Here is the report from the osu I downloaded a week ago (it worked even on Catalina and without SIP disabled somehow but now obviously it won't reopen)

Can you right click osu! > Show Package Contents > Wineskin > Advanced and then click Test Run. When it's done, there should be two text files that appear on the screen. Copy and paste the contents of those text files here.

I really doubt that the Wacom tablet software would have an effect on osu! opening. If you want to see if it's the cause of the issue open Activity Monitor, search "Wacom" and then force quit (click the stop button at the top left) all of the processes with Wacom in the name.

Edit: I just noticed that the update.log generated successfully which should not have happened if osu! couldn't open. Right click osu! > Show Package Contents > drive_c > osu! > Logs and paste the contents of update.log and runtime.log here.

Please paste the logs from the Wineskin Test Run as well (and try force quitting Wacom to see if that helps). It'd be best to put the logs in a spoiler tag so they don't take up so much space. The updater seems to be working fine so I'm not sure why osu! itself isn't opening.

Ive also quit Wacom. hopefully you can see a solvable issue? also to note: once I accidentally double clicked the application to open instead of right clicking to open and I heard that could cause issues? not sure.

Everything seems to look fine. Right clicking osu! and then pressing open should work even if you've double clicked it. It'd be best if you can record a video of what's happening when you open osu!.

When you say that something appeared from the Wineskin for about 10 seconds, are you sure that's not the osu! updater? Just in case, open up my troubleshooter and then click on Other and then click on Update osu! and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work try downloading the Catalina Wineskin again (and make sure not to transfer any files over) and then run my troubleshooter on it and then see if that works.

Yes I believe it is the wineskin updater that pops up. I tried the update button in your trouble shooter but nothing happened. I tried downloading again and the same thing happens (what exactly do you mean by "transfer any files over"?).
another thing to note is that I have been using Keka to extract the zip files cause when I use the default Mac archive utility it just says the download is damages and needs to be moved to the trash.
I could definitely upload a video of what's happening but im not sure how (sorry im new to using this forum!) if you could tell me how that would be great!

The archive tool I prefer to use is The Unarchiver which can be found in the macOS App Store but the one used shouldn't matter. You can take a video using QuickTime Player by pressing File and then New Screen Recording. If you already have the file, it's probably best to upload it to YouTube (I'm not aware of any way to upload to the forums directly).

One thing to check is that when you open osu! open Activity Monitor and search for wine and see if there are any processes containing Wine in the name. Let me know if it appears briefly and then goes away or if it stays there. If there are processes with those names try force quitting all of them and then opening osu! again.

Hi Technocoder, i've been trying to download osu on my mac but i've been running into trouble. i had just updated to mac catalina and osu stopped running. i did all the steps you said to do (including disabling SIP) but i'm currently stuck at the terminal where if i type in the command

sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine 'osu!.app'

it comes up with

xattr: No such file: osu!.app

how do i fix this? and can you please go into detail. ALSO it would be greatly appreciated if you could contact me at my instagram acc @eye_blech but if you cant its fine. thanks so much and like all the stuff you do is SUPER cool.

Please clarify what you mean by "having issues". There are two ways to go about installing skins and beatmaps.
1. Use osu!macOS Agent
If you enable the "Automatically move" options for the skins and beatmaps, when you download a skin or beatmap they will be automatically moved into the Skins or Songs folder. Then, to load new beatmaps just press F5 while you're in game.
2. Manually

Hello , i've been trying to make osu work by reading the whole thread but im still getting crashes ...I followed all the steps from your guide, disabled SIP and used that sudo command.
I ran the troubleshooter and it doesnt detect any error ?
I redownloaded the wswine.bundle thingy as well and nothing changed.

The only issue that I've found similar to what you have is this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/bny93r/cant_install_game_anymore/.

Can you open up Font Book (open spotlight and search for Font Book) and then see if there's any font with the name of Aller or Aller Light and then right click it and click "Remove" (or if that option is greyed out, click "Disable").

Hello, I need a little bit help with osu!. I recently reinstalled (Very important as i believe it has affected my issue). Osu!.The last time i played osu was last year on a mac.I remember it worked completely fine and i didn't update my mac.Now when i boot up the game, it doesn't even open or show any signs of opening up.After digging through the files and navigating to Osu!.exe. I opened it and it showed the osu! updater.The osu updater attempts to update to net framework 4.0 but soons fails.What do i do?

If you're using my 2018 Wineskin try using slc's (community/forums/posts/6919344) or peppy's (community/forums/posts/7140911) instead. You'l need to run my troubleshooter on them to get them to open: community/forums/topics/1036678. If you're still having issues after that, paste the report here.

The best option is to probably whitelist or temporarily disable the file shield to unzip it. The Wineskin does not contain any viruses.

I'm a completely new player, and had no issues with installing osu!, I only needed to download the troubleshooter. It works great. Appreciate the hard work and hours you spent creating this. <3

EDIT: Hey, when i try to add beatmaps, it says 'please do not try to add beatmaps manually.' Any idea how to fix, or am i stuck with this these songs?

Is this a message you're seeing in game? How are you adding your beatmaps to osu!? The method that I've always found worked best is to drag the beatmap file into the Songs folder and then press F5 while you're in game to load the new beatmaps.

Thanks for all the work you've put in for the Mac users!

I've been using your build for the past year, it's been smooth sailing until around a week ago. Just some sudden frame drops, typically during the beginning of songs and after pass/fail screens.


I was able to mitigate this by turning off fullscreen mode, and changing my frame limiter to unlimited.

Could I ask if this is a certain settings choice that works better for Mac, and if you have any other suggestions to reduce dropped frames?

When i open osu everything seems to be running fine except for a bit of fps drops and the worst problem of all would be the weird and distorted music instead of normal sounds a distorted version is played, any way to fix this?

go to option, audio and click audio compatibility mode. whenever u open osu another day, its gonna be distorted so just disable and enable it every time u open osu.

Turning off fullscreen mode is something I typically recommend as it makes window switching easier. Changing the frame limiter to unlimited isn't something that I would expect helps frame drops but if it works for you then it doesn't really matter.

If you were getting frame drops after pass/fail screens then changing your skin to something less graphically intensive may be an option.

You need to move the osu! application to the Desktop and ensure that you've ran the command: cd Desktop. Alternatively, run my troubleshooter: community/forums/topics/1036678

After extraction follow the steps under osu! or Wineskin will not open! from my guide. Ignore any "Operation not permitted" errors.

For the moment, System Integrity Protection must also be disabled. You can check if it is enabled:

  2. Type csrutil status and press enter
  3. Check if it says it is enabled

This build augments Peppy's (@peppy) July 2019 build with the newer Crossover 19.0.1 build designed to run on macOS Catalina from the Unofficial Wineskin releases: https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/releases/tag/V1.8.4
The (extracted) application size has increased to 2.56 gigabytes which suggests that it may be more space efficient to rebuild the Wineskin from scratch.
the method is working but some minor issues, like compatibility mode is not working. but overall, it runs smoothly, sometimes it buffers and idk why.

my osu is fine on everything except when the game is on fullscreen and i cant switch desktop to desktop with the gesture on the trackpad, so i have to turn off fullscreen manually on the settings. which is difficult to download maps while your in a multiplayer lobby and keep everyone waiting because of it. can someone help me here?

Extract the beatmap pack file and then move all of the beatmaps into the Songs folder. Then press F5 while you're in game.

You can use the alt+tab hotkey to switch between windows (such as your browser). Alternatively, keep fullscreen mode off.

I'm currently running osu! on mac OS Catalina, and the game works just fine after I disabled the SIP. But for some reasons, I'm unable to import any of the beatmaps or skins into the game after downloading them. I removed all of the non-alphabetical characters in the .osz file. When I tried to import them again, the system just shows "There is no Windows program configured to open this type of file" even when I tried to open it with osu!. Are there any ways to fix this problem?

You cannot drag the beatmap directly onto the osu! icon. The easiest way to import them is to keep the Songs folder open (Show Package Contents > drive_c > osu! > Songs) and then drag the beatmap in directly. Then press F5 while you're ingame to reload. Alternatively, my agent: community/forums/topics/1036678 has a feature which automatically drags in downloaded beatmaps for you. Or, you can drag the beatmap onto the window (but this is a bit more difficult).

Hi everyone! I've found a way to get the game to run on Catalina (10.15.x) without needing SIP disabled! This is how you do it:

Hi there! I was intrigued by your method of getting it to launch without SIP so I looked into it a bit more. First of all I was a little bit skeptical (sorry about that!) because of the reason behind requiring SIP to be disabled. The latest 64 bit Wineskins rely on a function: i386_set_ldt which is only available for use of it's disabled or if the no32exec boot argument is set... or so I thought. It turns out on Catalina 10.15.4 onwards this function can be used regardless of whether SIP is disabled or not (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/issues/26).
So unfortunately I can't test whether your method works prior to 10.15.4 (and I suspect that it doesn't) but thanks for your post anyway! It seems that I can update the Wineskin and move it out of the experimental phase now.
