Agent'
  4. Paste the output from that command here. You should get an error message.

What macOS version are you currently using? I'm not sure if this works on any older version of macOS High Sierra.

Also you can also try downloading the alternative wineskin if you are on macOS Mojave or older, because that works aswell.

And if the agent tool has been closing as well, then this must has to do something with how old your computer is, what operating system it is, or what computer is it overall.

Please also try Technocoders response to see if that helps.

'./Desktop/osu!macOS Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/osu!macOS Agent'

Paste the output from that command here. You should get an error message.
Once you have retrieved the error message, please copy and paste it here. If it's particularly long, you can use something like Pastebin.

This will help people on the forums diagnose the issue. Let us know if you need help with anything else, and best of luck!

And if the agent tool has been closing as well, then this must has to do something with how old your computer is, what operating system it is, or what computer is it overall.

It certainly is weird that the Agent is crashing too, but I'm not too familiar with the processes it runs, so it could just be crashing because of the Wineskin and not necessarily the computer's OS/hardware/etc. That's the hope at least, since if it *is* to do with the computer itself, then that's going to be more annoying to troubleshoot :/
PneumaVoid
After moving the agent to desktop, opening terminal and typing in the command; the agent is opened. No error messages are displayed in the terminal nor in the agent.

Oh my bad, I thought those instructions were for the Wineskin.

To those who are experiencing issues with the actual Wineskin (but can't repair it through Agent), please run a **Test Run** of the Wineskin so we can help identify the issues.

Please open Wineskin.app inside your osu!.app wrapper, click on Advanced, then click on Test Run.

If everything crashes, when the "Success" dialog box appears please click **Yes**

Then two files will appear. Please copy and paste both of them to something like pastebin or paste.ubuntu.com so that we can see the logs.

I tried to open the Wineskin in the Osu! app, however I got the following message:

To clarify, this refers to Wineskin.app?

I suspect you have a corrupted installation. Have you tried redownloading the wrapper/trying the alternative wrapper from slc (this only works on Mojave and below though) and seeing if that works?

If that doesn't work, could you please try running the following Terminal command, quitting osu! (if it does actually open) and then copying and pasting the Terminal output into a pastebin for us to analyse?

'/Users/Adrian/Desktop/osu\!.app/Contents/MacOS/WineskinLauncher'
where /Users/Adrian/Desktop is obviously the path to your osu!.app executable.

*Note that things might run a bit weirdly (it did for me) since you're directly bypassing Wineskin.app - we're just trying to nail down and see if there's anything that's useful for us to fix the issues you're encountering

Some of the others might have some other ideas too. Let us know how it turns out.
PneumaVoid
I reinstalled the wrapper when I first ran into the problem and that didn't seem to fix it. And I'm referring to the Wineskin application when viewing the package contents of the osu! app.

Well, after running the WineskinLauncher I got the following:

Running /usr/sbin/system_profiler at path / with flags -xml -detailLevel full SPDisplaysDataType
Instruction finished
logout
Saving session...
...copying shared history...
...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.

[Process completed]

This seems more like a saving system than an error, however you would know better than me.
aidswidjaja
oh I should have asked this beforehand, did you run the troubleshooter on the Wineskin.app beforehand?

Technocoder stated above that the Wineskin app won't open under Catalina until a repair is performed. See community/forums/posts/7749200

With respect to
Saving session...
...copying shared history...
...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.
this is just part of the bash session on macOS.

Anyway regardless, technically no errors are showing up in your terminal. I was hoping it would have given us an idea to what was going on. I would also check the osu logs in drive_c/osu!/Logs and the Wineskin logs in Contents/Resources/Logs just to be sure, but I don't think that would show anything of interest

I might actually point this to Oblivious or Technocoder about this - it's quite strange that your Wineskin isn't loading and giving that one weird error message. (Btw, that batch file doesn't exist in the source code for the open-source Wineskin server, so could it be some dependency?)

If I have more ideas later I will come back and edit this post

Alright, I solved the problem. What was happening was that my antivirus was removing files that it thought was dangerous without telling me. Also, it seems that the default unzipping software on mac (forgot it's name) was not unzipping some files properly - so I used The Unarchiver instead.

Thanks for your help, and I hope this helps someone else.

Hi,
I had an older version of osu on my mac and it worked fine but discord rich presence didn't work. So I downloaded and installed osu!macOS Agent and osu and it works. On the precedent version i could double click the file of the beatmap to open osu and import the beatmap, now if i try to do that with the other version an error message appears. It's a wine error message, it says "Error There is no Windows program configured to open this type of file". Is there a way to make it work or it's just a problem of the new version?

i moved the agent to my desktop then put the command into terminal and got this

(terminal output: community/forums/posts/7756162)

With respect to the Wineskin:

Could you please perform the following
  1. Locate your osu!.app Wineskin
  2. Right click, then press Show Package Contents
  3. Click Advanced, then click Test Run
  4. If osu! starts, close it. Otherwise, let the process run and then click Yes on the error message that appears.
  5. Please copy and paste the output of the two logs here or into a pastebin (such as https://paste.ubuntu.com)
With respect to the Agent:

From a quick google search this appears to be the result of overlapping/conflicting libraries/frameworks/dependencies? https://stackoverflow.com/a/30582486/6299634

I had a look on my computer and tried to check whether both referenced directories are also present on my computer, and they are. However, do you happen to do any development work? That could explain the issue.

I might need to leave this one to Technocoder, since he designed the program and generally speaking I'm not that familiar with objc or c#.

While the Agent is a handy tool, it is not needed in order to run the Wineskin. There are terminal commands that can substitute it. Though obviously if we can, it would be nice to troubleshoot this too.

Please try the following

1. Download a random osu beatmap (and get the osz file)
2. Right click on osu!.app
3. Click Show Package Contents
4. Navigate to drive_c/osu!/Songs and drag & drop your osz beatmap into there
4. Go back a few folders until you reach Wineskin.app, open it!
5. Click [Advanced]. You should see a screen like the one below

Note the Associated Extensions section. If the osz2, osr, osz and osu extensions aren't there, add them using the + button.

To verify your changes:

6. Click Tools, then click Command Line (cmd). A console-like should open (it takes a while tho)
7. Type explorer.exe
8. Navigate to My Computer\osu!\Songs and locate the osz beatmap you just dropped
9. Right click on the file, click Properties and verify it worked. It should look like the image below.

Maybe it would work but you would need to update the wineskin to 64-bit in order for it to even run on Catalina & Big Sur.

I found that slc's Wineskin is way more stable on my computer, but I'm packing up and moving everything to Techno's Catalina+ Wineskin since it has compatibility with Big Sur which I might upgrade to later.

Yea Discord RPC doesn't work on older Wineskins unfortunately.

If your game runs, and you're only experiencing issues with Wineskin.app, you could maybe try and copy and paste the old Wineskin.app to the new one? I have no idea whether this would work, and it's entirely based on the assumption that Wineskin.app is portable and doesn't have any wrapper-specific dependencies...

Actually, if I uploaded my Wineskin.app (that is working under Techno's Catalina wineskin) would that work?

That doesn't seem right. Have you executed osu! before - fetch the latest executable with osu!macOS Agent (in the Other tab) and then run it to update osu (or in this case, start osu! for the first time)

I've updated to Big Sur. It could just be the post-upgrade jitters but anyone getting frame drops while playing?

That error message appears when the Wineskin still has the quarantine attribute attached to it (or if the execute flag is missing). Have you ran the agent on the osu! application? (apologies if I've missed it, I can't seem to find it).

Probably not an issue with the upgrade. The latest Wineskin (reportedly) seems to have a lot more frame drops than the older version (probably something to do with the bit architecture translation shenanigans so I'm waiting on an updated engine).

Frames are a bit better now that I've settled into Big Sur. The last compiled was Jan but there's commits on the Git repo going back to August so if it proves a big issue we could try compiling ourselves, but I think at this stage it isn't too necessary.

Hello, osu! doesn't seem to run. It was also lagging and freezing a lot yesterday. I could still open it after quitting the app, though. However, when I tried to open it today, it went back on updating and never opened. My mac is still on Mojave. Troubleshoot report is as follows:

And also, I'm planning to update my mac to Big Sur. Can I still play it on that OS? If so, will I have to re-do the installation steps?

Thank you so much!

Hard to tell what's going on with just that information. Whether there's a "fix" depends on what Wineskin your using, your macOS version etc :P. Please paste the report from macOS Agent.

Open macOS Agent and click on Other and then click on Update osu! which should manually update osu! for you.
You can play on Big Sur with your existing (latest) Wineskin but performance is a bit iffy (apparently) at the moment. You shouldn't have to redo any steps (should work just fine as is).

I'm using Big Sur right now. Performance for me is the same as Mojave (I skipped Catalina) but your mileage may vary.

But osu! is definitely still playable - though you might have to tune your settings

Though obviously if we can, it would be nice to troubleshoot this too.
so i launched osu! through the wineskin and it opened, it was working fine and all my maps and skins were there. i then closed it and the thing popped up so i clicked yes and got this: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/K8XxgNzqc4/
i tried launching osu normally but it still tells me that its damaged. do i just use the wineskin to launch from now on or is there someway to fix the problem? i've also considered updating to Big Sur (i'm currently running Mojave 10.14.6) would that help solve the problem?
edit: just tried launching it again from the test run and it lets me log in but i cant use any skins and when i try to play maps the game crashes

If the sudo command isn't finding the file it almost always means that you haven't typed the filepath right. Make sure you're doing all the steps below!

Also please indicate which Wineskin you're using - slc or techno. thanks!

Yeah so, I downloaded the new osu with Wineskin like 2/3 weeks ago, i changed from the old osu to the new one (the catalina one) because with this i can get to work discord rich presence. The old version is most likely to work but the discord rich presence won't work :/
Did you get your Wineskin.app to work? If I have time I will try and upload my Wineskin.app to Google Drive and see if giving you just that file will work.

PoofSoulslimm
I have unofficial wineskin so I'll try that

It should work but just make sure you enabled the right Winetricks :) I'm not too sure how the osu!fallback client works but generally speaking it should be fine.

Updating to Big Sur won't really fix your problem unfortunately. If the test run is giving you different results to the actual executable, try repairing the exe through agent again or alternatively running this command:

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine "~/path/to/my/osu\!.app"

Can you also make sure that your Skins and Songs folders in drive_c/osu! aren't corrupted or anything. It *is* pretty weird how your install is behaving and somewhat corrupted... You're getting a lot of errors, such as these

0098:fixme:path:parse_url failed to parse L"osu!ui"
0098:fixme:path:parse_url failed to parse L"osu!ui.resources"

If you haven't already, I'd try reinstalling just to be sure and to isolate that issue. Also you could try to go to Wineskin.app > Advanced > Tools > and under Wrapper Tools click Refresh Wrapper (do NOT click Rebuild as this will delete everything including your Songs, scores, etc, unless you have them backed up - if they're backed up you could try that as well) - BE CAREFUL ABOUT DOING THIS (I may have done it to myself and now my osu! won't update :/ - maybe make a backup first

Also are the logs the same on your second test run (when the skins don't load, maps crash the game etc) ?

It's some pretty weird stuff, keep us informed and try the stuff above :)

AmAWolf

Will upload to Google Drive now, and I'll provide instructions + download link by editing this post once its done :D See below, let me know if there are any problems

Also yea, if Agent isn't returning anything weird then there won't be any useful debugging info there for us to find.

The report is showing errors with respect to updating the osu! application. Could you try updating from osu!macOS Agent:

  1. Open osu!macOS Agent
  2. Click the Other tab
  3. Click Update osu!
Alternatively download the executable binary directly from home/download and replace it within your application

  1. Download osu.exe from osu.ppy.sh/home/download.
  2. Locate where osu!.app (your Wineskin) is installed
  3. Right click on it and select Show Package Contents
  4. You should now see three files/folders: Contents, drive_c and Wineskin. Click drive_c.
  5. From here, click osu!.
  6. From here, locate osu!.exe and replace this file with the updated version that you just downloaded. Make sure you keep the filename the same.

Oblivous wrote:

Not much happening, just trying to debug different issues :)

Wineskin.app replacement

If you are experiencing issues with Wineskin.app, you can try downloading it separately.

Instructions: https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/issues/wineskin.html#resolution

Download link: https://minhaskamal.github.io/DownGit/#/home?url=https://github.com/aidswidjaja/osu-mac/tree/main/src/wineskin or https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Gz5Y0M4WoMxTTwb5aHUccebO5AlVm3SN?usp=sharing
  1. Click the Download Link above
  2. If using Google Drive, click DOWNLOAD ALL in the top-right corner of the screen
  3. It will download this as a zip file. Extract the zip file until you just have the Wineskin.app file
  4. Inside osu!.app (Right click > Show Package Contents) locate Wineskin.app - make a backup of it (you can just rename it to say something like Wineskin.app.backup if you want)
  5. Move the new version of Wineskin.app from Google Drive into osu!.app
  6. Try and open it and see if everything works out.
Please be advised if that this hasn't been tested and that distributing the Wineskin.app file on its own is completely experimental so it might not fix your issues. But definitely let me know if there are any problems with it :)

  3. Click Advanced, then click Test Run
  4. If osu! starts, close it. Otherwise, let the process run and then click Yes on the error message that appears.
  5. Please copy and paste the output of the two logs here or into a pastebin (such as https://paste.ubuntu.com)
Also ensure antivirus/other apps aren't interfering with osu. It might be helpful to check Activity Monitor to see if the osu! process is running, manages to starts (but then dies) or doesn't start at all.

Even if i keep on running the osu! macos agent, skins nor beatmaps automatically import from Downloads. I have made sure they are checked in the settings in the app.

It works to manually add skins and beatmaps, but it takes ages.
Could someone please help?

wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\start.exe"

For some reason Wine is looking for a start.exe file.

Please make sure two things are correct:

1. That your Wineskin Advanced menu looks like this. It's on the Configuration tab of the Wineskin app that we used earlier to perform the test run.

Make sure that Windows EXE field says:

"C:\osu!\execute.bat"

2. Ensure that you have a file named execute.bat in drive_c/osu!/execute.bat

Make sure it contains the following

start C:\osu!\bridge.exe
start C:\osu!\osu!.exe

Once you have done that, try doing the Test Run again. If all works good, then good to go, otherwise copy and paste the contents of the new log file.

Technocoder might want to take a look at this since he was the one who wrote the program - however in my experience with the new Wineskin you can drag and drop files into osu! (at least from Firefox) as long as you have that configured correctly. You might also be able to double click on the osz file to open it with osu.

But the auto-move to Downloads works for me with osu!macOS Agent running in the background. Make sure that you have selected the right osu!.app filepath in Agent. If any issues feel free to point them out here but Techno's been busy recently and he's in the best position to help you unfortunately

The right osu!.app is definitely selected. I dont know how to drag and drop into osu, as it's fullscreen for me.
Would there be a way to configure a windows program to open a .osz or .osk file?
(that's the error I get when I try to open a file in osu!)

I don't know much about this but I don't know what you mean about start C:\osu!\bridge.exe and start C:\osu!\osu!.exe being in execute.bat. I can see three papers named execute.bat, bridge.exe, and osu!.exe

Could you make sure that

1. You unzip the file using The Unarchiver instead of the default Archive Utility on macOS. I think someone else said that it caused problems.

2. Make sure there are no antivirus software interfering with your installation

(community/forums/posts/7756236)

You might need to reinstall it afterwards. You can also try installing Wineskin.app manually (community/forums/posts/7793479) but I doubt that would work if your install is corrupted.

So basically, execute.bat is a text file which should contain two lines.
You also want to make sure that Wineskin.app points to this file in the Windows EXE field.
And you mentioned that you could only see execute.bat, bridge.exe, and osu!.exe in your osu! folder? For reference this is what my folder setup looks like.
If there are only three files there, it could be possible that an antivirus is removing your dll files or something. So just make sure that you've also followed the guidelines I sent to oblicue above which you can follow if the first guidelines I gave you don't work.

Hope this helps everyone :)

I reinstalled, but the wineskin still didn't work, then I installed Wineskin.app manually. That seems to have worked, and I have opened it. I don't have an antivirus and definitely used The Unarchiver. I followed the steps to configure a windows program to open a file (which the properties look like they've worked) , but when I open a .osz or .osk file, I get the same error.
